Yes, birds need to be have their cage cleaned and they need fresh fruits and vegetables daily. Also they tend to throw their food around the room which can be very messy.

One of the hardest things about caring for Bibi is protecting her from other pets. She is never left alone in the same room with a cat or a dog, unless she's locked up in her cage. And as you can tell Bibi prefers to be out of her cage as much as possible!

Yes, we talk to her and allow her to remain out of her cage all day long. The only time she is locked up is when the family sleeps or if we all leave the house at the same time. Fortunately, we are home-bodies. :)

We were instructed by Bibi's breeders to make time everyday to sit down on the couch with a towel on the lap and play with her. We've done that ever since day one, and it seems to have helped tremendously. She really like people.

We say the words over and over again until she learns them. Some words she picks up after a just a few times, but most require dozens or even hundreds of repetitions. Just be patient. Also, parrots don't speak at all until the reach a certain age. For an African Grey, that is about 12-18 months.
