  • @eddiebear100 Yes, I quite agree. It's 1955 and I am seven years old again, listening to my grandma's wind-up gramophone. Never laughed so much in years. Many thanks to UpMyOwn for giving us this priceless piece of nostalgia!

  • a pure classic, the 26 dislikes are lady gaga lovers daft

  • I was just a young child, maybe 7 years old, back in the early 50s, living in Chalfont St Giles, Buckinghamshire. I loved the laughing policeman best of all: have never forgotten him: singing along with him, rolling around on the sitting room floor in complete hysterics.

Nobody to share it with, my mother busy in the kitchen. It was the best thing I had knew at the time, totally and brilliantly FUNNY!!

  • brillaint song always chhers me up

  • Thanks to people like you, meanwhile you can find almost everything on YouTube you have been looking for. Thank you very much!

  • There wouldn't have been too many laughing policemen last week!

  • There actually were policemen like this once. Wouldn't it be nice to have them back.

Not a soft touch, just real people with a sense of proportion.

  • U MAD BRO?

  • Various comics and quiz show 'personalities' have tried to perform this song - one or two even recorded it but soon were forgotten - this is the one and only definitive version I first heard it as a nipper and loved it ever since - good old Char - lie!

  • I like the part where he laughs

  • My Grandma gave me this record on 78 rpm & said "now be carefull because it will break if you are not carefull with it" I placed it beside me on the couch & Grandad came in the room & sat on it ! That was about 1969 ish.

  • 23 people with no sense of humour arnt laughing.

  • fuck da police

  • @zxl345 its humour from 1922, do you expect to find it funny in 2011?

  • @ricardocummins1988 Just because something's old, doesn't necessarily mean it can't still be funny!

  • @Inkyminkyzizwoz I know but my point is that a lot of the funnyness would be lost on different generations

  • @Inkyminkyzizwoz Well said! Laurel & Hardy is another example of this.

  • @ricardocummins1988

actually yes, its about someone not taking themselves too seriously. A gift not practiced anywhere near often enough.

  • My dad used to use this song to laugh at John Major's scandals and misfortunes when he was in government. :)

  • I heard this song at work, and it made me...well...laugh! Decided to look for it, wasn't easy to find but I'm happy I did :D Love it.

  • ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. I'm no particular friend of the fuzz, but it still makes me laugh. Coppers were likeable characters in those times. Bit different today !.

  • The poor policeman likely suffered a mental defect of some description.

  • So funny!.....They dont laugh anymore...lol

  • What an inventive song, and amazingly upbeat! I think we have a treatment for depression right here. Christ my ribs are aching after this song!

  • What an inventive song, and amazingly upbeat! I think we have a treatment for depression right here.

  • I laugh like this but just in a higher tone ha :')

  • Laughcore dude. Shit is so cash.

  • i loved the bit when he laughed.

  • I love this song, especially if Robert Smith sings it... he makes everything depressing LOL XD

  • My father told me my grandmother used to live beside a neighbour she hated. So when the neighbour died she played this song out the window as their coffin passed by! :o lol

  • @zxl345 G-MAN ! I've found you ! Come back here !

  • I was fortunate to have a dear friend with a great sense of humour and it was his dying wish that this song was played at his funeral. I have never witnessed so many people laughing at such a solemn time? He would have really appreciated it.... God bless you my dear friend, I am sure that you are making heaven a much happier place......

  • years ago on most saturday nights in my local club , one of the village characters would get up on the stage , take his false teeth out ,put on a coppers helmet ,sing this song and bring the bloody house down with laughter!!

we laughted with him , not at him (even the miserable ones)

(sigh) the good ol days 8 pints of Tetleys bitter for a quid and alls right with the world

  • I`ll have this at my funeral....should cheer em up along with paying the bar bill at the wake.....

  • Are you sure playing this isn't forbidden by the Geneva Convention?

  • I used to hear this every week at the end of the Heavy Metal Disco at the Castle in Richmond (Surrey, UK) - everyone would form a ring and can-can. Great way to end a night and meant everyone went out with a smile on their face (probably stopped a few fights kicking off on the way home as well). Local police probably wondered why all the bikers were grinning at them as we came out!

  • @middleagemiddleclass WOW, The Castle, Have not thought of that in 40 odd years, we probably knew each other

  • @zxl345 90's.....are you insane? 90's was the age of boybands....

  • im having this at my funeral :)

  • So cheerful! It's a pity there's nothing like it these days.

  • @zxl345 well those comments have a point you know

  • Interesting Fact:

When the British went to Nigeria to colonize it, they used this record to try to communicate with natives who did not know English.

  • Why do I keep seeing the Joker?

  • @mackeymkay Me too! I see the Joker giving someone a severe "telling off" with this music playing in the background :-/

  • Cute!

  • i was having a drink while listing to this, my juice is now all over the wall :L XD

  • @zxl345 Have a little respect for song that was made in the 1920's when people were far better educated and polite than they are now. That was a gentle age of music, no gangstas shoving their boom-boom music in our face with their comical hand-signals and violent lyrics.

  • haha nice :D hahahahaha...

  • F-u-n-n-y.....hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  • Great song, also heard in an episode of the 1990's sitcom 'One Foot In The Grave'.

  • @zxl345 A song of this nature is just there, it doesn't ask for or warrant any intellectual discusion...

  • 15 people are victims of police brutality.

  • Before Pirate Radio and Radio One in UK, believe it or not this song was regular children's daytime radio fare..now it's something like "Get Down Bitch " or something similar. Oh well, innocence lost. (Then the Beatles came and the rest is history..)

  • This video shouldn't have a dislike button, it's just one of those things that nobody can hate. Really, how can you not laugh at this? It just makes you feel better after a bad day, or if you just want a good laugh. :)

  • sounds like a scary laugh you see on the old black and white cartoons

  • Whizzes me back to Uncle Mac! Love the 'do wacka do wacka' bits!

  • the 15 people who disliked this video broke there jaws laughing at this song

    (:

  • The sound quality is very good. Obviously an electric recording.

  • Apparently a favorite of John Lennon.

  • how could people press dislike on this song, how? I can not fathom it.

The 'dislike' button should not apply to this song

  • incredible :D love it :D hahahaha

  • thank you charles jolly for such an amazing piece of music :D

  • This song is guaranteed to put a smile on literally anyone's face. :)

  • This song should be an anthem for a certain Community Support Officer. He and I get on very, very well especially if he supported me when I was a victim of anti-social behaviour.

  • This recording is just hours younger than the Queen, having been recorded (in London) on 22nd April 1926 and the Queen having been born (also in London) on 21st April 1926.

Not a lot of people know that !!!!!

  • where could 14 dislikes possibly come from

  • @Spamma222 I could ask the very same question. After all, this is pretty damn cheerful, isn't it?

  • @Spamma222 policemen with no sense of humour.

  • this song is so amazing!

  • Thumbs up if you found this song accompanying the destruction of the towers of WTC... :-)

  • Great memories - Thank you.

  • @seanreillyireland: Thanks for sending this to me, mate & thank you again to UpMyOwn for uploading such a classic song.

  • Never tell God your plans!!!

I think he might be Charley Penrose!!!

    It's just wonderful!

  • What people sing when Newcastle United get beat

  • This song is a laugh...literally!
