@imaRoLLingStonzFan Seriously, why can't it just be fun for the kid? Especially considering "old time" fiddle isn't about technique at all, really, just making the day a little more enjoyable.
In my studio, students learn the bow hold very quickly using the Bow Hold Buddies[tm] bow accessory. The accessory keeps the hand relaxed and fingers in place while we learn more music.
He's pretty good, but here's soemthings that you can do to help make him better: Teach him how to hold the bow with his pinky on the stick, teach him to bow with his elbow and wrist, not his shoulder, and teach him to keep a little bit of space between the neck and the palm of his hand.
whether I'm "jealousy" or not.. Without that little correction he has no chance of applying his evident musical talent - and that is a fact, dude. Need I explain that this is down to the laws of mechanics. And a big hand for his sister on the guitar, while we're it !.
As a fiddler myself, I'm looking for young fiddler videos to show my 2 1/2 year old grandson. This is just perfect for inspiring him! Nice job on Old Joe Clark, Micah! Thanks for posting this!
wow....there is some major talent in that family. I din't learn to play the guitar till I was un my mid twenties. My old choir teacher said there is 26 letters in the alphabet and 8 notes in a major scale. Why can you talk so well and claim you can't play an instrument......it made me think and I learned to play.......
