@TheTeamMental No, i've never had any burn out but I have had issues with the nylon gears stripping. We've moved on to the $5 metal gear version from hobbyking which appears to be far more robust for combat.
@TheTeamMental Not reliable enough to write a tutorial up about yet, but basic idea is joining the two center gears together with a pin. If you can keep them together reliably then you just use those two to drive the final output gear, removing the one below the output. The metal gear ones are a lot more reliable to speed mod. All comes down to builder skill really, takes a lot of practice.
@TheTeamMental I had the first gear strip the teeth off after 4 events or so, but the servo was fine and they're so cheap it's easy to replace. They won't survive direct hits but the metal gear ones will, they're heavier and more expensive however.
