Great film with great music! I miss Coastal Cali. Spent many happy days cruising up and down this road over the last 5 or 6 years. Don't get roads as good as this in the UK.
I've been to the East Coast, but not for some time. I am due out to East Coast US in September for a road trip with members of the Z club. Looking forward to good American motoring!
@funkysi79 I lived in California until 1999 and now live in New Jersey...I also miss those three hour ocean view drives back and forth between my hometown somewhere in Santa Barbara County and Los Angeles.
@NHRHS2010 I have driven all around Santa Barbara County and back and forth to LA a couple of times and it is beautiful. New Jersey also has a great deal of beauty with the pine barrens, the shore and the Delaware Water Gap region. I also like Jersey because when you feel like a good blast down the Interstate, the GSP and NJTP are right handy.
@vbdenny Yeah that's true but I am in the suburbs so the traffic and tolls are really annoying. But we do have better public transportation system than in the west coast. I personally like to go to Pennsylvania to actually see the scenery and even learn to fly! Also, I like visiting NYC as a tourist and checking out new things. But what I do miss about California is the scenic drives, REAL sunshine (no humidity, no thunderstorms), the nice quiet coast (I went to Pismo Beach on a regular schedule
@NHRHS2010 well understood. You can't beat California weather especially when you have winters in NY/NJ like this past one. My wife works in the Boston area and the winter was rough on her. Here in Virginia Beach we had about 26" of snow this winter. We usually get between none and a dusting but for the most part, it is great here.
@vbdenny I agree. I do like snow, though, since I like to go skiing. The Rocky Mountain states seem to be more prepared with snowy conditions than in the northeast. I do hate thunderstorms and heavy rain. I do recall recently walking into Wawa (a convenience store) and being within a mile from a lightning flash! My phobia of thunderstorms came back...time to move back to California as an adult?
@NHRHS2010 I am very cautious around lightning myself. Once while camping at Watkins Glen for a race, 3 dudes right next to us got struck. I also ski so snow isn't that big an issue for me as long as the terrain isn't flat in which case snow is useless for skiing. California is too expensive for my taste besides, I am an east coast boy.
@vbdenny wow lightning is very dangerous. If I do go back to California as an adult there are also side effect like homesickness. Although I would get back a lot of childhood memories and I won't have to worry about thunderstorms. I like going out to the Rockies to ski but if I were to stay in the east, I would choose Killington...or even go across the border to Mont Tremblant. Going locally, I usually go to Mountain Creek. As with beaches, I like Pismo Beach the best.
@NHRHS2010 I've skiied Killington quite a few times, also Stowe & Stratton. Probably a couple others I forgot about like Whiteface and Gore Mtn. Haven't ever skiied in Quebec, too cold there
@vbdenny Yes Quebec can be beyond freezing. I do recall going to Tremblant last March. While my town in New Jersey was already in spring weather with all the snow gone, I arrived in Tremblant by bus and it was still WINTER, like a typical February weather for New Jersey. Skiing was still decent this late in the season. I have also been to Mont Sainte Anne (near Quebec City) in December 2006 and it was unbelievably freezing.
hey, I gotta agree. I have driven it a couple of time and other than traffic headaches, it is a fabulous drive. We stopped in SLO for lunch at the place right by the water and watched the sea lions. I have a picture of it somewhere.
Way. When we got to the rental place at LAX, they said they had a Buick some Chevy, and the Sonota. I looked it over and it was black with the V-6 so I took that. Pretty nice car and it drove okay. I guess we put a little over 1,000 miles on it. I still prefer my LS400 Lexus though.
Hey man, we all prefer the car we normally drive, I know I do haha. I love that freeway by the way, I take it everyday. The opposite direction though so its not as pretty :(
We went both ways. We drove from LAX up to Santa Barbara and stayed there a week, then drove up to Monterery on the PCH. Stayed for awhile and went over to Salinas and drove back on the 101 and then the 405 which is where I took this. I found LA traffic to be worse than NYC. In the city, people are aggresive and don't put up with slow, oblivious drivers. In LA it was like la la land?
I agree with you, the city people floor it and road rage and do all kinds of ridiculous things just if someone is...following the law haha I truly hope you weren't sitting on the 405 during rush hour, that is a nightmare my friend
oh, we sat on the 405 for awhile. The biggest difference I noticed was that the HOV lanes were also jammed. Here in Virginia, the sit empty at rush hour while other lanes inch along. LA traffic is a nightmare. I drive in NYC all the time and while it is always very heavy, it is usually not stopped like in LA.
I remember this place. I remember when I lived in California until 1999, my family used to drive along the 101 Freeway frequently parallel to the Pacific Ocean near Santa Barbara (and there was also a railroad track parallel to the freeway and the ocean as well). And I still remember, traveling southbound on 101 in Gaviota, it suddenly turns to the east because of the ocean. This video gives me memories from the 1990s.

thanks. I guess it was exactly 2 years ago that I took this video. Beautiful coastal area although I much prefer the east coast.
