I've found the best way to convince someone that BJJ (or 10th planjj) is superior to their lethal street fighting techniques is to have them fight u. simply saying u can punch/kick/knee/elbow etc and i wont strike u ill only use my jiu jitsu techniques. it works
It's amazing that it's 2012 and there are still a lot of people that think bjj is useless in a street fight. Brazil is a wild country. A lot of dangerous areas. Since the 1920s, the Gracie family and countless other Brazilians have fought using bjj IN THE STREETS.
hahahahahahaha!! Ju -Jitsu if USELESS!!!! I want to see this guy in a real fight. Not some controlled MMA cage fight, but the real thing. All this gay grabbing would get him knocked out in the street. Grow up and start striking!! Kempo Forever!
@Tigerstyle1981 Wow. Is this a 14 year old trolling attempt? I have a couple of kempo black belts that train with me and they are very open minded and know the importance of jiu jitsu and ground fighting.
@Submissions101 I have been running a Dojo for the past 4 1/2 years. I am 30. I have been studying Kempo for the past 10. I grew up on the west side of San Antonio TX, a place that would make most of you shit yourselves. I have had enough experience in street fights to know that if you try to grab up on someone, his buddy will still be kicking you in the head. I was in a mood when I left that last comment, but it doesnt change the fact that it is true.
@Tigerstyle1981 Well, you made a complete blanketed statement about the whole art of Jiu Jitsu. It is ridiculous to think that you are spreading misinformation and general hate for other arts to your students. I've been bouncing for 17 years and I've used jiu jitsu more times that I can count. It is taught to police departments. Your lack of understand of even the basic concepts of jiu jitsu is alarming. I am WELL aware of street level confrontation. Just shameful.
@Tigerstyle1981 Obviously your not a true martial artist. Your just an ingnorant person who obviously has no experience with ground fighting. If you went against a real grappler with his whole body wrapped around him, making it unnable for you to punch or kick. Your defenseless.
@Tigerstyle1981 Actually when it is drilled into muscle memory it is both effective in street fighting and hand 2 hand combat. - Neither of which have you ever experienced i'm betting.
@Tigerstyle1981 With respect, no art is 'useless' - they all teach confidence and the importance of thought in a situation - In my dojo my students are taught respect for all other martial arts, apparently Kempo does not. Jiu Jitsu allows for varying degrees of response to a threat, striking arts do not - Keith can hold a hysterical teenager safe and immobile until they calm down; you would have to batter them to submission. Young man, you've learned Kempo now learn respect.
@Tigerstyle1981 HAHAHAHAHAH! LOL KEMPO! OMFG U SERIOUS?! U KEMPO SUCKS DICK U FAG, kempo only fight like how you learn u noob, every fight end on the ground so u better get ur grip on and stop whining and grow up and stop being childish for saying ur sport is better than every other one,
This helped haha i impressed everyone in my Grappling class because it was my 2nd day grappling they put me with some dude thats been there for 4 years then out of nowhere bam flying armbar
i was just wondering if you could post a no gi version?! :D i did bjj b4 im 13 i stopped about 3 years a go because of bad knees and i got the ok to start again and i usuallly competted in no gi tournaments. my favourite submission is the armbar.
@adamsbeer Then those 1 chances happen more than you know. My student Red pulled of 3 flying armbars in one competition. We have the reel up on our page if you'd like to see
@Sikke107 Maybe 1 in 1000 was a poor choice of words. I think its safe to say that any flying attack, including armlocks, is at best a low percentage move.
@adamsbeer I've actually managed to pull this off pretty consistently, but flying moves generally tend to work out better for smaller players. It helps if you know how to set up your opponent as well.
@adamsbeer Last year at NAGA I tried it in No-gi and he escaped, but I did get points for the attempt. Later in Gi division I nailed the guy in less than 10 seconds. So according to my experience it is more like 1 in 2.
This is just another comment telling about the same thing, how good of a teacher Keith Owen is. Great stuff, keep it up, you're awesome and so on. Blah blah blah.
thank's..i've tried this last week and i kicked my teacher in the head:)::((poor him...that was nasty...thank you very much...thanks to you my teacher will survive another figt...
i really like this video. it shows how to do the technique in detail and a way how to safely practice it, when i tried doing this move i kicked my friend in the head... hard lol i needed to learn how to practice it without killing my friends lol
Hi, I am wondering how to get really good grip strength. I was told a technique of throwing your gi over a bar and doing pullups holding your gi. Is there any other techniques you guys use please?
Great move, but if we wanna do this, must uke hold our leg?. I see more practical put the right leg on his abdominal and then kick the other leg over his head finishing in jiuji.
for all practical purposes...bjj is judo. as was said, the difference is one of emphasis. bjj/ground ...judo/throws. but they both contain both throws and grappling techniques.
eu não gostei dessa posição sou particante de jiujitsu aqui no brasil e pra min essa posição vc facilita demais o esmagamento, e passagem pra sair do armlock !
Awsome breakdown and explanation of this move. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this clip. It defenitly explained at lot for me. 5 star rating from me.
This is one of the bset turorials because it shows how to drill rather than just jumping right into a technique. A lot of these wanna be submission 101 people, lol, will just go right into. But this is why u guys are great, drilling is always better than just going right into something.
the best way to do a flying arm bar is when you openent grabs you deep cross collar and thats when you secure the arm put you foot in his hip and then through your other leg over his head. i did that yesterday : )
i think in andre limas movie trailer beyond the ring he does this move it looks very difficult to do in a real fight situation, lets it to ju jitsu training sessions lol, awesome vid.
The variation which I know is slightly different, because you turn before you swing up your leg. It requires some more flexibility to do though, but I'm flexible. :D

And I wouldnt recomend trying it outside of round 1, far too slippery and sweaty to do this. Good luck in your fight.
When he jump he isnt grabing the opponent´s arm for the armbar, he do that only when he has his back on the ground. Is it effective to do it that way?, maybe its easy for the opponent to pull out his arm?.
In a fight your opponent doesn't tend to help you.
