We have no money in the state because we fund all the illegal`s, food, health care education and housing. Most of them if not all have several ID`s and use them to ge more money thus killing the US and Calif even more. Send them back and shoot to kill if they cross.
See what happens when you decide you want everything for free? Is it any wonder people with real ambition and drive are leaving California for State's that do not cater to the demands of the left? Stop giving free educations and health care to illegals, lower taxes, reduce social programs and you might, just might be able to weather the storm.
I'm from Connecticut and the same thing happened there. There was land willed to the state for use as parks which have closed also. The bizarre thing is they don't have rangers collecting money at the boat launches. The canned the guys due to cut backs. So they lose out on all the launch fees cuz they fired someone. Do the math.
The polititians are penny pinching but losing out on dollars. It's a sad world!
Schmangy- some of the state parks are staff by volunteers that do not get paid anything. At Carpinteria State Beach the kiosk people were volunteers the garderner had done that for 20 years without getting paid. And the custodian for the restrooms did it for free. Some others are the same way. Those that have paid staff are outright lying to make their cause look big and them being the complainers overlooked. All may be shut down if the legislators and the governor believe them.
It's not over. As of September 1, 2009 about 100 of California's State Parks will be closed. There are 220 State Parks so that makes for almost half of our State Parks. Gov. Schwarzeneggar signed the budget last month to allow this to happen. They have not provided a list of which parks will be closed, but it will be a sad time for California and the rest of the world. These parks are important to California and its tourism.
YEAH! THE FRIGGIN HORSE BOLTED! AND I AS A SCOT'S TOURIST AM COMPLETELY SHOCKED AT THIS CAN HAPPEN , BUT I DONT KNOW WHAT THE POLITIVAL AGENDA IS OR THE REPLACEMENT OF DOING SUCH AN ACT OF DESTRUCTION ON FOREST'S ...GET UOP YOU GUY'S AND DO SOMETHING! THEY HAVE A SAYING IN THE UK! BRITAIN "N,I,M,B,Y!" not in my back yard! ??
Hey, I didn't say anything about that. But since you took up arms I'll respond.
1) Its demand economics. Just because you want to be a ranger doesn't mean we should supply you with a job.
2) I wish the best of luck to you and hope that if you become a ranger you replace at least 5 asshole rangers and don't become an asshole ranger yourself.
Umm, I go to these parks and I would not mind if they fire some rangers. I go to Picacho and those rangers are useless, I was just at William Ide's Adobe home, its a public park with a beautiful view, it doesn't need a ranger but volunteers to run the visitor center and give 10 minute tours. There are VERY few state parks that NEED a ranger. Most should have management companies taking care of the maintenance and that is all. Torrey Pines state beach is full of useless rangers too.
UNION should be set illegal, and government employees do not get defined pension is the only way to save California and America. Defined pension is an entitlement to people that is lucky to get a job in government UNION act like mafia to make sure this won't go away. 60%+ of the budget goes to pay salary and pension of public employees, in private sector when times are bad u layoff to survive, but u can't do it in government - why? ----The UNION, they can strike. Who suffer - Everybody.
Yes, but here's the problem. Our funds are backed by CREDIT. They dont even have substance behind them. The federal reserve, IS the root cause of it all! Where do we get our money from? Our country is in debt to a bunch of crazy whackjobs overseas. This is why we dont have money. We kept borrowing and borrowing and borrowing, and now we are in what i last read as 3 trillion dollars in debt! You are in for one hell of a rude awakening.
People are used to the pharmacist point of view. That you cure a disease by treating symptoms. This is exactly the same. The cause is the federal reserve, and the symptoms are Debt, Socialism, Political Correctness, then finally, death. You can treat the symptoms by throwing money around, and this causes temporary relief, but to cure the disease, you must get to the root cause Unless you do so, you wont fix the problem. And the vicious cycle continues.
You are right about the "cure a disease by treating symptoms". But the cause of California bankrupt is because of UNION and defined pension plan. A person work as government employee for 25 years you have close to 85% retirement of your last paycheck and health care, SS till his/her spouse died. And some of the top dog in public sector getting 250K a year, why would u want to work if you are 55 and not working get 150K vs 130K if u work? Let's times that with 50 years and millions of employees
Everybody wants the parks but nobody wants to pay for them. Maybe they should raise the use fees. This way only the elite will use them keeping out the riff raff.
Ok The State of CA funds the parks and yeas you do pay for the Parks and its called TAXES and when you visit some not all you do pay fees to get in to those parks do some reserch before asuming anithing
The fact is the tax payers said no new taxes by voting on the last election. So expect to pay more fees. If you have money thats no problem. If a parks closed you can always go to a resort
Why why why are we stuck with only the "California Parks" Foundation to coordinate this fight? They're a smarmy group. They promote sleazy junk science, hatred of minorities and fat people, and jump on any low class band wagon that will get them a grant from leftist extremists. State Parks need LEGITIMATE support that respects ALL Californians (even if they're the "wrong" color or size), not one that's willing to sell out just to get those big hollywood checks.
Unfortunately, this goes far beyond Ahnold. Im afraid the Federal Reserve is directly responsible for this... paper money is nothing more than an IOU. With our current economy, it has nothing behind it. No substance. We are so screwed and its happening fast. Here's your change, assholes. I hope you fuckers suffer for what you did to us!!!!
I know. I just saw it on the news last night. They've even added more. 16 of them are from my area here on the Central Coast. It would be devastating if they closed these parks. It's not good news at all!!!!!!!!
Yes, I was just checking that news out myself today too, Cathy...and I'm doing the happy dance right about now! ;-) We will have to make sure to keep up with how they are doing throughout the next year so we are not facing the same situation again next year. I have asked people to leave their thoughts about how we can now help to make sure they stay open in the years to come. We should keep making videos and encouraging people to visit and to support these places of beauty and renewal. :-)
PS. We should keep our Save The Parks group and maybe change the name to KEEP OUR PARKS OPEN for 7 generations to come! :-) And we can all keep making videos of our favorite places in interim.
What we take for granted could soon disappear if we do not take up stewardship of the land at this crucial time. I think that may be part of the shift that our parks represent... ...assuming more responsibility for the welfare of our precious planet and all of it's living creatures.
We have 2 months left. Click on "More Info" to find out where and who to write to. We have got to get the message out and save our parks. You don't have to be from California to realize how incredibly horrible this is. Please write Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger TODAY!!!
Thank you Schmagy for your reply and for keeping this news in the public eye, too many shady deals are done by corporations hand in hand with government, which result in natural resources being plundered for profit, the world of compassionate humanity needs to collectively say enough is enough, or we could be looking at nature in books in the future, I'm posting the video on our website today. Keep up the great effort for the parks!
I don't like the way a lot of things are changing; how sad this is? If you just live and you feel that no one cares about the parks, it can be really depressing. I am going to try to visit as many parks on your list. I just went to Will Rogers State Historical Park this past Sunday. That's what keeps me going ... finding peace along the trails and having long conversations, walking with friends.
Please take lots of photos while you are visiting the sites. We need to make more videos to get the word out and plus, you will have them IF the parks do get closed down despite all of our best efforts Every snapshot can move a heart and change a mind. A picture is worth a 1000 words, and this is especially true of our precious parks & historical sites! You can send them to me or to Schmangy and we can put them together to create more ways of getting the word out! YOU can make a difference!
This is why you need to take a stand and fight for our parks. I hope you send our Governor a letter and your Legislator. It's the ONLY way we can put a stop to this.
Thanks, I try my best. A few of my friends have cried at the La Purisima video. They say it's the song that makes it so emotional. I guess I did it with this one too. I was hoping more people would view this video. I am a little disappointed in the fact that I'm not getting much reaction here or on the Group. Kinda sad...I get the feeling a lot of people don't care about our parks.
Del Norte Redwoods State Park is the 4th or 5th largest park in California, and contains 45 to 50 percent of all the old growth redwoods in the state. I believe the closures are more about logging these forests without undue interruption from the public, and not "saving money" but MAKING MONEY, BIG TIME, when the timber industry gets a foothold on the lands. IMO, this is not just a fight to keep our parks open, it is the beginning of a whole 'nuther wave of exploitation of our natural resources.
What makes me saddest is the feeling that we are no longer living in a democracy anymore when the people in power just do whatever the hell they want to do with absolutely NO sense of accountability to ANYONE or anything anymore. It's like living in a dictorship when we no longer have ANY say whatsoever in what we hold sacred and of value regarding our PUBLIC lands. The land and the government is suppose to represent THE PEOPLE's interests, not the MONEY interests! It's beyond nuts...
