dang that range sucks, with my PS3 bluetooth headset i can walk out side to my mail box, and my ps3 is in the house on the second floor. the controllers have the same range since thier bluetooth also.
to me yes it was worth it. the quality is noticable when u switch between them but i had no issues with the wired one. just like not having to be connected to the controler. I like it myself
