The simplicity of the babalawo is quite awesome; but I don't think he is intellectually up to the questions pressed on him. He may be versed in Ifa recitation but "applied- Ifa" or the philosophy of Ifa is clearly beyond him. Of course, this does not mean that I know a verse in Ifa which allows or disallows homosexual practice. But the question of sex does not generally obsess the Yoruba religions as it does Islam and Christianity. Tolerance and understanding are the hallmarks of Yoruba culture.

there are specific verses in Ifa that clearly state that homosexuality is a taboo in the traditional Yoruba religion. In my trips and conversations with knowlegable Babalawos this video supports the position that Olodumare takes. Ifa has answered this issue already, like the elder says in the video coda its a taboo in Ifa orisa worship

the interviewer is misrepresenting the Ifa priest. Forcing his own biase and prejudice on the priest. Shame on u 4 giving a false representation of ifa. Ifa is tolorance and acceptance of all the elements of life and beyond.

@dapodokumentary I agree ur point, it is a shame that people fail to look at the history of homosexuality, there has been research that showed this even in African Art, there was a colony of Homosexual in Egbaland prior to the arrival of the Colonisers, sad that history is buried. There is also the chance that the Ifa Priest has little knowledge of homosexuality, let alone respond with any conviction.

@dapodokumentary: As a babalawo - I can tell you that the interviewer is not in any way misinterpreting. Old roots IFA does not and will not allow individuals of unnaturals acts into the secrets. These are not based on prejudice, hate or lack of knowledge - but ancient rules set by the Orishas.

@4chango Tthe interviewer is dishonest with his interpretation of what the man was saying, all the Babalawa was saying was that he had never heard of homosexuality until he forced him to say it was a bad thing. What ancient rules? Ifa recognizes all forms of creation and accepts it as part of nature, it doesn`t discriminate. Bigots like you who claim to be Babalawo do.
