Great voice! I love Anita Cerquetti. I am so happy I have discovered her. If a singer misses ONE note I hardly think you can hold it against them when the rest is so beautiful. Singing Verdi is very hard on the voice. It requires very good technique. Cerquetti had that, but that does never mean flawless. Noone is flawless. So give her a break for crying out loud and listen to all the other wonderful things she does, except from that ONE note that seems to bug people so much.
Brava, Brava, BRAVA! I love Cerquetti. I regret that she is somewhat forgotten today! She was such an artist! Her rendition of this aria (I haven't listen to her whole Forza yet, though I'm gonna buy it soon enough!!) is one of my faves... along with Callas, Tebaldi and young Price. Cerquetti just let herself GO at this performances!!
it is personal how it would be better by your point? as I know it is live performance in Maggio Musicale Florence with Christoff as Guardian and that is something to teach
She is WONDERFUL in this aria! Her voice is rich, dark and filled with emotion! That high B may not have been properly hit, but otherwise she is AWESOME!
But the aria is very hard to sing. The medium and low registers are prominent at the beginning (madre pietosa...). The balance is hard to find.Listen to others : how the test is passed ? For instance Celestina Boningegna +++, Tebaldi +/- Callas +
Stella Roman ++. Cerquetti had such a beautiful and powerful voice, with magnificient piani.
I could not agree with you more. Verdi was so demanding on the singers. A few sopranos have done a great job, but Celestina Boninsegna squared the circle.
i appreciate a lot Boninsegna, because, like Marisa Galvany, she gave everything she had. She was 'too'. Too chest, too emphasis... One can love, one can hate. Anita Cerquetti gave herself, with fire and somehow excess, too. I love !
She was a fine singer.Ernani suits her better than Forza, "Son giunta madre pietosa vergine" the note on "mi lascia mi lascia mi fuggi AH!" is bad, I think it's a SI natural very short and pitchy she nearly misses it.Likewise the whole aria it is a fair almost good rendition
Yes, the high B is a tiny one. As in "bel canto" but this is a Verdian dramatic opera. But perhaps she was far from microphone. She used to thunder high notes without hesitation. But was a bad moment. She was real.
Superb..incredible voice..one of the best singer.

@joanabanyeres La place un peu hystérique de Cerquetti m'a toujours dérangé;de là à l'écarter de la cour des grands,je te trouves bien sévère...
