  • You did good sticking with her and handled her well. Looks like a very interesting ride. ;p

  • haha that is like my horse everyday haha but shes gotten a lot better. you did an awesome job with this little one. keep up the good work!!

  • what else can you expect you are sitting on a three year old. it has not matured mentally or physically yet

  • this is just for some people if you can say something nice dont say anything at all O.O

    Anyway u were really gd!

I've been asked to break this little like 11hh pony :P

  • Your just such a great rider

  • Too funny, makes me think last fall I decided to take my daughters pony out for a spin, he's pretty much mild and calm for the kids, he reared-bucked and I was off, only a 4 foot fall. I don't know how ya stay on. You definately inspire me. THX for sharing the videos.

  • i agree. and my family had a horse like when i was growing up. he was excellent with children. we rode him around by ourselves all the time, he was wonderful. but put an adult on him and he turned into a handful! he wasn't mean and nasty, but he sure could be a pain, haha

  • The video is awesome. I just wish it had been zoomed in more.

  • yeehaw!! Ive seen some of your videos your amazing but i hate when people try to give you advice!!

  • Hehe...good times!

  • wow ur a really good rider but all your vids (the ones i saw anyway) have horses with issues....it just makes you wonder where do you find them ? i only come across horses or ponys like that once in a blue moon. it takes alot to mess horses up that bad, so anyways i was jsut trying to figure out why all the horses in ur videos have such issues?

  • "it takes a lot to mess horses up that bad" what is that supposed to mean? its a THREE year old filly, and its excited, and thats normal, horses have good days and bad days, not "issues". have you ever had a bad day? think before you speak

  • Read before you make stupid comments! I have the utmost respect for this rider and in this comment i am taking into account the many videos she has of herself riding very stressed out horses with some serious issues! obviously this filly is young and this sort of behaviour is representative of that however some of the other horses in her video clearly have some issues which could only have been caused by people. Watch her other vids and you will see what i mean.

  • I have watched the other vids, and I'm not trying to be one of those stupid people that pick fights on youtube, because its stupid, I dont even know you so why would I argue through text? I'm just saying that the horses dont have "issues". they get spooked or have a bad day, it happens to the best of us, the end. horses arent machines and we cant control what they do, they will do what they want, and they have brains to make them have a good or bad day, the horses dont have "issues"

  • yeah definitely i agree with that, horses have bad days and good days but some horses do have issues caused by humans. For example my horse was jumped when he was lame due to misguided riders. for a long time he was terrified of jumping and had an "issue" with it. Its taken a long time but he has his confidence back and loves jumping. anyways i get ur point :)

  • I missed this question. I am asked to work with horses who have specific issues and work with a lot of young horses in general. There many horses with different issues and situations. I am known to work with them, so I see more of them. Some horses just have moments, more or less depending on personality and training. It is wonderful you do not see it. I see it (and more of it) because those are the horses I am often asked to work with. I do have many videos without any moments or issues at all.

  • LOL That Looks Like Tons Of Fun

  • and this is y i love riding young horses!

  • You are one brave person, halfpassgal.

  • Can I use this clip in my horse falls video? I know you didn't fall off =D but I'm including some spooks, refusals, and bolts as well.

  • I do not typically allow people to use my clips in horse fall or bad day compilations because the whole story is not told and understood that way. I do thank you for your interest and for asking rather than just taking it :D.

  • "Was asked to ride this 3-year-old filly for pictures and video. "

That is the /best/ reason I've ever seen anyone give for getting on a horse. XD

  • Hey girl; could you do me a favour, look at two of my video's and read the information and help me lol. Also how did you train your horses to go on the bit? People do it differently and i was wondering how you did it. Great job riding this spunky filly. Your a fantastic rider, and your my inspiration.

  • Good to see you found yourself someone spunky to dance goofy with ya ;)

  • CUTE filly!!! Hehehe, looks like she was a 'fun' ride!

  • Hey me again, wow you are such a great rider. I love your riding style its fab. Nice song suits the video. =] cya.

  • Hi there, i was wondering if you might be able to help me. You look like a wonderful horse rider and very confident. I have a 16year old school master perfect in everyway except for one thing. Im a very nervous rider and latley when we have been going to other places and riding, when i canter he jumps around a bit. Hes not sore. His back is round and its really knocking my confidence. Its not much but its really scaring me :S. do you know why he might be doing this? Thankyou heaps.

  • From the bit information its sounds most like he is just getting excited - a bit of extra energy at a new place. Being a bit nervous as a rider you're probably also acticipating it now making it worse for the both of you. Have you ever tried longing him when you get to a new place to get him focused and both you comfortable before you get on? Perhaps your trainer could work with both of you at the new place. No reason to keep rattling your confidence when you can build and learn from it.

  • thankyou heaps, ill try to organise a lesson with my riding instructor at our riding club where he does it alot. Youve really helped :)

  • I rode a young 2 yr old and he got excited plenty of times, wanting to play. But now, he is an older horse, calm, responsive, and willing. It all depends on the horse and I think that halfpassgal knows whats best for this horse and there's no point arguing at all.

  • Oh, a little of both! :)

  • Oh, cute! Was she just feelin' good, or was she acting up?

  • Halfpassgal, your a great rider and trainer and you earn my respect for that. Ive gone over many of your videos and they are great! you really understand what horses think, unlike many trainer and riders who just want the horse trained and leave out steps, just trying to make money quicker.

  • personally I agree with you Halfpassgal. For example look at TBs, they are bred ovr many many years to be able to be started early.

And to back this up for Vivelakeri, My family has bred, trained, rode, and owner MANY tbs from the track. We had ones we races and 2 and 3 yos and still had them in their 30s with no problems due to racing or training them early.

  • 3 years olds should not be ridden.

  • why not?

  • because, like the video description says, these are FILLYS. they're not fully grown up. and especially not like THIS (in the vid)if a young horse already is acting like that in the beginning then there were made some very big mistakes..

  • "They" (note there is only one horse) are acting this way because of energy. A rider with experience know the feel of a horse and why they are doing what they are doing. As I stated before she was energetic and spunky. She is quite the angel for the most part, at one point got a bit confused about aids as one will and that sparked her interest and she wanted to play. I have been on many of horses and know the difference between one in physical and mental distress and one who is playful.

  • Sorry, I wrote "they" because of my english which is as you see not the best. and no, you don't "feel" if a horse is physically ready for riding, the things some people say that some breeds are ready earlier is rubbish. sure, at the moment they're ready. but will the sinews, the joints, be ok when the horse is like 22? i have my doubts.

  • And quite the opinion. The dicision for the mare is not yours and not even mine. Though I can say she is perfectly happy, well cared for, and in my experience of riding her plenty willing mentally and physically for the work. (even playful as young ones get)

  • i would refuse to ride a 3 years old. you can say what you want, but NO, they aren't physically ready for being ready. yes, sure you can sit on it and walk some rounds but as i said above, a horse who was carefully trained does not act like this. but as i know you always sit on bucking horses till they stop, and you think it's well when they stop. but here we call this "break" them. my opininon.

  • It really depends on the breed as far as maturity. She looks quite well grown. Why have her sit when she can be learning a little? IMO handling and spending time with horses is far better than them being lawn ornaments as some end up. Relax!

  • oh man... i don't mean to put them in boxes or any small paddocks. i young horse should be put on a field with many other young horses so they're able to get social contacts what is absolutely nessecary for a young horse. do you really think any human is an alternative to this? but yeah, some people never get it.

  • You should talk to a vet. Every horse matures differently physically and mentally. I know one who was 4 before he was started, can't be ridden now. I knew one started at 2 now in his 20's and perfectly sound. These are not my opinions and I've seen the reverse situations. I read each horse as an individual and do what is best them. Going around telling someone they shouldn't do something and not knowing the situation and those involved though lacks tact and will not get you anywhere.

  • haha i have talked to a lot of vets. and it's not only the sound, it is, as i said, also the social contact. maybe you got a bit too much comments like "you're the best rider in this world" so you can't take criticism anymore. you're not the only one riding difficult and young horses, and, you're not the best one. (sure, you're doing well, and better than me i bet) i just gave my opinion and there's nothing to discuss on. point.

  • Woo too much to go back anf forth. I am my own worst critic, do not worry about me. It is a fact that certain types of horses do mature in body and brain faster than others. Usually I work with warmbloods and they are the slower end of both and honestly I would much prefer to wait to a certain point. However, this is not my horse and as it was she is perfectly able in body and mind. I can agree with some your thoughts, but not how blindly arrogant you display them.

  • The argument not only has to do with physical age, readiness in that and mentally, but also how hard work is pushed. Later stages of life are determined by many factors, riding and working being one of course as you argue, but also genes, diet, care, the nature around them. We do not differ that much in our opinion I suspect, but more that you use yours as a weapon.

  • I don't think you should be commenting like that in the first place, saying she is too young to be ridden, when you don't no the horse or the situation. You are ignorante about it and I know of many horses who are started when they are two. Clearly you have jumped to quickly when saying she isnt old enough

  • Haha cute! Great song :) Nice to see you back!

  • Thank you! I thought the music fit well for the moment, classic you know ^_^.
