@mrmovieguide Brilliant list, though personally Chris Nolan is my favorite and I hate Coppola (yes, I'm aware that's practically a sacrilige but I don't care). Anyways, loved it.
@RazzaBeeDaSilva undoubtedly, both have given us great movies though one of them is (Spielberg) not appreciated enough, especially by the pseudo-intellectual snobs
@viiiiiiiviiiiiii777 As is Sergio Leone. Kubrick died about 10 years ago, but Leone has been dead since like 1984 or '85. That proves that you don't know much about the subject matter you are arguing about. This is for directors working today, and the fact that Leone hasn't made a film in over 25 years shows that you are clueless when talking about one of your "favorite" directors. And dude, Tarantino is so overrated. Do you really consider all of his movies good films?
@mrmovieguide ye thought you never knew much about directors, you just pick a movie you like and see the director. Everyone know's tim burton is one of the greatest directors who has ever lived.
@MrGrandMasTerMind look you dont kow the reputation of scorcese or speilberg or coppola. Tim burton is a good director but i just prefer these ten. Its my opinion if you have a problem i suggest you make your own video
@MrGrandMasTerMind Dude, Tim Burton is so hit or miss not just for me, but for the general public you can't include him in this list. Half of his movies are unoriginal pieces of dogshit, and the other half are very original movies.
@MrGrandMasTerMind Offense taken. You can't say no offense, and then tell someone they don't know anything about the one thing they love most. I know very much about directors, so I don't know what was wrong that I said besides being off on Leone's death by a couple years.
I consider the top three filmmakers of my generation to be: Paul Thomas Anderson, Christopher Nolan and Darren Aronofsky. "The Wrester" and "There Will Be Blood" would be in the top 20 best films of the decade for me. ; )
yes undoubtedly PT Anderson Christopher Nolan and Darren Arfonosky ( my favourite film by him the extremely underrated requiem for a dream) are one of the best filmmakers right now i thought of including roman polanski ( hes one of the reasons i got into films i completely worship polanski) but then i thought he wouldnt be making much movies anymore because of that sexual harassment case against a minor and spike lee well i only liked his malcolm x ( just my opinion no matter how ridiculous)
It's indeed difficult to judge various filmmakers because everyone - individually possesses a different perception upon who's the most inspirational to them personally. Roman Polanski, Gus Van Sant, Spike Lee, Woody Allen and Tim Burton would be upon my list (along with the others you presented here). ; )
woody allen....... well i made the video uploaded it and the realised i had left out woody allen gus van sant is good but he's made quite bad movies too( cowboy girls get the blues or whatever the name was) Tim burton is also good but i just prefer these ten and i agree zodiac is just too good to explain in words one of the best serial killer movies i have ever seen and unfortunately i saw the movie after uploading this video
i think you have to rank directors PER decade because a filmmaker might have great films in the 90s but make clunkers in the 2000s, yet he is still making movies that's why he's still a "working" director.
also, Fincher might have missed with Ben Button, but Zodiac is another story. that is a work of a great filmmaker. the terrifying atmosphere it creates is incredible even though there is no "hanibal lecter" or "the joker", or an "Anton Chigur" in the film.
Coppola is out of his A-game now, i don't think he's one of the best working directors today. but i fully appreaciate what he did in the 70s crafting masterpieces like Godfather and Godfather part 2(i still have to watch Apocalypse for the2nd time to make sure what i saw)
now i loved Scorsese, but i think PT Anderson sort of dethrones him with There Will Be Blood as the best working filmaker. i'd put QT as #3 and the Coens at #4(they're so unpredictable great).
it's really hard to rank directors because there are so many great directors out there. plus there are these directors who makes a maserpiece but i don't think they are one of the best like for example(i'll just think one out of the blue) Sofia Coppola(Lost in Translation) or Guillermo Del Torro(Pan's Labyrinth).
i didnt make this list according to who was making the best movies at the present if that was so spielberg probably would have been 10 and coppola as you say wouldnt have even been here but in thins list i chose the directors who have made the greatest movies and are still working scorcese made raging bull coppola made ( my personal favourite) apocalypse now, spielberg made schindlers list and so on its just in the order of who i thought were most talented and made the greatest films
are scorsese older movies better thn his recent ones cas i didn't like the aviator the departed or gangs of new york the only one i liked was goodfellas
well i liked his departed and aviator but yeah his last masterpiece was goodfellas in a way you are right his older movies are better ( taxi driver, raging bull) well his leanardo di caprio starring thriller shutter island is soon going to be released lets hope its good
I'm very glad ur not one of those film snobs who thinks just because steven speilberg makes a lot of mainstream films he's not a great filmmaker or a "true filmmaker" or something. He's one of my favorites.
I'd also agree that Martin Scorsese is the greatest living director.
I know what your talking about and you'll find most of these snobs in david lynch fan clubs and the truth is that these film snobs are the dumbest assholes out their i've read some of their depictions and interpretations of art house directors like michael haneke and lynch himself and i can tell you i havent read such bullshit anywhere else one guy even interpreted eraserhead as ( i swear to god its true) strawberry flavoured condoms
You left out Lloyd Kaufman, President of Troma Studios and director of "The Class of Nuke'em High", "Tromeo & Juliet", "Terror Firmer", "Poultrygeist" and "The Toxic Avenger" series. :)
Other than that, the list is pretty accurate. I'll give ya a 5 outta 5.
mother fuck/////////////////say wat ?///where is the man who made two highest grossing films .
i guess you know his name
