  • He introduced me to a lot of the bands that I still cherish, Grand Funk, Alice Cooper, etc. He made radio a happening event, he was like our local `Johnny Fever' , before that character was even thought of. RIP, Briggs!

  • I remember Briggs as one of the formative influences on me musically, as he was the DJ when I was an adolescent, he was at WBGN in Bowling Green. I was very much into music and bands, but only had an AM radio to tune in, I think this was actually before we had FM here. Every night, listening to the rock and the wild hijinks of Briggs Gordon was a great thrill for me.

  • wow this def brought back memories, i worked with Briggs briefly i was a production assist. thanks for the upload

  • I was born and raised in Eldorado (7 miles form Harrisburg) I met Briggs a few times. (Saline County is NOT a thriving metropolis, teeming with populace) But I never failed to see him weekdays at 5:30 on Channel 3. Seems I remember the big mystery of my young daily life being whether Uncle Briggs would show a 3 Stooges or a Deputy Dawg first

  • Didn't he replace Cactus Pete? For some reason I'm linking the two.

  • Didn't he first appear on the independent station in paducah? Channel 29?

I am a SE Missouri native and was wondering if anybody had any old information on the Bobby and Brucie show that Uncle Briggs replaced?

    Thanks!

  • Don't forget to put on your "Cartoon Eyes"

  • Oh just wanted to add the picture at 2:11 and earlier, still frame shot was one my friend did for me off a tape WSIL sent me of a anniversary show, I requested any old Uncle Briggs shows, they told they were long gone, I had a Cairo ILL website and added a Uncle Brigg page and that was the picture I used, nice to see it still making the rounds..:)

  • I remember Uncle Briggs even when he was back on the Paducah indy station, then when he took over the funny company, went to see him at the Gem Theatre in Cairo in the 70's.

Hearing him again does bring back memories, thanks for posting this.

  • It would be great to see some footage!! Thanks for posting this.

  • Thanks for posting this. It brings back a lot of memories. A co-worker of mine has some footage of Briggs; he says he'll post it on YouTube.

  • I loved Uncle Briggs when I was growing up in the 70s. I had a replica of his polka-dot hat and a fake mustache and I have a picture of me and my two brothers dressed in that garb. haha. Fun times! He was much more fun than Cactus Pete.

  • Thank you for posting this - what a trip down memory lane.

  • Man it brings back memories.

  • I watched Uncle Briggs faithfully on WSIL Harrisburg. I remember when he replaced Cactus Pete on the Funny Company. I still have an autographed picture of him. I really enjoyed this.

  • Freeze frame at 2:37 for "cartoon eyes".

  • I was a kid in the 70's in Western Ky watching channel 3 & loved this show. I wish there was a picture of "The Three Stooges" eyes. Thank you for posting this! I've been looking for video of "Uncle Briggs' Funny Company" for a while & this is the closest I've found.

  • Loved Uncle Briggs! I remember when he locked himself in WDXR radio and rocked it hard all night long! Think they may have fired him for that!

Wonder if any of his TV shows still survive?

  • Uncle Briggs used to entertain us as kids. Thanks to WSIL tv Harrisburg Illinois for having him on.

  • Do you know when he recorded this nifty little tune? I sure wish there was some video of his show, especially from the time he read my letter to him on the air! Still a high point.

  • I loved this show as a kid. "Uncle Briggs" was one of the first things I looked up on YouTube a couple years back. Thanks for adding this tribute.

  • I'm glad you liked it. I worked with Briggs years ago. He was a heck of a guy. Thank you for the kind words! Briggs would be happy!

  • I used to live in Johnston City, Il. and watched him every day after school. I never realized he was so young when he was doing that show.

  • I have a photo of my son with UNCLE BRIGGS when he was at the Herrin Fiestival back in the late 70's,,early 80's,, trying to get the photo "cleaned" up so I can give it to my son,who is now 38,, he and my brother both have very fond memories of him,, LETS ALL DO THE CARTOON EYES,,,

  • this guy was ahead of his time. he once smashed a piece of cake into the camera so he could share with the audience.

  • Great tribute to a fine fellow! He brought a lot of warmth and good times to many people.

    RIP Uncle Briggs

  • To this day when I see someone wearing a polka dot welders cap I think of Uncle Briggs. I remember 'Three Stooges eyes' too :) Great memories! I had no idea he died so long ago. :(:(:( He has a special place in many a person's childhood memories - I don't think you can get much better than that.

  • Nice. Brings back memories of childhood.

    - Eldorado, IL native

  • Wow..just wow!

    Uncle Briggs - great tribute!

    That guy was great.

  • Thanks! I had a lot of fun doing it and I'm still looking for more pictures and audio of Briggs.

  • Thanks for some memories of "Uncle Briggs"! A lot of us at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale loved to watch his afternoon kid's program with "Deputy Dawg" cartoons, home grown IGA Super Market commercials with a catchy pun at the end of the ad and not to mention appearing as himself doing the sports for WSIL's evening newscast where he would end his broadcast by saying while rolling his eyes, "and don't forget to keep your eye on the ball." Sorry to hear he died so long ago!

  • You're very welcome. I also watched him in the 70's living in Southeast Missouri and then later worked with him at Q99 radio in Cape Girardeau. He had a sweet soul.

Thanks for the kind words. He brought smiles...once again.
