I loved how you made the analogy with superpowers. Yes, I do believe you are right on about that. This country (being the US) has SUCH a long way to go. @ElizabethSerenity you have to be careful with mace. most forms are actually not legal to deploy. Of course, those that sell it wont tell you that. THAT SAID, yeah, one should prepare a defense. I have a CPL and carry a .380 or a 357. I also tend to carry a plethura of blades, and improvised weaponry for self defense. A bandana is a weapon if you simply take the time to learn what you can do with it. :)

On the subject of jews in Germany, they isolated themselves in their communities and if you were not a jew, they would treat you like 2nd class citizen. So they caused the hate that occured. The transgender community is scattered around the world and are trying to mix, so that is always a good thing. The people that can't handle TS or gay obviously have issues and then they have issues with anyone who is not like them. So they are the ones that are a problem.

@stormsears While jews were integrated in sociaty, however, they had their neighborhoods that were dominated by jews. So technically speaking, yes they were, but on the idividual bahavior level, they were not and their behavior suggested that they did not want to mix with the "non-jews". One thing that needs to be said here is that not all jews were like that. Thre were many that were good and honest people.
my best friend in the whole world is a raging conserative and bigot. I love her to death but sometimes she says things that make my skin crawl. One time she said and I quote (because it's imblazened in my memory) "Every time a culture accepts homosexuality that culture falls, like Egypt and Greece." The utter stupidity of that statement takes my breath away. And it hurts me to know that anyone can be that cruel. I know being homosexual and transgender are two different things... it's crazy

Off-topic (it's me), although considerably smaller than the scale of Jewish internment in nazi Germany don't forget that homosexual men (where the pink triangle come from) were imprisoned too. I would think alot of MTFs or transvestites at the time were classified as such; Apparently many of the homosexual prisoners were re-imprisoned by the Allied-established Federal Republic of Germany at the end of the war. In 2002 the German government issued an official apology to the gay community.
Transsexuals are a recent phenomenon, in past times minorities were the scapegoats. I don`t think most Americans give transsexuals much thought. Americans just have to keep their heads together and stop listening to people who don`t know what they are talking about.

It is simple to focus on the negatives of being TG when in fact there are positives & we make progress constantly. There are many options now available to us. The way to transition has never been easier. Everyone now "knows someone." When I disclose, I find acceptance and understanding wherever I go. Your England experience was tragic and frightening, but to my thinking, the question is not "why did he hate me?" but rather "Why doesn't society fix psychotic people?" You will never sort him out.
