I concur, you are using a 'Granny Knot'. This is one of the few times a Granny is appropriate. I usually use a 'Figure 8'knot, please see my Videos of 'Knots 1' and 'Knots 2' for more details.

hey flora.i got the idea of making a God's eye and at the four corners i can tie cinnamon sticks to make a wind chime...i love the power of cinnamon and it's now decorative too.thnx 4 the video
So does the string hang over the doors edge, laying between the door and the frame? Or does it get nailed into the wall above the door? Also, I've read about witches putting brooms above their door for protect--something I want to so, but I still dont have a broom--I could probably put the cinnamon stick over the broom as well for a double protection or something....thoughts?

It's called a "granny knot." :D
a slip-knot is a sturdier more complicated one. :)

Yes. YOu can hang it either outside or in and above any door way.

I think it is grown in the tropics. The Cinnamon that we use is the bark.
