  • much safer to spray a paper towel with the no stick spray and then wipe it on the grill...helps avoid those flare ups

  • I did 2 minutes on the fish side, and then 8 minutes on the skin side - skin came off clean, but fish was still a little raw. :( I had my burners on low though - I'll leave them on Medium next time.

  • @titoortiz your grill has to be HOT . . . burners shouldn't be on low . . . mine are on HIGH.

  • me so hungry

  • DUDE I JUST USED UR VIDEO! TURNED OUT PERFECTLY! THANKS SOO MUCH!

  • @gwennerjt glad it helped.

  • You can eat it raw. BE A JAPANESE NOOBS!

  • @TheViolinIce No, YOU can eat it raw.

  • I keep fucking burning and drying mine the fuck out!!!! ugh. im done tryn with salmon fuck it

  • @davidgalindo07 cook it less!

  • @mreae well i might come out raw!! im afraid it will so i leave it longer and than fucking dries!!! ugh!!!

  • @davidgalindo07 the trick is to time it until you get it right with your grill. If you're cooking it 7 minutes (like I say in the vid) and it's burning and coming out dry, then your grill is hotter than mine or your steaks are thinner. Try 6 minutes. But obviously you have to cook yours less. Better to have it a little undercooked than overcooked.

  • @mreae ok well im using a george foreman grill thats all i got!!! i dont have a gass grill or anything!! my steaks come out perfect on the foreman grill but my salmon always dries!!!!

  • LOL! The trick to NOT having the fire or flare up (gas grill) when you spray your grill with non stick spray is, turn off the flames for a second.

  • @ckeriklyman that's too simple

  • Your method is fantastic. Worked beautifully for us - thank you sir.

  • Worked perfectly for us tonight. Thanks, we will be using this method again.

  • Where is the taste button?

  • @mreae: yes, but not as fun as fireworks or firearms!!! nice trick leaving the skin behind on the grate...i have the fish guy skin mine. does it stink up the grill burning the skin onto the grate?

  • @allahgoatlover My grill smells good! But I always clean it when done . . .

  • @ nuisance: the spray propellant in the nonstick spray is flammable.

  • @allahgoatlover yes, it's obviously more fun as a result

  • Brilliant! Worked perfectly. My non-stick method is paper towel with canola then run a cut onion over the grill. Also, charcoal is better!! ;)

  • @leeannmorg Nice non-stick method! I'll have to try it.

  • Love when he goes "she's doesn't like fish"... Great tips too.

  • @khodges2 Well, she sorta like salmon now. I can get her to take a few bites of halibut too. Rockfish? No. Lingcod? No. Etc.

  • Yum. My first attempt at salmon, and it worked perfectly. Simply delicious, Thanks for posting.

  • @macbookproguy glad to help.

  • Good video

  • @TheGatesTube thank you

  • skin is tasty

  • @TheStrayHotdog Yes, my dog loves it

  • wtf are you spraying?

  • @nuisance34 I searched my house for flammable substances, tested each one, then used the one that flamed the highest.

  • Thanks so much for this video, I have always loved grilled salmon, but could never make it myself. But now I can. I dont know if you have a Publix near you, but they sell a bourbon marinade that is out of this world. And for a sauce try plain lemon juice.

  • @rbneville I'll have to check out that bourbon marinade. Thanks for the tip.

  • This technique and timing worked perfectly. Now I need to get a good Marinade.

  • @madog5353 Well, I think I posted my yummy marinade in my "how to grill salmon perfectly part II" video

  • Thnx I grilled salmon for the first time today and your method worked perfect for me it looks and taste delicious

  • @KidCannon4407 I actually grilled some salmon today and I used some sorta oil instead of regular non-stick spray and the salmon STUCK. Dang. Tasted good but looked like crap. Stick with actual non-stick spray.

  • thanks!

  • Was that 7 minutes after you flipped it , or total? I know you said total but I wanted to double check. Looks great!!

  • @goforkt 7 minutes total. Good luck with it.

  • its funny how theres no food in my house and im hungry as f***... actually no its not, dammit im so hungry :(***

  • @iHsg16 that doesn't sound funny at all. That sounds miserable.

  • @mreae omg you're right! but i already said it wasnt funny in the comment lol

its ok though, at least you can read.. kind of

  • Thanks, this made it really easy!

  • @1975babydoll glad to help.

  • Slathering...word of the day.

  • @STILLNAKEDBULLWINKLE slather: Spread or smear (a substance) thickly or liberally ;)

  • Thank You

  • @SKState np

  • OMG"IT looks yummy

  • @78volka it is

  • Weber has some new spray that is not flamable and supposed to be used when the grill is hot.

  • @xxclixxx wow, what a great idea. I was actually looking for something that flamed up a bit higher . . . you know, to add to the fun factor.

  • @steakdogs I have the secret for your corn and the perfect recipe for seasoning. How can we discuss?

  • Just tried this. Had to put on for a couple more minutes but turned out awesome! thanks!

  • @dsballer2000 well, it all depends on the temp. on the grill. If your grill's a little cooler than my little cheapie, then a couple more minutes would be appropriate. It was still moist, not dried out, right?

  • Iv e just grilled some salmon yesterday and they turnout great !!!..I like the grill flavor...Thanks for the inf was very helpful...}

  • @DillonHammons Yes, cooking isn't so hard! Take that, Ramsey

  • thanks for the inf..

  • @garotadobr you're most welcome.

  • very helpfull thankyou.

  • @Turbojet21cp no problem. glad to help.

  • Well this doesn't really help me. Why don't you post a video about grilling corn perfectly? I've got all this sweet corn I want to grill

  • @steakdogs corn on the cob isn't my thing. Try a cookbook.

  • My grilling experience has been hot dogs and hamburgers. We were at my Son's house and I decided to grill salmon. Found this video and it seemed easy enough. Oh my, was this good. Thank you so much for posting this very easily to grill salmon video. Now I need to purchase a grill for myself since my Son lives 3 hours away.

  • @rick242113 Yep, it's easy. If you have half a brain you can do it. Make sure to have fun igniting the non-stick spray.

  • Thank you so much from Ireland on 4th July!!!!!!!!

  • @theboreenblog So cool. I'm half Irish.

  • I just did this and it worked exactly how you showed on the video. I used just a little butter, olive oil and salt and it was the best ever! 7 Minutes and done!

  • @deborahgolson so easy even my dad could do it

  • that guy loves slathering his sauce..

  • @99hackerz99 what guy?

  • @mreae hahahahah are you serious the only guy in the video -__-

  • @99hackerz99 Well, I'm not usually too serious but I AM serious that you should use unleaded fuel as a replacement for non-stick spray on your hot grill

  • @mreae what is the significance? i'm uninformed

  • @jaydaddyg the significance of what? Hope you liked the video.

  • wow. overcook is the best man, i like it that way too

  • @Worrall82 Yes, cook it for about 20 minutes per side and it will be perfect

  • if you dip a folded paper towel in oil and rub it on the grill with thongs before and after cooking, you could have not problems with it sticking

  • @AudiAMGBMW how completely boring but what a great idea

  • I was very pleased with this video. I had queried for how to successfully cook salmon on a gas grill. I tried the technique discribed here - high heat, flesh side, short time, then flip, longer time, then lift off the skin - and it worked perfectly. Very impressive. And my wife loves salmon and Pinot. Great success. Thank you.

  • @contefrederic nice summary. And thank you!

  • Best way to use spray oil is to just shut off the grill, spray the oil, then turn it back on.

  • @reln72 b-b-b-boring

  • I tried this today.. It worked well! Thanks!

  • @leafygreentree no problem

  • Comment removed

  • Um, some of us want to leave the skin on because we like it, what about that?

  • @jjk717 well, I can get the skin off when I'm done so I guess you can just take the salmon & skin off at the same time by sticking the spatula under the skin

  • @coeurdevenus no prob. had fun making the vid.

  • "if your salmon is dry, then you RUINED it!" Prick.

  • @j0ey4real apparently you dried your salmon out. lol

  • @mreae i didn't even try your shitty technique. As a matter of fact, I threw up in my mouth when I saw your final result. No wonder your wife doesn't eat it, shes trying to give you a hint that you can't cook fish.

  • @j0ey4real don't overcook the fish newbie

  • @TheLemonYogurt exactly

  • Hmmmm, my favorite Salmon bar b que.

  • @mar7dong glad you enjoyed it

  • Thank you so much for the video... made mother's day awesome!

  • @spazmonky547 great! love to hear comments like that.

  • try using some "grill wipes" perfect for a non stick grill and totally safe haha. im about to go try this, pretty confident after watching you do it with one hand.

  • @toasteroven3 Wow, that's a good idea. Grill wipes. Not so fun, but pretty smart.

  • I see you had the grill turned down before you opened the lid to remove the fish. Did you leave the grill on high during the five minute cook period? Just wondering at what point the grill gets turned down.

  • @JGFowler121 Hmmmm. I leave it on high the whole time.

  • @mreae Thanks! It must be higher flames at the beginning due to the no stick spray. I will deploy your method on Friday. Thanks for the info.

  • Like the Craftsman Spatula!

  • @RescuePits1 Yeah, it's cool

  • May I suggest brushing the grill with olive oil instead of dangerously spraying aerosol non-stick spray.

I just fold a paper towel into a square about 3" across, hold it with tongs, dip it in the oil and then brush the grill.

  • @DaleCarterStuff Shucks, that would take all the fun out of it.

  • Make sure to oil the skin side of the salmon (should be done before flipping), so when you turn it over, the skin does not stick to the grill. Also what helps is to flip the grill item on another portion of the grill, giving a chance to place the other side of the item on a clean and hot section of grill surface.

  • @rugged23WC Don't you dare oil the skin! It's supposed to stick to the grill at the end so you can use a spatula to take the salmon right off the grill (while leaving the skin behind). If the skin doesn't stick to the grill it's nearly impossible to get the spatula between the meat and the skin and the entire method is rendered non-special.

  • Salmon skin is delicious and nutritious! I can't believe you would let it go to waste like that. Crisp it up like bacon.

  • @androide01 Some people like it. The crazy ones.

  • Hats off for a great method!

    The salmon looks perfect!

  • @SmokeyGoodness thanks

  • Looks great!!

  • @TheVittleVlog it is great

  • my fish always sticks ... what is the best spray to keep the fish sticking from the grill?

  • @pcjudosambo the kind that flames up the most is the best. Just kidding. They actually make a non-flammable spray that you should try. Just make sure you get enough of it on the grill and get the fish on it quickly before it burns off & it'll work. I found that if I don't use enough the fish still sticks.

  • sounds like Dane Cook

  • @njbadapple who's that?

  • Thanks mrea, Love it man!! What sauce do you use? Is it a secret?

  • @Trakenstein My sauce is different every time so I can't really say. I usually use some lemon juice. Olive oil, maybe. Tabasco sometimes. I'm not a real cook my sauce is probably made with stuff that doesn't really go together. Oh, I use butter too. Sometimes I use salad dressing, like Cheese Fantastico or something like that. There you have it.

  • They make non stick spray for grills that does not ignite

  • @DadsLookingForDads You're right. But I prefer living dangerously

  • so u put the cooked fish were the raw fish was????not smart.

i liked ur dog though, just waitin for a piece to hit the ground

  • @think2wiceSDS Um, no. Take a look at the video and you'll notice that the time while the fish is being cooked is cut out. I went and got a clean plate during that time. I will repeat what you say - NEVER put the cooked fish into the plate in which you had the raw fish!

  • why take the skin off? the skin is amazing

  • @filipinomonster Some people like it and some don't. I don't.

  • ooh nice

  • @ONESNZER0S Thank you very much.

  • your a fucking idiot....you said for steaks that are about 3/4 inch thick...i cook in a kitcen every night and salmon that is 3/4 to an inch thick takes a lot longer than that idiot

  • @kronicbud52 If you're trying to say, "you are," then it's spelled "you're." You said you work in a kitcen. I'm not familiar with kitcens. Maybe you meant "kitchen." To properly use an ellipsis the periods should have spaces between them. The word "I" is always capitalized. If you said, "You are an idiot," then the word "idiot" wouldn't be capitalized. But if you said, "You did it wrong, Idiot," then it should be capitalized. And your name is spelled wrong, too. The word is "chronic."

  • Yummy! Great video... I'm going to try it. Thank you.

  • @botbotski I hope it comes out well for you.

  • what if you have 2 peices os salmon how long is it?

  • @luciarockkobe Ummm . . . it's the same amount of time. If you have thicker pieces, add a couple minutes. Thinner pieces . . . take away a minute or two.

  • Came out perfectly. Although I didn't need to use any spray, I just had enough oil on the salmon after having it marinate for awhile. Just used EVOO, some Emeril's Essence as a spice, and it was set to go.

May I suggest also grilling asparagus as a perfect complement to the fish. It's a similar approach - hot grill, marinated in olive oil, but use lemon pepper salt for the spice. About 4 minutes (easy to tell visually).

  • @InsultComicDog1 thanks for the comment! Nice to know the method works for some people. Since I made this video I have switched to using Webber's spray - and it doesn't flare up. How nice. Thanks for the idea about the asparagus. I have never grilled it and that sounds quite excellent! I can't wait to try it.

  • This method is the bomb! I tried it once about a year ago, and I have used this method every time since then! 2 lbs. of sockeye salmon are about to hit the grill in a few minutes, I can't wait! Thanks for the video!!

  • @Breakz23 It's the best way to grill salmon I've found. There are lots of other good ways too - they're just not this good! ;)

  • i have made this salmon twice now and it is the BEST salmon i have ever made or tasted. i marinated in a mango chipotle sauce the second time and it was amazing. my friend said the fish tasted like a $20 salmon meal eaten out. i will never grill salmon any other way now!

  • @kategraywriter Hey there, I appreciate the positive comment! I agree. And the best tasting salmon of all is a nice thick king salmon fillet. You should try it.

  • @kategraywriter By the way, you should post your mango chipotle sauce recipe!

  • Thanks for the info!

  • @jonS91 No problem. I like to cook, even though I obviously suck at it! ;)

  • Dude, you SO have no idea... First: NEVER EVER use flames, second NEVER EVER EVER EVER spray fat into flames and third always grill skin-side first...

  • @PbVeritas If I had to follow all your rules I'd never get to cook things my own way. I don't care about your way or the "right" way; I care about what tastes good to me. If everyone cooked the same way the world would be a boring place. This is my own method; I didn't read any books or take any classes . . . this is MY method and it works for me and everyone who eats my salmon raves about it. That's good enough for me. You can be a follower and cook things the "right" way. Have fun.

  • my god, you're a noob. that's not a barbecue and you aren't barbecuing the fish. gtfo

  • @timkick thank you for the positive vibes.

  • @mreae oh god, you're a hippy too?

  • @timkick God loves hippies too.

  • @mreae your proof, good sir?

  • dude !! you didn't throw the skin away, did you ? the skin is the best part :D sooo crispy ^^

  • @shadowspsp some people like it; but I think my dog likes it better than I do.

  • you over cooked them

  • @alonsolps lol

  • goodbye eyebrows

  • @c0uchsl0uch I'm sensing that I'm being made fun of

  • The little demon on my shoulder made me write this: It looksawesome and works well,, i like the part where the yucky skin stays on the grill and not on the fish, BUT,,, you reffered to it as Bar-B-Q-ing instead of grlling, you know BBQ is slow fire cook for long time, and grilling is high heat fast cooking and mostly done uncovere,, but yeh, Im gonnatry to use the leaving of the skin method. thanks great video,, and hope your wife liked it too...

  • @Timeport13 Yes, I've been told this a few times since I posted the video. I solemnly swear I will never say "Barbeque" when I mean to say "grill"

  • Hi loved your vidio but spraying non-stick aerosol close to open fire can cause a very serious injury. You should spray on cold grill before you turn grill on.

  • @LA2Alaska I agree. You should only do this if you're willing to risk burning your face off. Actually, if you do it when it's cold . . . it will burn completely off by the time you put your fish on. You MUST do it RIGHT before you put your fish on otherwise it's a useless step. I need to find a non-flammable solution.

  • the sizzling made me hungry lol

  • @ozzyman75 It should

  • Did your wife like it!? I would like anything if my husband actually cooked it! LOL!

  • @prairiebutterfly Well, she actually did like it. I was surprised and delighted.
