Hi, man, it is not about being selfish. I guess the reason is the lyric can be interpreted that a man is about to leave his girlfriend and never comes back probably, you know that is not easy for woman. Your wife may be afraid that one day you could walk out as the lyrics describes, so she wouldn't translate for you. like a censorship.
