I think their parents moving in together was a selfish move. They're thinking about themselves and not their children. I can only imagine how unbearable it would be to live in the house with someone you do not get along with. The fact that the parents met on a boat and suddenly fell in love and moved in together in such a short amount of time doesn't even make sense on it's own.

@jennymar Selfishness is all relative. You could say that Brooke and Sam are being selfish too by not taking their parents feelings into consideration. Being a single parent isn't easy, and you do end up sacrificing a lot for your kid. I can understand the two (the parents) of them being so desperate for love (beyond familial) that their romance accelerates as fast as it did. The two (parents) are happy, but Brooke and Sam selfishly hold onto their dumb preconceptions about the other.
