  • Ha Laura is playing hard to get :)

  • I love how Almanzo is all puzzled b/c Laura is now playing hard to get. :)

  • Is that Mrs.Brewster?

  • y is there 4 dislikes this show is great

  • 5:45 Almonzo opens the front door for nothing lol :D

6:10 he puts 6 tsp of sugar in his tea lol ;)

funny what love could do to people

  • I LOVE Almonzo and Laura.... but, call me crazy..... I think I like Mary and Adam a teensy bit better?

  • Is it just me, or is Albert's voice getting deeper? ^^

  • haha did you see Eliza (his sister) when she said "What have you done" is a scared tone i started cracking up

  • okay, so at one point on the ride home she looks at her feet and smiles, now only the little house fanatics(like me) know that they skipped the scene where she says she needs to buy new shoes to make herself look older, so her looking at her feet would not make any sense to someone who has not watched this before

  • @maggiemae1014 hence my question!

  • Funny, what a woman does to a man. I've never viewed it from this side of the coin. No dad, no brothers, so it is nice to see.

  • i wouldnt want to feel what Almanzo is feeling from about 4:38 on when Laura says she'll have to think about it.... :( poor Almanzo

  • almanzo is sooo cute XD

  • almanzo must have felt so blown off at around 1:30 and a little before that

  • OMG!!! he said NEITHER DO I!!!!!!!! AHH!! *sigh* Almanzo is my husband...

  • she said i'll think about it....i think it had more to do with not wanting to sound overly excited about it not only to almanzo but also to pa

  • They are so sweet together. Great chemistry.Loved them.

  • I love the moment when Laura is talking with her ma and Almanzo is saying "I'll pick you up on sunday"and Laura doesn't look at him! He's so sad.Disappointed!lol.He's mad in love with her.Actually he always loved her but she was too young and immature.I think he always has loved her since he saw her at the first time at school...

  • why does laura look happy when she looks at her shoes?? i keep wondering that whenever i see this episode!

  • @jecka1982 Almanzo is starting to look at Laura differently, as more of a young lady rather than a child. Laura notices Almanzo is starting to see her in a "different" way, so she hides her shoes so he does not see them. The shoes are worn and Laura doesn't want almanzo to see them because he may begin to look at her as a child again or a young friend. This is just my opinion on the issue.

  • @Emotional2000 i seen this epi befor she didnt like her old shoes and change and she gets new shoes and they hurt her feet she got them because she wanted to look older so when manly looked she like thank you shoes

  • @Emotional2000 Actually one of the deleted scenes, she had bought and worn high heels to school that day to make her look older. She was tortured by them on the way there but was determined to get used to them. She had thought that they were the reason that he thought she looked older. :)

  • @Emotional2000 actually, in the uncut version it shows that Laura bought the shoes just a few days before school started. She bought them because they have heels an make her look taller. She pratices walking around in the shoes and looks at the shoes because she thinks they might have helped Almanzo think of her differently. Also, Thank you so much for uploading these!!!!! I love Little House on the Prairie!!!

  • @Emotional2000 I never understood the shoe thing either until I saw the uncut version of the episode. In it Laura orders a pair of high heeled shoes in order to make herself look taller and older, but unfortunately that scene never made it into the final version of the episode.

  • @snailorama Sorry about posting so many times- I didn't think it was posting properly! :-)

  • @jecka1982 Also, Laura is happy or excited about Almanzo looking at her in a more young adult way. That is why she smiles as she hides her shoes under her dress as well.

  • @Emotional2000 ah i see. Thanks for replying!

  • @Emotional2000 I never understood the shoes either until I saw the uncut version of the episode. There's a scene where Laura orders high heeled shoes to make herself look taller and older. That scene was cut out.

  • I never understood the shoe thing either until I saw an uncut version of the episode. In the scene that was removed, Laura orders a pair of high heeled shoes to make herself look older and taller. They shouldn't have cut that out, it doesn't really make any sense.

  • @jecka1982 In the extended version of this episode she goes and buys shoes with heels because she thought they would make her look older. And when Almanzo says she looks older she thinks its because of her new shoes. Thats why she smiles down at them. :)

  • @jecka1982 it is to do with a piece cut out, when Laura walks she finds it difficult because the shoes have heels. Now she can walk on heels so that is a sign she is becoming older

  • @jecka1982 There is actually a scene that has been cut. Laura asks Mrs. Trimble where she can get shoes with heels on them so that she will look older than her students. She buys the shoes and when Almanzo picks her up he says she looks older. Laura thinks it's the shoes that made her look this ways which is why she looks at her shoes.

  • @UCONNcheer1997 thanks very much for the explanation. have always wondered why so many episodes in general are edited and some aren't! very odd!

  • @jecka1982 Yes, since Almonzo is beginning to see her differently, Laura quickly realizes that her shoes were exposed and she isnt siting like an adult should. Only a kid puts his/her shoes on the rails like that. As a proper/mature lady, one shouldn't sit with feet or ankles being so openly exposed like that or along that line.

  • @jecka1982 It's been cut from this episode, but earlier Laura brought new shoes with heels, to make herself look older as a teacher, so when Almanzo comments on her looking older, she looks at the shoes because she probably is thinking "they did the trick!"

  • @sjosiek thanks for explaining that to me :)

  • in the books she has big feet in the show i think she's happy her feet can reach so far and that she's all grown up now

  • @jecka1982 I think she just wanted to seat like a lady. This is such a cute episode!

  • @jecka1982 I thought it was because the shoes have a heel. She thinks it was the shoes that made him think she looked older

  • @jecka1982 I think its because her new shoes have a heel on them and she thinks they helped in causing him to think she seems older

  • @jecka1982 I found out why she hides her shoes. Apparently some scenes were cut and in one of those scenes you can see Laura buying taller shoes, so she appears more mature. And I guess she smiles at her shoes because she is excited that it worked.

  • @MsLeyla04 Yeah when I was a kid watching the reruns, I never understood why she did that. Then in the uncut version, (footage that was lost some people say) she went to a store, purchased them, and the old lady asked what was in the bag and she told her and why she bought them. That if she looked taller, she would look a little older and more mature. Not only did it work with the kids, but on Almonzo too. A man trap lol. I was so excited when these two finally got together.

  • @jecka1982 There was a part that was cut out. She went to a store to buy shoes that had a heel. If you watch it on tv it shows the part but not on youtube.

  • @jecka1982 Actually, in the 'uncut' version Laura got new shoes and they had heels on them. She wanted to make herself look older again, and that is what happened!

  • @jecka1982 well I think, Emtional2000 could be right and in addition: now that Almanzo looks at her in a different way she also has to sit like a lady.. so your shoes are under you not in front of you :) that's how the ladies sit, isn't it? Straight back hands on their lap (or in that case she is holding something) and feet under the dress :) a polite gesture :)

  • Almanzo Is love sick!!!!

  • Omg that was so cute!!!

Laura: I'll have to think about it.

    Almanzo: .... Oh....

    That was just priceless!!

  • @heymejenny I loved how Charles was grinning like a cheshire cat behind Almanzo after she said she'd have to think about it. hahaha

  • These days someone over the age of 18,,in their 20's at best going after a 16 year old would label them a pedofile,,get them jail time,,etc..

Amazing how times change, laws change..In that era it was not uncommon for someone in their 20's to marry another under the age of 18..

Try that these days and see what ya get,,lol.

  • Almanzo is "twitterpated" lol

  • I absolutely love Pa's face at 4:43! hahaha priceless! :)

  • I wish twenty-something year olds still mooned over 16 year olds now the way they did back then... Hahahaha I adore Almomzo!!!

  • I love how Charles says "My Daughter" when Laura plays it cool..lol. She did the right thing though

  • haha charles evil grin when she says i'll have to think about it. awesome.

  • I feel bad 4 eliza at 8:27 - 8:42 she looks sad like her brother now has someone 2 share his life with and she still has no one

  • @candlelight482 yeah she does, but I think she was concerned for him. He knew that Laura always had feelings for him, and now she's kind of pushing him away and he's confused. All Eliza wanted was for him to be happy, no one was more please than she was when they were finally married. Which is strange to see, because in the books she and Laura hated each other.

  • @tmwalkerm That kinda came out in the episode where Almanzo was in the wheelchair. I can imagine that an overbearing sister would be difficult to deal with when u first get married. I couldn't do it! lol

  • @scprincessmk right, I forgot about that, she'd drive me nuts if I had someone like her hovering over me all the time. I mean, its great that she's so protective but she took it to a whoooole new level.

  • My mom is a lot like Caroline.....especially in this part.

  • I love how happy Charles looks when she says "I'll have to think about it." lolrofl!

  • just wanted to ask...why does he call her beth?

  • @arachnophobia100 Almanzo calls Laura Beth as a nickname. He took it from Laura middle name which is Elizabeth.

  • @Emotional2000 the real Almanzo called her Bessie, I like Beth better lol.

  • lol I remember when I was a kid and laughing when he puts all those teaspoons of sugar in his tea lol

Ok there are a lot of times when I despise Eliza Jane (Like Days of Sunshine, days of Shadow).. but from 7:35 to 7:55 she's awesome!!

  • lol I remember when I was a kid and laughing when he puts all those teaspoons of sugar in his tea lol

  • I like Laura when she's mature. She looks better and acts like it too. She got on my nerves sometimes when she was a kid.

  • Why are the books soooo diferent then the videos

  • @ilovelilhouse1, the LHOP series is based on the life and times of Laura Ingalls Wilder.

  • @Emotional2000 so do I, even the books are different than the transcripts and real accounts of LIW.

  • @Emotional2000 Yes it is.The series is however a bit different than the books of Laura INgalls wilder. For instance in the books,Albert never existed and Charles didn't adopt him,Mary went blind but didn't meet Adam at the blind school and Carrie and Laura were closer than in the episodes.Almanzo noticed Laura when she was 14 too and they married easily without Eliza Jane .It is fictional when laura wants to teach elsewhere cause mistresses were single back then.LHOP is a series.

  • @ilovelilhouse1 yea, like the part where Mary never really did get married or move out or anything like that. She lives with her parents until they died then she moved in with Carrie and then Grace..lol. I usually don't read and watch the movie to anything because of the differences. This series was still really well done though :)

  • LOL, My inner 12 year old is squeeing right now! I loved this so much growing up. Thanks for posting.

  • I like how Almanzo notices Laura a lot more, too. =)

I wish someone would think of me like that, lol.

  • almanzo got bit by the love bug LOL

  • wish i had a sweet man like almanzo. men seem to be alot nicer to woman back then.

  • "It's not what she's done... it's what I've done."

    "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!"

"I asked her to go with me to the church social."

    "Ohhh..." hahaha. (:

  • wht does he call her?

  • Beth...cause of her middle name

  • Mr.Ingalls behind Almanzo at 4:40. Lol

  • i like her shoes

  • this is basically the only episode that i like Eliza Jane in.

  • Almanzo <3 FINALLY!

  • the show is on Dutch tv again and Laura is still a little girl. It's funny to see this on youtube. So thanx for posting.

  • i love it :D

    Go Laura!

    i'm sorry...Mrs ingalls

  • so glad she played it cool, and just walked in the door. As he watched her go in, he looked very much like charles... Sage advice from ma - 'just let him pursue". Oh well done, Laura - took the wind right out of his sails with, 'i'll have to think about it'.

  • Look at Laura gloating! Aww <3

  • finally almonzo likes her

  • "ill have to think about it" I HAVE TO THINK ABOUT IT...wow lol

  • i think Almanzo is nice looking and laura is lucky to have him

  • -And vise versa.

  • Almanzo is making me laugh right now...

His nose is starting to be wide open. Laura did the right thing..she kept it cool.. Pa is so protective of Laura, it's so funny!!.watching this makes me smile!!!

  • i know

but it is Charles that make me ´laugh

  • I love how Laura telling Almanzo that she has to 'think about it' is kind of like payback for the time Laura saw Almanzo about to go out with those older girls like Christy and Sara,

  • Thanks so much for posting I miss this show

  • lol..i love how Laura's got him all fumbuzzled after she tells him she'll think about going to the social.

  • You don't understand that Laura looks at her shoes at 0:09 and laugh?! Well, in Germany you have some scenes after her first day and they explain it; she brought shoes with high heels because she wants to look taller.

  • Like that smooth jazz soundtrack...

    Almonzo is so funny!

  • LOL When Almanzo asks Laura and Laura's like, "I'll have to think about it, Manly," Charles' face turns from kinda *humbug* into a huge grin :P

  • I just read the book that was published after Laura died, published by her daughter. In it, she refers to Almanzo as Manly but never explains it. It's also never explained in all the Little House books. Funny.

  • Well in this TV show, if I'm not mistaken, when Laura first meets him and is introduced by his sister, she accidentally lets slip "Manly." I think his sister called him something close to that, but I'm not sure

  • I think Eliza calls him Manny. Laura is the only one who calls him Manly. people often come up with pet names for the ones they love. he's the ony one who called her Beth. it's sweet really. Manly to her is probably like her knight in shining armor, her protector, her strong macho man.

  • in the back to school epsiode she got his name wrong and he said u and only u can call me manly Patty

  • She calls him "Manly" because everyone else called him "Manzo" and she didn't like that nickname. His brother Royal called him "Mannie", not Eliza Jane...they got it wrong in the show.

He called her "Beth" because his oldest sister's name is Laura and he can't stand her or the name...so he took a nickname from Laura's middle name.

It's explained somewhere in These Happy Golden Years.

  • \☻/ §

     / \ Bobby is sick...

  • I love Almanzo <3333333 LOLz

  • I do too!! The real Almonzo was such a cutie!! He looked like Paul Walker!!

  • LMFAOLMFAOLMFAO

    1:03.

    DENIED.

  • there neesed to be some more kissin between them hehe ;)

  • Almanzo is so hot! :-p

  • I like it when Almanzo says "Nothing" throughout the episode.

  • The scene with Almanzo and his sister is so funny!

  • This is such a pivotal episode. I love watching Almanzo's feelings toward Laura transform. iiieeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • do you have any episodes of nellie during her pregnancy? i remember percival trying to keep her in shape.

  • at 444 pa is trying soo hard not 2 laugh

  • i hate that part where almanzo feels like he is ignored starting at about 1:03

  • i think it's cute...role reversal. that's how laura used to feel when almanzo was talking to others (esp. those girls...like in the circus episode)

  • oops, i mean snowstorm.

  • it's cute how they do the almanzo/laura development in the show, but i prefer the books' description of almanzo's courting of laura. so sweet and innocent, but with a good dose of mischief thrown in. and who can forget the sandstorm chapter.

  • i prefer how the book almanzo courts her, but i stilll love this!

  • i love how almonzo is so unsure of himself

  • i mean almanzo

  • Almanzo acts so cute in this!

him and laura are really cute too:)

  • why does she look at her boots?

  • because in a scene before then, she bought some higher heeled shoes to look taller for school when she teaches. So she assumed almanzo fell for her because of the shoes.

  • well theres many ways to look at it, she is fixated on being older, people looking at her in a older light, she was sitting there like halfpint with her feet on the carrige, She took them down IMO she wants to feel older. be like a woman

  • way to go, laura!

nice way to keep him waiting.

    whoo hoo!

u kno he wants u bad.

    lol xD

    thats love right there. <3

  • From the Laura Ingalls Wilder Memorial Society:

Laura, Almanzo and daughter Rose went to stay with his family in Minnesota. At that time Almanzo's sister Laura was living there also. With two Laura's in the house it became very confusing so Almanzo started calling Laura "Bess". This was short for Laura Elizabeth. This nickname would follow Laura all through her life.

  • it beth not bess

  • According to several internet sources Almanzo called Laura Bess. These sources are related to the books and Laura's real life

Use keywords Bess Wilder or Bessie Wilder or Laura "Bess" Wilder.

  • why does he call her beth??? i thought her name was laura

  • i tyhink he said a sentence from little women a book from what laura and her sister an dtwo other girls plaid in season 3 or 4

  • noo her middle name is elizebeth so he always calls her beth., i found outt thanks anyway

  • her name is laura, but almanzo happens to have a cousin who's name is also laura, and her middle name is elizabeth, beth for short.

  • It's interesting how Laura really wanted to teach... in the books she couldn't have not wanted to teach any more then humanly possible.

  • its so cute how almanzo is all over the place

  • puxa en unas de las serie k mas me ha gusado ya tengo 25 año y esa fue k marco mi infanicia

  • Yaij! That thing with her not needing to "flash" her "grown-up-boots" anymore is my absolute favourite happening ever!

I have been looking for this episode for ages.

    Thank you so much, Emotional2000!

PS: Beth and Manly rule - I love them!

  • My sister's boyfriend is 16 years older than she :/

  • He's 10 years older than Laura so I would say about 26 years old.

  • u can get the DVDs of the season 4 free at the library

  • Not all of them where I live...

  • Oh, I know this comment was made below a ways, but Laura calls him either Manly or Manny in one of her books when their house burns down...she cries "Oh what will Manly say?!" Or something like that

  • i love the real Laura Ingalls Wilder's books! And the shows to. These Happy Golden Years is my favorite one

  • Mine too! : D

  • @lauraingallswilder13 MEE TO HAHA!!!!

  • What's the episode that comes after this one? Anyone know? I'm finding it hard to know which one to watch since there is no episode number on any of the vids. But you have done a wonderful job, Emotional2000, so I'm not criticising you at all. I just don't know in what order to watch some of the vids.

  • the next episode after this one was called He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not

  • Thanx for your help! : D

  • No offense taken... : D

  • the real laura ingalls wilder called him Manly if you read the first four years, west from home, on the way home all her letters start out with "Manly dear,"

  • Omg, its been a long time since I have read the books complete all the way through... I need to definetly brush up on them again... Thanks for your comment suzanfr and your LHOP knowledge...

    * Time for me to sit down and start reading my LHOP book collection again...(sigh)*

  • I wanted to thank you for putting up all of my favorite little house episodes..sweet sixteen is my favorite...

  • Youi're welcome and thanks for making me read my LHOP books all over again! lol : D

  • i agree that laura is proud of her shoes. she spent most of her young life barefoot. this is just so grown up for her, to have big girl shoes. in the book, laura says she had many suitors, but almanzo was the most persistent. she's really not very romantic about him in the books, tho. also in the books, pa is the one who is relaxed about almanzo, but ma is worried. and i wonder where the whole 'manly' thing came from. i don't recall it in any of the books.

  • "and i wonder where the whole 'manly' thing came from. i don't recall it in any..."

I think Michael Landon may have had something to do with this.... Because you're right, I don't remember Laura calling Almanzo 'manly' in the Little House books either...

  • @Emotional2000 - I read Little House on Rocky Ridge - I think she calls him Manly a few times. =)

  • THE music in this show is awesome! I have been a fan since I was 7 so 30 years! I wish the world weren't so nasty and evil today....these shows are so pure and real. People have these feelings, and the music....it's just perfect for each scene! GOD BLESS ML and the crew!

  • Thanx for sharing mrbrandon71...

  • Love struck lol

  • I love how after Laura says maybe to the church social, Almanzo just stands there while Charles is simply gleaming in back of him. "Your daughter, huh?"

  • the whole scene with almanzo and eliza is adorable, haha.

  • OMG-I love rediscovering this series as an adult. I get to notice the little funny quirks I didn't back then. For example when Alamzo tells Eliza that Laura said she'd think about it and Eliza's little smirk and knowing glance at Almanzo just totally cracked me up. That's not something a kid notices.

  • Agreed!

  • adam and almanzo were so great

  • Totally! I love them lots! : )

  • His arm is so heavy, the table almost collapsed!

  • for some reason I'm remembering (from when it first aired) that she bought those boots and they were 'high heeled', and that's why she looks down at them so thankfully....but it's not on the discs...maybe I'm remembering something else...but otherwise her glance doesn't make sense. Anyone else remember this???

  • she got the boots with heals because she was shorter than her students, plus almonzo noticed thinking she was older some how.

  • Thanks! I knew I wasn't crazy. But, why isn't it in the latest release of DVD's I wonder? Or did I read it in the books and just translated it to the show? I do that sometimes!

  • i don't think you read anything into it. I think in the series the expresion on her face tells you everything. like when Almonzo said that she looked older, then on the ride home looks down at her feet, it suggests that she's wearing heals.

  • I think the reason that she looks down at her feet is because she has them propped up like a kid would do. When she realizes that, she puts them down and sits more "mature."

  • Good point... But I disagree.. I think she draws he feet in b/c her shoes look worn and she doesn't want Almanzo to see her shoes b/c of it...

  • Yeah,that makes sense too.
