OPEN IT AND CLEAN OUT ALL THE DUST FROM IT.. thats wat happend to my elite...just opened it and it was dust galore...had to take it almost completely apart to be able to clean all the dust from the fans..the vents...the mother board and the heatsinks....
i applied the xclamp kit i had 3rrod. after i applied it i tried overheating it it stayed on 3rrod so i unplugged it and turned it back on and rrod is gone :D but it overheats in like 4minutes and when its hot i turn it off then on then rrod is back, i wait for cool down then rrod is gone? so do i have to leave the fan on the cpu and let the gpu overheat?
All you need is your xbox 360 to lay flat and raised up a little. Then get a small fan on it to keep it cool. There is no need to take the whole thing apart. There are traces on the board that are about .004 thick. If your unit heats up and cools off many times these .004 traces will stretch and shrink and finally break...
Heat sinks are made to draw heat away from the circuit board.
On any xbox 360 when they over heat its because the silicon heatsink compound they use is cheap shit, after a while it dries up messing up the contact beetween the two the heat stops absorbing so all you do is purchase some paste from radio shack clean the processors apply and reattache everything and youll be as good as new! trust me done this many times to xbox 360's and PC's
@N0RCALGiRL559 Microsoft's shitty Thermal Grease is the main cause for the RRoD. Same for laptops and desktops. The Retail Laptops and Desktops use crappy thermal paste that causes a heat reaction, causing the systems to not respond. I use SIIG Ultra-Chill Brush-On Silver Thermal Grease for my computer, Xbox, and Xbox 360. Even the GPUs on a video card as well. My Xbox 360 sounds like a jet taking off, but it hasn't overheated since.
you white boys with all the gay motherfuckin music is fukin annoying. im not saying all white boys do tht but almost half do so can u guys just stop putting that fuckin gay music its fucking annoying ass hell
@nunedune7 Well your grab my balls lick my nuts I have money in my pocket shit gets annoying too. It's his video he can do whatever he damn well pleases and if you don't like it the back button is in the top left hand corner. Also, it probably took them about a month to record this song, your music = 1 day. I have a friend that can do that shit in like ten minutes. So suck it gay boy! Toodaloo mothafucka!
After the failed first attempt of fixing the 2 red lights, I tried it again and it worked! There was this thin sheet of gunk on the cpu heat sink that wouldn't come off with alcohol, so i used sandpaper to scrape it off. There was this gray gunk covering the resistors on the cpu so I removed that too. I used a very small amt of thermalpaste. Also, after looking at other comments, I loosened the screws a bit. Thanks for the video, although i didn't need to do the "lay the fan over the cpu" part.
@33funnyguy i afraid that seems to be the case... I've had 4 xbox, all my friends have had the ring of death somewhere down the line... i've had to resort to having my xbox case open and i've wired some extra fans to it, seems to be doing the job, 2 years and it hasn't overheated... id be interested to know if the new designed xbox suffers with the same problems
i dont think anyone fully understands the xbox i fixed error 0013 today with some rubber spacers no thermal paste and threw the clamps in the bin then after a 6 hour test i put it back in the case, you can guess what happened next error 0013 back again no apparent reason i think it is the poor quality in the chinese build that ruined the 360, if the next xbox is built in china i wont be buying one.
Overheated again after 4 days...i did it a 3rd time and followed video exactly( it is a good video!!!) But, this time i completely cleaned AS5 off chips and started fresh. Make sure to tighten heatsinks slowly 1 at a time, NOT TO TIGHT!!!!!. Then i put the dvd drive out of metal case and blew a house fan on Xbox for approx 5 min then laid xbox fan on lower heatsink and it fired up 1st try.
I have an Elite as in the video and this worked for me. It did take several times booting til it finally loaded. This is my 2nd try doing this. it worked for about 4 days but then I had Xbox on for about 5 hours and it overheated again. Good video, SUPER GAY music. I will post back in a week with 2nd try results.
my xbox 360 had two red lights i opened and i cleaned the processors an put thermal paste i also cleaned all the dust inside and put new fans and its working 100%
the fans helped alot also all the dust it was the biggest problem i recoomend you to opened and cleaned 7 of 10 xbox the problem is the dust
I had to turn it on and off several times, each time the red lights took a few extra seconds before they came on. finally they stayed off and I let it run for 10 mins. seems to be working still 2 days later, and I play for at least 3 hours at a time...
No one ever says this but, if you are going to make the effort to clean your chips, you should remove ALL of the grey thermal compound. It is smeared all over and caked between the tiny surface mount resistors and capacitors on the chips. Over time this may cause damage since it is slightly conductive.
It's probably because the problem is the Ram chips and not the cpu or the gpu. I have the same problem too. Search google for error code 0013 and u will find solutions. I hope it will work for me by reflowing the ram chips.
most xbox will get the red ring of death the first year. your hopes to keep it running either get a job, buy a other system like the ps3 or wii, or get your parents to keep buying you new ones. take this from who had the red ring of death, plus the ps3 is not that bad, except in the online not that great but it keeps yo happy =)
ChristellaKury, I've only done that because of the tons of harrassment from hateful pc hypocrites like yourself. I do try to do more in life than argue and fight with people, and those are heated poltical or social videos where I drop in the truth and let the person take it or leave it. I actually do feel sorry for you, for you are lost and won't listen to anybody, and again, people like you have proven that it would be a waste of time trying to talk to. You have issues of hate & hypocrisys.
ok i had the 2 red lights(error code 0013) i did the xclamp and penny trick now i have the red lights still except error code 0012 it stays on for like ten seconds then poof, what should i do
@tj012345678901234567 error code 0012 is the same as 0013 theyre both overheating codes, i think you put too little thermal paste on your cpu and gpu.
well. tried that as well - still shuts off after 2 - 3 seconds and then the fan shuts off... if it insists it's overheating. why would the fan shut off instantly?
Yea the Ps3 did with in the firt month of the Ps3s release people were bringing it back because the peice of melted itself on the inside and theirs still reports of that overheating and the xbox is way better sony dosnt even pay for online severs do you know how easy it is to hack the Ps3
very descriptive walkthrough on this fix, good job. as per merthless's comment if you check arctic's site they say you need to run for about 6 hours then cool for 12, then 200 hours for an optimal bond. the overheating of the gpu in this case is to replicate the 6 hrs a cpu would run in a computer
did you ever end up fixing it? i am having that same problem now. i have done the penny trick the x clamp fix dusted it fans work fine and i cannot get the xbox to stay on more than 5 seconds
See, I don't have that problem anymore, I put a fan behind my Xbox and it stopped overheating, at least when I have the fan running, and it would also help to clean it out. Thats what I did and it worked.
same here, i put it on my air cooling system for the house, (i put it on one of the vents) and i can play for like 10 hours, and it stays cold, it never gets hot
did you ever end up fixing it? i am having that same problem now. i have done the penny trick the x clamp fix dusted it fans work fine and i cannot get the xbox to stay on more than 5 seconds
