The riot shields in this game piss me off. First you can't use it in conjunction with a pistol but enemies can. Second, they're freaking invincible! I remember picking up a 50 cal sniper rifle thinking that it would help against shielded enemies (A 50 cal can punch through solid steel by the way) and having it do nothing.

The first place you can do it is on the No Russian mission. As soon as you take out the first wave of Riot shields, pick one up and bash someone from the next wave. You could also do it on the Terminal Spec Ops mission.

The gulag level isn't the first one that you can use a riot shield in. At the beginning of the game when you're with all of the russian's and you're killing all the civilians in the mall/airport thing when you go outside there's a bunch of riot cops and you can kill them and then use their shields to hit people.
