Wow... I only knew the classical piece... this song is amazing. I don't know nothing about this woman or what is she singing... but her voices is wonderful.
Great artists are often liberal in appreciating interpretations of their work. Nabokov, rightly I think, loved Kubrick's movie of Lolita although critics panned it. Minako sings this beautifully and with real feeling. Today is the fourth anniversary of her passing. Perhaps she has discussed her interpretation with Faure in a realm we are not yet ready to understand. There was more to this young woman than was apparent on first glance or hearing. Let the beauty of her feeling touch you. Greg G
Thanks to Kaiware77 for sharing this with us. It has been among my favorites for a very long time. I can only echo the comments of our friend, 6664818GGG, elsewhere on this page. Rest In Peace Our Dearest Lady, Minako.
The Japanese Press had called her "the Japanese Madonna" but Minako was the bodhisattva Kannon. She branched into enka, show tunes, jazz and serious music because she loved music, not to prove something. She had a simple love for music and appreciation of life she shared with us. She had only been taking voice lessons for six or eight years when she succumbed to leukemia a few days after turning 38. It is not the quality of her signing that matters but the quality of her person. Greg G.

It doesn't! It is an instrumental excerpt from Faure's opera "Pelleas et Melisande." The original is better; this version makes Faure spin in his grave. I don't understand people's compulsive need to re-write perfectly beautiful classical pieces and subsequently perform them badly. (It's like the Sparknotes to Macbeth, read with a lisp.)

The singer's low register is great - she needs to work on the high (it gets rusty). She also needs to work on her gestures...makes me dizzy!
