I knew Eric personally & you've done a cracking version of The Perc-C-Later, although (And please don't hate me for saying this...) It's a little too fast for my liking, it needs to be slowed down. On a lighter note, I'm glad his music is being carried on thorugh other people & posted on youtube as his wife & children will aprreciate this in the future knowing his talent is being recognised still.
@mickiminx : ) no probs! All these old videos where rehearsal footage for me to watch back and use to tweek my playing. Eric was a great guy, really enjoyed the lessons I had from him learnt a lot!
Andy is a great player but I was playing this style years before I heard of him. My first influences where Eric Roche (who wrote this song) Antonio Forcione, Michael Hedges and Thomas Leeb to name a few. Michael Hedges was doing this sort of thing back in the early 80's. They are all worth checking out. Thanks for watching : )
You are really good at both. I'm glad I saw the others too :]
Although I don't love percussive guitar, your interpretation of Billie Jean is really cool. Anyway, I didn't mean to offend you or anything. If I did, I apologize :]
He seems to lose rhythm suddenly. He's a great percussionist, but not a great guitarist. Before anyone replies (or gives me a thumb down) idiotically, think about what I said (typed). Think about it. Seriously. Think. I never said he was a bad "musician". I said he is a not a great "guitarist" and that he "seems" to lose rhythm. Again, don't waste your time if you are not going to think before you reply (or give me a thumb down). I'm also commenting not expecting a reply from Mr. Campbell.
This guy's got hands like Dave Matthews'...only better, haha. I don't even need to congratulate him, I've seen his other stuff. I was expecting nothing less than awesome!
Man whenever I see you play, it just makes me want to give up. haha. You are extremely talented! I've listened to a lot of your stuff and it's tremendous.
OK, people are going to thumb me down big time for saying this but I have to agree with the judges here. Not sure why you chose this to audition with, especially with the introduction it has. You have much better tunes you could have picked by Eric, or even your own compositions. I don't think this tune (even though it shouldn't have to)has a very bid "mass appeal". Good playing when the song gets going, though.
how so - its as difficult as it is - if you play a lot of this type of thing its going to be easier, if you don't it will be more difficult. Perceived difficulty is what you are commenting on.... I just play it the way I do and have fun ; )

well no offence you are ten to the penny mate everyones jumping on the bandwagon cos they think its something different wheninfact it is now about as original as the spic girls too do that kind of thing sorry son but its not happening come back in a couple of years
HA i love your empty threats, its good music straight up, it takes talent to do something like he did. i dont see your ass doing ANYTHING like this or having the balls to post it on the web so yea
all i can say in britians got talent is im sorry you didn't get in. Im not surpised though 2bh because the three judges no nothing about guitar playing at all. Finger style proggression is very much a guitar players music i believe. Either way keep it up. A fitting tribute to the late Roche!
but i think Simon just thought it was more of a gimmick. i mean sure it's an up on the technical side but check out Tony Laf. if it's something to win the crowd, it's a touching song with an even emotional story behind it.
but for guitar players, man it's awesome in my book.
Wow an they said no? And they let thru some little twat trying to be a comedian? You truly deserve to get rele far in that competition, but i'm not surprised you didn't because guitar playing is not as accessible as singing, only guitarists will know how good you are! Simon Cowell obviously doesn't!
I've never heard the original of this one, but it sounded great to me. This one looks like it takes a lot of practice. Is that in DADGAD? Is that a Fishman Rare Earth pickup you are using?
Eric was a great composer - sounds like you've really nailed it, well done! I'd quite like to see you what you make of either version of Trapeze or Porcupine.
Awful. I dropped my guitar once down the stairs and it sounded like that. What's with all the arm waving too. Just weird.

That was really good honestly. I think more strumming and less tapping would sound a lot better though.

I don't know who came first, but perhaps you took influence from Andy McKee? Both great styles either way.

I'd buzz him in 2 seconds.. Downfall of guitars if this stuff gets a following.. If you want drums hire a bloody drumer.
dannyramone7 2 years ago
Lol love it! Because it doesn't already have following and people haven't been drumming on guitars for hundreds of years. : S
DaleCampbellAcoustic 2 years ago
I prefer the way lightning hopkins does it.. Or blues men in general this is kinda over done.. milked it abit.
dannyramone7 2 years ago
That is a better more constructive criticism, demonstrates knowledge and musical taste, which I agree with Lighting is good : )
But obviously I enjoy playing this song check out some of Eric Roches other songs, he is very tuneful, - Bushwacker is really worth a listen.
DaleCampbellAcoustic 2 years ago
Ps. Sorry if I sound like a tit i'm just version Vocal about my music.. its my passion as I imagine its yours just as much
I think you're talented at what you do. I'm just more of a Bob Dylan type of acoustic guy haha.
dannyramone7 2 years ago
And most of us enjoy listening/watching you play it. What tuning is this in?
Gostellow 2 years ago
Nice. Would you be kind enough to post a tutorial on this piece? That would really rock my world - thanks. :-)
Apart from all that: great vids - am enjoying your playing...
Gostellow 2 years ago
The only problem is that the percussion might be just a tad too loud. Otherwise, pretty much perfect! Well done!
