  • your videos are kinda boring you need more excitement

  • do you know that you can use de 7.1 adapter for using only de creative sound card?

  • hey what mixer do you use, great videos

  • @allboutthetuba it's a Behringer Vmx300 a thing

  • hey i dont have a pci card slot what can i do

  • @arrowmanjr Buy a USB soundcard.

  • What DJ software do u use ???

  • I have a macbook pro--does the same apply?

  • @WonderWeiss324 this dose not apply to macbook pro. i suggest u buy a serato or traktor. or better yet a midi controller would do just fine.

  • love that table

  • hey i have a laptop with only 1 output with is my headphone but what i what to do is be abale to hear the next priview song to be played that only i can here on headphone whole i have another song plying on front house speakrs.. how can i do that? or do u think usin a sound card with more then one output work??

  • hey cool stuff i got a ? cue is that cue mean that u can hear ur priview song with out hearing what ur mixing on the background...

  • @josebachata you dont make much sense!

  • hehe... @ 7:45 - "bobble head DJ" =)

Thanks for sharing. Great idea on the promo CD/cards.

  • I need help!! I am going to buy a Hercules RMX console which im goin to connect to my laptop!! then i connect my console to my Behringer VMX200 mixer, then my mixer to my amplifier and then my amplifier to the speakers.. is that correct?? and btw wat amplifier or speakers would you suggest?? PLZ I AM DESPERATE!!!!!

  • @mcrulez13 why don't use serator or tracktor studio? and don't buy a Hercules RMX. Speakers and amplifier depends on a lot of things like the amount of people and the size of the room

  • that is the best way for cheap djing! i will buy a numark m2, i 've got virtual dj and i do not need cd players and other shit!

  • try stop at 0:22 lol

  • if you want to be a Digital DJ, you can best to buy 2x CDJ-400 and a laptop.

You hook the cdj-400 up to your computer with usb cable and then you can use them as a soundcard and midi controller for Virtual Dj or Traktor.

If you want you can even switch on the fly to CD's

  • dude, OMG... ur so lame. LOL

  • lol i do thats all the time to n yes there sum assos who are diks even though i know im better than them n there sum kool ones who let me dj a lil

  • Get somthing fast and sell the 16 channel for A 4 and put the laptop on that

  • (cont) We need a laptop with the right components for DJing, obviously but don't know anything but Windows. Need to know if we need special audio cards, etc..not concerned with the grapics.I have an Acer Aspire 5610 with a multimediacard slot. Would that work if I DL'd my mp3s to it and used the RCA jacks you showed? Can't wait to see ur response, sorry, I am SO non-tech! :( Thanks again Brian!

  • @queenrosered I would go with the top brand names tha DJs know and trust..

HP/Dell or apple...Other brands like gateway dont work best for dj why, it will turn off on you in the middle of your event...Hard drive space of 360 or more or get a External Hard Drive which work best if you have songs on your laptop of over 4,000 or more...Use these External Hard Drives/USB so you wont screw your laptop memory n hard drive space...RCA Cables buying them from wal mart or raido shack there not 4 djs.

  • You REALLY know ur shizz! WE had more money than brains a few years ago and we wanted to do KJ/DJing. So we have a CAVS JB 199(4 Kar.)& a 16 channel Yamaha MG16/4 mixer (overkill?) & a roadrack to house those & a trip-tray RSQ Karaoke DISC player as well as a QSC 2460 amplifier (whew! Damn roadrack weighs a ton!) We want to add a laptop just for our DJ music.HELP! Should we scrap the Yamaha for a smaller mixer? What Laptop& mixer do U recommend? Wanna be able to play MP3s from a Laptop Thanks!!

  • @queenrosered You don't need a Karaoke Disc Player. A karaoke disc player is too much work. All you need is a alright'ish laptop/notebook. get some karaoke software that will play and burn/rip your discs to CD+G or if you know your stuff about computers then torrent sites are another way to get karaoke tracks, an all you have to do is drop and drag the karaoke song into the player once you have searched the song. I hold 7000 karaoke tracks and manage to play them without using a single disc.

  • i found video! it is veryhelpful all over the youtube how to videos

  • hi brian. your video is very help ful and easy to follow, even tho i already figured it out how to do dis a few months ago. the problem im having is how to send music from my lap top to each of my turntables so i can loop and scratch. maby you can help me? do i need soft ware? or just hardware and if so what hardware am i lookin for?

  • very helpful..even though i knew what to do i still feel better about it because someone as pro as you do the same.

  • what program or software you are using?

  • Hey, you gave me some great ideas, I've been messing around with Ableton and complicated external sound cards, etc., & just getting bumbed. This looks so much simpler. What program is that you are using to mix?

  • good advertisement for dj musko!!

  • you rock thanks for your vids they are helpful

have you done a demo for the ADJ jelly fish and majestic

I own these lights they are awesome

I am having some problems programming my ADJ lights can you help

    Thanks

    DJ Manny D

  • i'm going to be contacting you- let me know where is the best place to get a response =) take care!

  • Hey Brian, I am using my laptops for school gigs, but when the laptop is plugged in, there is some kind of background noise that never goes away. When I unplug it, it goes away, but it is a pain keeping up with battery life all through the night. I have tried several mixers and laptops.. any clue how to fix that? Thanks!

  • @jujomoqui hi what you need to do is plug in a ground loop isolator. That will stop the feedback straight away. Enjoy.

  • CAN YOU PLEASE WALK ME THROUGH MY DENON 2500HD TO SARETO......DON'T KNOW TO GET MY DENON2500 CONNECTED TO MY SSL, THANK YOU IF YOU CAN HELP....DJ TONEY-TONE

  • I use a DP2 and a Gigaport sound card depending if I am at a club or using my rig. I also use PCDJ Red Mobile and VDJ. They both work with the DP2 and the sound card. I would recommend using a USB device instead of using the headphone jacks. I'm also running windows 7 on my laptop. Digital DJ with the DP2 works great for me. The great thing about the DP2 is that it is a controller and sound card all in 1 piece of equipment for 300 bucks. Definitely worth the money.

  • whts the software you are using

  • ok how can i setup windows 7 and virtual dj in a dmm4000 behringer mixer can you help me please

  • @porvenirsa1 You need a usb sound card. then you set up as an external mixer in VDJ options and set it for your sound card to use. The Gigaport HD works very well.

  • Awesome video Brian, even if it is an old one. Really appreciate all your content. You Da Man!

  • Its Audigy tha sound card... not Audiology... Epic FAIl jesus....

  • great vid!

  • What software are you using to mix on the video?

  • your so nice to let other dj now stuff. some people will not help out your cool.

  • I use LIGHTSCRIBE, looks pro

  • Comment removed

  • Bute mate cheers for the tute, im just starting out and want to mess with mixing first so this seems a quick short term cost effective fix cheers, like the others say keep the tutes comming in.

  • Have you ever used a USB mixer such as the Citonic SMFX 200 (2 channel USB mixer). I am considering starting with this as my first board and was just wondering if you or anyone you know may have any advice on this. I was going to link it to Virtual DJ. Thanks

  • Have you ever used a USB mixer such as the Citonic SMFX 200 (2 channel USB mixer). I am considering starting with this as my first board and was just wondering if you or anyone you know may have any advice on this. I was going to link it to Virtual DJ. Thanks

  • dude the music sucks... your tips are good tho

  • i love djing ! Dj-Orion

  • i have the virtual dj how do i hook up mi lap top to the audio sistem

  • Numark DJ iO

  • You can also get the DP2 From ADJ

  • heeey

    can u help me ??

    i wana to mix songs

i have laptop and virtual dj program...

how i can makes sound goes from headset and spekars...

    thnx

  • you can always go out and bye the hercules rmx which is a piece of hardware that uses virtual dj porgram. you plug it into your latop and its almost like a mini controller. i have it myslef and it reallly isnt all that bad

  • @colombiano399 i agree.. only problem i really have with the RMX is scratching.. not really the greatest to scratch with but i never tried to mess around with the settings to bring down the latency issue

  • @omarisayed Hey, if youre using virtual dj, just go configuration, sound setup and as input you have to eitherchoose 2 different sound cards(one for headphones, one for speakers) or you have to have a sound car with at least 5.1 sound coding, so you can choose 2 channels for headphones and 2 channels for speakers. In Virtual DJ if you choose headphones, you can choose if you want to use 2 soundcards or one and you can also choose which channel master and which one is headphones.

  • heey..

    can u help mee ?!!

i wanna mix song using virtual dj mix staion..

i have laptop and the the program..

how i can have the sond goes from spekars and the headset ???

    thnx

  • heey man..

i want to mix song..but i have laptop and program virtual dj..how can i but secound sound card to listen to music on headset and the other sond goes to speakers..

    thnx man

  • You can actually use the "Cue" or the "headphone" output whithout it being so low... for instance, you can use a mini amp. for your 3.5mm jack after the mixer ;-)

  • very nice

  • nice video but i would recomend getting serato, its way easier but this is very good

  • i'm using macbook and it doesn't have that big of a plug in like your laptop...only for usb. do you think that i-studio would carry sound card? i live in thailand and i sold all my dj equipments before i moved. i was thinking using rane serato scratch live, but if i could do it this way will save more money. i prefer using laptop to dj if possible. what brand and model of that sound card you're using?

  • nicely done video this helps so much

  • what software are you using?

  • can you recommend a laptop for audio creation?

  • rain recording AWESOME!

  • what sound card did you plug into laptop?

is it usb, it looks big.

    thanks.

  • thank you very very much.

  • can u plug your laptop into only one channel and use a cd in the other?

when using ur laptop to dj, do u have to use a program or can u just run mp3's off like itunes?

  • hay just stummbald on this, its really helpfull cheers :D

  • if i want to connect a 2 channel mixer to my laptop and i have that cables do i need that extra soundcard? i just want to hear it with my headphone over some years maybe in partys what do u gues?

  • yeah you will need another soundcard if you want to cue up songs, i suggest getting a usb mixer with 2 usb channels because if your using softwear such as virtual dj you can configure it so each channel on the laptop has its own channel on the mixer like a dual cd player, hope this helps :)

  • Hey, Brian, would a mixing board be the same as a regular turntable mixer?

If not, how much do you think one would generally cost?

  • for the bedroom dj who only has a laptop and no money or whatever reason, you can still mix with headphone cueing, you can make the main sound come out on the left channel and headphone cue on the right channel, its gonna be mono but it gives you headphone cue. its an option on most pc dj softwares.

another option would be to do what bryan did but each deck on your pc dj software should be mapped to each sound card, meaning more buttons to push on the mixer, pfl's on both channel and the fader.

  • you can also do with cheap USB sound cards (few bucks) but of course you should only use it for the headphone channel because sound quality is not that great, and the main sound should come out on the main laptop sound out.

to HowToDJWeddings, that is a rare occasion and obviously his fault for not caring enough for his dj equipment. anyways always carry a flash drive/card with your music backups.

a pacemaker is also handy for backup purposes.

  • Nice, Brian, Nice! Very simple, very effective!

  • is it legal to pass out mixes of music?

  • yes...

  • Yeah man, dont worry so much about accidentally handing your mix CD over to a FBI agent in the club. You going to live your life and die in fear, or do you not want to worry about petty things and enjoy/promote yourself a little?

  • what a great idea with the headphones through the mixer. Thanks for the tip brother.

  • Thanks =]

  • ha u could just use itunes dj it does everything for u

  • Hi i was wondering if my laptop dosnt have a place for an extra sound card and i just wanted to play songs off of iTunes if it would be possible and as a second audio source use like a iPod or something. A response would be greatly appreciated

  • if u dont have that card slot, just buy a sound interface, its basicaly a external soundcard that can connect to usb or firewire, its alot more quality, has more inputs/outputs, and is an easy solution for laptop mobile gigging

id suggest something like Edirol UA 25 as a good interface for ur mobile gigging kit

  • Picked up a Hercules RMX. So far so good. I recommend this product to digital djs. it comes with virtual dj. Great tool for beatmixing and people who like a simple setup. check out some of the demos on youtube...

  • B ecarefull not to rely on your laptop only for your music. I work on computers and DO NOT TRUST THEM! I have a Buddy that hooked up his laptop at his gig and it was dead... So he thought, hey I have a back up laptop... same problem... hard drive crash! So being a smart guy he actually had 2 extra hard drives in his case.... both DEAD!!!! Turns out his 5 year had been rolling his laptop bag down the stairs a few times and he did not have CD back ups! I like the american audio sdj-1 for my MP3s !

  • what program is that

  • good video

  • It's just headphone and levels and amplifiers dude... don't flip out. lol

  • One of the issues with mixing with a laptop is you'll get 'ground loop'. This occurs when the laptop is plugged its power supply. The earth line on many laptop power supplies generate a hum, if the laptop is plugged into the same powerboard as the amp, youll get that hum being picked up by the amp and sent into the speakers.

To fix this youll need to get a short extension lead & cut the earth line and plug the power supply into it or get a plug that isolates the earth from the power supply.

  • LOL someone gave me one of them it rocks

  • haha I use a gateway too! I thought i was the only one! I really need a mca though, Traktor struggles pretty badly sometimes!

  • i got a $40 set of altec lansing headphones from target that came with a USB dongle soundcard. thats what i use for the secondary output on my laptop :)

  • does mixmiester take music off of itunes??

  • Any idea what the milli-volt output is from the headphone jack and the sound card?

  • 10 tunes in 5 minutes? How about play 2 amazing tunes in 10 minutes that no-one has and everyone wants. Everyone can mix nowadays, the quality of your tunes will get you noticed

  • what headphones were those? you mentioned them in one of your videos but i forgot witch one :(

  • i think denon hp1000

  • ya i found em. thanks though :)

  • what is a good mixer to use for starting out / new dj'S

  • what ever you can afford. Numark and Gemini make a few cheap ones which are decent.

  • Dont go with 5.25" CDRs, get business card type 3.5" CDR - plenty of room for demo but smaller and fits into a business card sized space and plays in standard CD/DVD players

  • i used to use these buy now i use lightscribe cds for the pro finish. many of my clients have mentioned that they prefer the more pro look, its a lot better than printing or fiddling with push labels

  • You mean you get Lightscribe coated business card CD's?? I didnt know anyone carried the 3" round and business card media in Lightscribe (has to have a coating to allow the laser to burn the top surface). I'll have to look around and see if I can locate a source unless you're willing to post here or PM to me (Youtube wont allow URLs in comments)

  • sorry i didn't mean lightscribe coated business card discs! that would be perfect ! i use normal disks, on amazon its £6.49 for a 25 disk cakebox and £2.99 for 100 sleeves.

  • it takes 30minutes for 1 cd tho!!!

  • its not an intensive task, just set it to go and about 26 mins later you have a disc ready. you dont have to stop using your pc or watch it the whole time

  • heey Brian.

if i plug my laptop in onto my mixer via that mini jack to rca cable i often/(near always) get a TERRIBLE buzzing noise.

do you (or anyone else here on youtube) have a suggestion about how to solve that problem?

  • You should get a usb interface (audiocard) that should stop that buzzing

  • is it plugged in when you use it? because i use to have the same problem

  • You can either use a ground loop isolator and a couple of adaptors if needed from the laptop to your mixer. These isolators are usually used for car audio. They stop the alternator and ignition noise through amplifiers. May not kill the noise completely but will greatly reduce PC noise. Also check your AC power. Unplug your AC adapter from your laptop and raise your volume levels to see if the noise goes away. If the noise goes away then consider running all equip through a power conditioner.

  • be warned if ur laptop is not a intel usb chipset if u use a usb sound card your audio will cut in and out sometimes.

  • hey were do you buy your desk were you put the mixer and vinys??

ive looked for them every were in Austin

  • HI nice video!!mi question is,i'm practicng with virtual dj on my desktop computer, i'm abeginner, and later i want to buy alaptop, what sound card do you recomend me? to use on my desktop and if i buy the laptop i can use on that too,and also no expensive but a good one, please help me with that, my frien wants me to play at his house!! i need help thank you!!

  • there are several solutions for usb soundcards,

there is the maya 44, ideal for virtual dj in timecode mode, in my country (the netherlands) it costs €108,-

or you could buy a numark DJ I/O (€99,-) but that one is not for timecode

also you could buy 2 behringer U-control UCA- 202's (€24,- a piece) i have one of those and i use it only to listen to my headphones but i heard two of those should work just fine (i don't know about their timecode capabilities)

  • Hi! Brian, this is Kris from Hong Kong! I'm pretty confused about the connection between laptop to my 2 channel external mixer. Should I go for USB sound interface (E.g. Numark DJiO) or just connect with 2 mic jack to RCA cables and the mini usb sound card that you suggested in your video? BTW, I'd like to use the cross fader on my external mixer.

    Pls advice!

  • really like your videos...

big gig coming up and, wanted to hookup two dj booths together.

should i just conect his output to one of my line ins???

  • Wow harsh crittic. This is my old stuff. If you are at all intirested in DJ stuff, you may like my newer vids.

  • cool. sorry, just being real. thanks for helping people out.

  • @briansredd i hooked up my dj stuff like the way you did and this was my 3rd mobile gig and i whent to putt to rca steio mini jacke piece out of head phone jack and the metal piece broke and fell out.

  • just show your video... quetion what program are you using on this video!!! djm

  • yea, i think it's cool the way you decide to set up your DJ, i'm using virtual dj and i think its cool but i need a soundcard, what store i can buy that???? and what kind of mixer you recomend??? and one more thing, you should buy some lights, that makes a cool effect and with that i think you are ready man, your pretty good on that, good luck my friend d:-)

  • the new track was lil bit faster:)

  • so your soundcard is like your amp and speakers from your laptop.

  • im having trouble finding audio cards for laptops. id prefer to buy it in a store. where did you buy yours?

  • what mixer are u using

  • It's the Behringer VMX-300 ;-)

(I got the VMX-200 as a back-up, really nice to start DJ'ing with!)

  • nice mix but you look like you are chekin emails its all a bit boring compared to cdj's or records

  • hey imma get a new laptop soon and wanted to know wat i need to start djing for partys and all that. like wat program and equipment should i use?

  • Virtual Dj

  • and what would be some decent equipment? know any sites?

  • vdj, a usb mixer, an amp and some speakers, preferably a case for the mixer laptop and amp

  • hey i wanted to know if there is any program that i can use to be a dj with a mac laptop

  • virtual dj, virtual vinyl, rane serato scratch, numark bla bla bla, mixmeister fusion,...

If you want to go pro: ableton live, cubase4, fl studio, logic pro, ...

You really have a million of choices to choose from.

  • virtual Dj also works with MAC

  • what he says at 9.06 minutes can be done with for example the behringer UCA202 external card and via the numark djIO (however the numark djIO is rather expensive compared to my card(the UCA202) that costs only about 50 dollars)

  • ha ha ha

  • i bought a usb sound card and i cant separate them my pc sound card and my usb sound card in the traktor dj3 it only accepts the pc sound card. but in Virtual DJ there is no problem with that how can i make it work on Traktor

  • hey wzup i just wanted to ask you whats the best pc mixing dj software out there? right know im using virtual dj with a cue station is working pretty good im doing house & trance i have pass my cds to a couple of producers and djs like Tom Colontonio the said im pretty good but i just wanted to know if anything better out there?

  • Hi Brian, awesome videos. Thanks for posting. With all this talk about soundcards, are they definitely superior to the internal built in soundcards in PCs or Macbooks? I plug in my laptops from minijack straight to my mixer's RCA jack and it sounds okay to me. Thanks again for terrific info!

  • YAE_E_E_E_E!!!!

  • hey brian very helpful video!!but i wanna know if it really needs a soundcard to start mixin music from a laptop or it's just optional?

  • i bought a usb sound card and i cant separate them my pc sound card and my usb sound card in the traktor dj3 it only accepts the pc sound card. but in Virtual DJ there is no problem with that how can i make it work on Traktor

  • hey brian, who makes those headphones?

  • hey i pickied a random vid of some one who knows how to use a computer, i can't get videos to play on my labtop. i put a little card in from my camera and then i click the vid, but only the noise comes up not the video. so could you just message me bac to kinda help get this to work. please

  • Too me this seems like cheating. Maybe I'm just old school.

  • What about volume controll and eq'ing frequencies in the mix?

  • i think different.why don't you split each deck for a sound card or for the different output on the sound card if it has multiple out's and use the mixer as if you had turntables or cd's.i think it is better that way.give it a shot and if you have time give me a shout on what you think!thanks!

  • Looks like he's using Mixmeister that's why he can't use separate channels for each track. He needs to get some PROPER dj software for external mixer support. You don't even need 2 soundcards. When I first started digital mixing, I used PCDJ Blue (1998) which had support for 2 soundcards, or even mono-separated stereo channels where you can assign channel 1 to main-out LEFT and channel 2 to main-out RIGHT. Stereo is not needed for live gigs. The music is too loud to notice the difference.

  • hey could i pick your brains, i am wanting to go into digital djing as i dont have big enough funds to buy hardware based dj equipment. what i was wondering is you say you can put one channel through left and one through right, is it possible to to put one side through headphones and other side through laptop speakers? your help would be greatly appreciated

  • i am wanting to get into digital djing as i dont have big enough funds at the moment to buy cd turntables. What i was wondering is it possible to play one side through headphones ans the other through speakers so i can cue tracks. Sorry if i sound a lil novice lol your help would be greatly appreciated

  • you will need two sound cards in your computer. one for the audience and one for your headphone.

  • cheers for the help my friend

  • Some newer model laptops have built-in multichannel soundcards. If your laptop can assign jacks for different purposes then you won't need a 2nd soundcard. Assign the mic input to rear output (do this through soundcard software) then in your DJ software, assign headphone to rear channel. Normal output stays the same.

  • Continued... If your laptop doesn't have assignable jack points, then you will have to get a multichannel soundcard for headphone functionality. Or get a budget mixer if you don't have much money. The Numark DXM01-USB is a great mixer for it's price. Both a mixer and has built-in soundcards, 2 USB ports both act as independent soundcards.

  • How about an interface. USB or Firewire.

  • I like to use Firewire for my audio break-out box and for my external harddisk, as it has higher bandwidth than USB and Firewire eats less processor cycles than USB for same task.

    Just my 2 cents.

  • Firewire 1 has a max bandwidth of 400mbps, USB2 is 480mbps. Not entirely sure on your logic? Depending on the number of devices you have attached to the same USB bus, and USB version, it will limit the throughput of your attached device(s). I too use firewire but not because of it's bandwidth, it's just because my laptop has only 4 USB ports and each port is used up with a different device. 2 are used with my Numark DXM01-USB & 2 for CDJ-400 control.

  • what dj software on your computer are you using?

  • briansredd: thank you for the video, but i am wondering why not skip purchasing a sound card and mixer and buy a receiver which you can then have running from the headphone jack into the back of the receiver via rca cables and out through speakers connected to the receiver? it seems more affordable..? i suppose you can't mix with headphones however..

  • I havent used it on the road next gig will be my first, with the notebook, I have Mix Meister Fusion and to be honest I think its great and i havent touched all what it can do. im just going to use it like a cdj and plug it into the 3rd channel you can then just keep adding to the track channel or change over to CD then back nice...handy when you need a WEE!

  • pretty kool ....thanks for the tipz....

  • is there any free software you would recomend i could use? i am looking at getting a new laptop very soon is there any particular things i should look for if i wanna do this sort of stuff?

  • yes get KRAMIXER just google it its free and is very decent k? DO NOT GET NUMARK Q ANY ONE IT SUCKS not to mention it doesent work with xp or vista very well...

  • I bought one of these little usb plugs and the latency is quite high so it's cheap but not very pro. so very good for beginners

On a pc with 5.1 soundcards ( for instance sound blaster live which is the most common soundcard) you can configure the line in as a way out for rear speakers.By this way just configure your dj software ( in my case traktor or djdecks ) with the good outputs and it's ok !

but the latency will be quite high too.

  • I you like this you can find an "ESI Gigaport AG" for about a hundred bucks it has a USB plug at the end of a cable coming out of your laptop and rca jacks right on the card that you can connect to your mixer with RCA's (phono plugs) Had one for about 3 years now no problems.

  • With a name like that, I'm surprised you even forked out for an ESI Gigaport AG when Numark has a VERY decent mixer/soundcard. I.e. the Numark DXM01-USB. It has 2 USB outputs which both act as independent soundcards

  • Stop whoring yourself for Numark. Let people decide for themselves. I get enough advertising in my daily life, and I don't need it from YouTube comments.

  • why dont you just spend a lil more money and buy a midi with a soundcarD????????
