  • What livery are the last two coaches in?

  • The red loco at the front doing all the black smoke

  • I never knew Metro No.1 had a mainline ticket

  • @KinletHallsthebest Hi there, what is 'Metro No1'?

    Simon

  • @citytransportinfo Metro No.1 is a the leading engine. No.1 is a Metropolitan railway's E class steam locomotive, with an 0-4-4t wheel arrangement. The engine behind is an Great Western 9400 class pannier tank, with 0-6-0pt wheel arrangement. I hope that answers your question, both engines are located at the Buckinghamshire railway centre.

  • @SouthernRailwayFan

    Thanks :-)

As it happens, yesterday I was digitising another video tape and included in the scenes was a Pannier tank hauling a single carriage passing Northwick Park on the northbound fast line.

  • Excellent vid!

  • Love that all the windows are open on that 305, going to smell pretty good for the next lot of commuters who use it!

  • Was that a 308, in tow there?

  • Anyone know if the 305 got saved?

  • Lovely clip to discover by accident while looking for old London buses working abroad! Did a few steam on mets but not this one! Very good footage 5*

  • the year was 1066

  • What was the year?

  • that Train looks like Edward or James with the Wrong Colours

  • 1. its not a train, its a locomotive.

    2. How can it, its two locomotives?

    3. Thomas the tank engine is fiction. Sorry to disappoint.

  • place on between work and those my keybords messed up

  • i work those to engines the one at the front in Met 1 which is out of service with boiler problems and the loco behind is 9466 which is still running strong

  • Great one I wish they would bring steam back to the met

  • wembley has changed.. thats for certain

  • Thanks everyone, pleased you liked it - and delighted that I was able to film it!!

    :-))

    Simon

  • @citytransportinfo Yeah, nice fresh diesel smoke, but I wonder if it's too much...

  • Delightful. I first used Wembley Park circa 1971 on my way to work in the Swiss Cotage pub (aged 15!). Thanks for posting.

  • Great Video

  • Great video!

  • That's a bit harsh - Everyone's gotta have a hobby!

  • I agree, that was a very harsh comment. So i removed it.

    Simon

  • Great video, by the way. I grew up in Wembley but long after the age of steam!

  • What date is this ?

In the isle of man we are still lucky to have our steam lines and electric tramway lines

  • I dont remember the exact date, but feel pretty sure it was a Thursday evening in the early 1990s prior to an weekend when there was a "Steam On The Met" event.

    Simon

  • I do not think I've seen such an incongrous set on LT with a redundant 308 series being used as hauled passenger stock. Not forgetting of course the battery loco at the back!!

    again an excellent vidro.

  • I know.

Maybe thats partly why we all love it so much!!!!

    Simon

  • Awesome video! Now thats a train I'd love to get on when I'm going to work everday! Lol!

  • you and the rest of London's commuters!!!

I was very lucky to be there at the right time to film this. I am also very happy that I was!

    :-) Simon :-)

  • Well Simon, I bet you're the envy of ALOT of train enthusiasts everywhere. And I mean that with all sincerity :)

  • Thanks.

    I suppose I am.

    Simon

  • Brilliant video.

  • Thanks.

I was just *very* lucky to be at the right place at the right time - I did not know in advance it was coming!!!

    :-)

  • This has to be the most unusual train formation ever!!! I thought EMUs had to have barrier vechiles between them and the engine.

  • Maybe some do - but obviously not these!

Alas privatisation killed things such as Steam In The Met.

Instead we now how train operating companies running (often) short and overcrowded trains raising fares on captive passengers (who are also being fleeced with OTT tax on fuel for their cars) so that they can pay shareholders fat dividends.

  • Yeah I agree.

  • When was this?

  • I dont have the exact date - but early 1990's.

    Simon

  • Hmm...is it anything to do with steam on the met? Met No.1 and 9466 were regulars I believe

  • yup - this was a train run reserved for railway staff + their families, and to act as a trial run for the coming weekend.

  • They had a huge LMS Black 5 tender engine pulling from Harrow-On-The-Hill to Amersham in 1992. I saw the very same one a few years back just WHIZZING through Rickmansworth station.

  • WTF? Sweet.
