John and Yoko found this very funny so were didnt feel insulted in any way. John Felt a bit uncomfortable about the Nazi connection but eventually got the joke there.
@allyplumb well it's quite fitting since most Beatle fans equate Yoko to a "nazi" who broke up the Beatles. i think they give her too much power. the boys most likely had it up to here with each other, and who are we to judge? :))
@DJJuanitoFresh but of course! how could i forget??? the summer of hits like All You Need Is Lunch and Can't Cater Love first performed in New Deli... those were the salad days!
This is so absolutely funny, I can hardly keep my eyes dry. This is parody at its best, somehow even revealing. I wonder if John Lennon saw this and what his reaction was. Of course the figure of Chastity was very provoking for Yoko Ono...
@espressoschmeckt Yes, I thought the same thing. Everyone knows that McCartney hated the Rutles and wanted to sue them, but Lennon loved the Rutles. When some Rutles documentry was sent to Lennon for viewing before it aired, Lennon refused to give it back because he liked it so much. But this scene with Chastity being a Nazi...I wonder if Lennon "got it"? I'm sure he probebly did.
"Because basically we've talked it over, Chastity and Myself, and we've come to the conclusion that civilization was no more than a well managed sewage system"
So well thought out in the humorous parallels! ...Because Japan was an axis power during WWII, and its modern political structure from the 1870s borrowed ideas after [pre-Nazi era] Germany's. Yoko's family came from this new, post-Shogunate elite - her grandfather was among the few that propelled Japan's financial growth into the 20th century, bankrolling the emerging zaibatsus. But she herself walked away from performativity of her family's expectations, taking a flight into the arts" instead.
@Merseyrock I kept expecting a joke- but youve obviously researched your facts very well-and I LOVE being taught something interesting-I believe I will have to get out my Rutles DVD and watch it again-
@TheEDZEPPELINBAND I´m pleased to hear, TheEd...thank you! Of course - to end all those facts with a punch-line would make the perfect comment. (I´m not that witty, though ;-) ...Then again, another bit of trivia you might find interesting. I read on wikipedia that John had once seen a picture of Yoko´s great-grandfather [not grandfather!...I correct myself above] to whom I allude to, above - and casually remarked, ¨He looks like me!¨ Yoko replied, ¨Don´t say that ' he was assassinated!¨
Lennon did love this film. The people who think the idea behind this is to slag off Yoko are missing the point. What is being done is making fum of the people who actually slag her off!
If you take the Y ,the o,the k and the o out of yoko, and replace them with five random letters,it's possible to get h-i-t-l-e-r............or maybe nothing at all.......
Lennon allegedly loved this. Innes nails circa-69 Lennon. Absolutely deadin- you can tell that Innes and Gwen Taylor are stifling their own laughter here.
This video was made and filmed in Leavenworth, WA to avoid reaction by jews and non-whitesand that person in the Nazi Uniform was actually Ronald Reagan, an experienced actor who became Adolf Hitler #2!!!! The Pretentoius Gallery is actually in Leavenworth, WA and that Chasity girl may have been a resident of Leavenworth, WA
FYI, this is a parody movie about the Beatles, mostly shot in London England aroud 1978. Ronald Reagan is not in this picture, or within at least 3,000 miles of it.
There IS no Pretentious Gallery, it's a parody of modern art galleries. Chastity is not a real person either. Do you not get the humo(u)r? Is it a bit too hot where you're stationed and you've gone Deolali?
Chastity remains to this day a pompous, pretentious self publicist whose musical output with The Ceramic Hitler Band, founded in 1969, was dire. The only song of theirs that anyone knows is Happy Easter (Lent is Over)
They met and announced their engagement - next day! Classic. I've been a fan of this film since it first came out back in 78. Much more entertaining than The Beatles Anthology!
@brianpadraic John thought it was funny! In fact, when all this Rutles material was sent to him (for approval), he liked it so much he refused to send it back! George liked it all too, he thought it was funny jab at them "in a loving way" It was Paul who disapproved, and John warned them that Paul might 'try and sue them". Pauls wife Linda thought it was all funny, and he eventually changed his mind about it.

Like any good Rutles fan, I HATE CHASTITY......and I think that's proved by the fact that NOBODY listens to the group she and Nasty founded in 1969, The Ceramic Hitler Band
This is hilarious, I could not stop laughing! This is a great spoof of the Beatles. Is the whole movie on Youtube? I'm going to search for it now. This is marvelous, so funny!

I wish this had been done in the early seventies while that pretentious twat Lennon was puffing his chest up indignantly. I still remember the deathly silence from his corner while Pol Pot was burning Cambodia back to the stone age in the mid seventies
This was just before Nasty and Chastity founded the Ceramic Hitler Band in 1969. Their albums were unadulterated shite. Give Peas a Chance and Happy Easter (Lent is Over) are the only CeramicHitler Band song anyone knows, the latter assaulting our ears every March-April just to sell choccolate eggs. Nice one Ron.
@rabidgoldfish65 I disagree. While Chastity didn't help matters, the departure of Leggy Mountbatton was the event that led to the breakup of The Rutles. Without Leggy, they were never the same.
Nasty likely caused the disintegration of The Rutles. Perhaps if Nasty's infatuation with the rebellious Chastity could have been channeled into more positive contributions, The Rutles would still be around today. Hey, if the Stones and Keith Richards are still performing, why couldn't The Rutles? The Rutles filled the musical potholes that the Beatles blindly drove over.
Nasty and Chastity went on to found the awful Ceramic Hitler Band which produced alot of pretentious tripe. In fact the only well known Ceramic Hitler Band song was the teeth grinding single.....Happy Easter (Lent is Over) in 1972. Some of Nasty's solo stuff is alright though... my favourites were
Come on Nasty had way more songs then that! Give Beets a Chance? Explosive Comic? Burnt Chicken? Gimme some Food? Much better then Dirk's Career in the 70's I mean: Sand in the Sun Aunt Sisilia(Lady Hefter) Senior's Prom Let her eat Pie Moving On All good Hits, but I still like Nasty Better. I Also think Stig was better then Dirk. But that's another day.
@TomthatiscalledTom I agree that the Ceramic Hitler Band released plenty of mediocre material as the 70's dragged on. But even you have to admit that Nasty's performance of "Rod" from the 1st album (Ceramic Hitler Band), when he sings "I don't believe in Rutles" had to put a chill up your spine.
John Belushi played Nasty's agent (or producer, I can't remember which) and Bill Murray played DJ (Bill) Murray the K which was based on a real-life DJ named Murray the K!
LOL this is one of the funniest clips ive ever seen. All You need is Cash is one of the most brilliant satires in cinema. I am a huge beatles fan and all 4 of them were alive during the film and they enjoyed it too.
You do realise that Eric Idle and Neil Innes wrote this- it's not just satire, it's a deliberately absurd parody. Anyone can hopefully see that if it's taking the proverbial, it's doing it with affection.
Yes, ggsua, your guy lost in 1968 and Nixon won that one. That's regrettable, but it's ancient history. If you don't like this sort of comedy, pass onto something else.
In the directors commentry to this, Eric notes that John and Yoko were impressed with the Rutles. Eric was the python closeest to the Beatles especially george so was using reliable information. ps.the woman playing yoko is gwen taylor who plays @aunt peg@ in Heartbeat. She was highly regarded by the pythons and also appeared in Ripping yarns and the life of brian " dont pick yer nose"..
nice 2 find out that chastity is leggys mum. i knew she was a young hot bird playin an old woman. the leggys mum bit has to be my fave bit. just her pronunciation of letter Ts at the end of words. an the way she knows its hillarious and is nearly craccking up all the way thru. maybe the mick jagger bits are as gud. but leggys mum rules.
Did you know that "Chastity" (Ron Nasty's wife) is also Leggy Mountbattan's mother earlier in the film? She's the one talking about the Rutle's tight trowsers. It's Gwen Tayor.

nice 2 find out that chastity is leggys mum. i knew she was a young hot bird playin an old woman. the leggys mum bit has to be my fave bit. just her pronunciation of letter Ts at the end of words. an the way she knows its hillarious and is nearly craccking up all the way thru. maybe the mick jagger bits are as gud. but leggys mum rules.

Did you know that "Chastity" (Ron Nasty's wife) is also Leggy Mountbattan's mother earlier in the film? She's the one talking about the Rutle's tight trowsers. It's Gwen Tayor.
