Here in Sweden there is a problem with the ferrys from the mainland to an Island called Gotland (around 40 000 people lives there). The ferries are similar to this one (doing 28-36 knots etc.). The problem is that in the high season (summer, of course) the ferrys are packed to the max, and it's hard to find tickets. Ironicly, during the winter theres around 80 % less travellers on each trip. This means that the ferry is more eco friendly summertime, but flying is more eco friendly during winter.
I was stationed there from 2002-2005. We did our job and followed orders. The locals need to protest the politicians, not the people enforcing the laws.
have you noticed that the protesters are all white. and white people can afford airline tickets when travelling betwwen islands, yet the locals suffer because the ferry is the only cheap way to visit relatives.
The superferry appears to off-islanders to be an environmental hazard, we do not live on Kauai, but respect the protesters and what they are doing. If I lived there, I would also be on that dock, with my family, standing up for the beings in the ocean who cannot protest. We have all seen the footage of what the superferry can do to whales and the environment beneath the waters, if the ecology is damaged beyond repair, generations to come will regret this if you do not continue to fight.

Like I said, if it were up to me, I would halt on everything until we could do a better job on inspecting all cargo that come to the islands. Still, I'd love to see the ferry be able to come to Kauai. I've got family that would love to come over on it from the other islands, and the other way around. I've got a family reunion on Oahu coming up soon and I love my car, so bonus. But I wouldn't use it if is going to hurt the enviroment.

This gives relief to SF investors so they won't go bankrupt waiting for the report. It also provides time for the EIS to give us an idea of the impact to the island. This councilwoman featured in the video is completely misinformed. The supreme court ruling did not apply to the Super Ferry in Nawilili harbor. The TRO placed on the ferry was to prevent operations on the island of Maui until an EIS was performed, not on the Super Ferry mind you, but on the harbor improvements made in the port area on Maui. It had nothing to do with the Super Ferry operating their service between Honolulu and Lihue.

Like I said, if it were up to me, I would halt on everything until we could do a better job on inspecting all cargo that come to the islands. Still, I'd love to see the ferry be able to come to Kauai. I've got family that would love to come over on it from the other islands, and the other way around. I've got a family reunion on Oahu coming up soon and I love my car, so bonus. But I wouldn't use it if is going to hurt the enviroment.

It doesn't hurt to TRY to be as safe as possible. This gives relief to SF investors so they won't go bankrupt waiting for the report. It also provides time for the EIS to give us an idea of the impact to the island. This councilwoman featured in the video is completely misinformed. The supreme court ruling did not apply to the Super Ferry in Nawilili harbor. The TRO placed on the ferry was to prevent operations on the island of Maui until an EIS was performed, not on the Super Ferry mind you, but on the harbor improvements made in the port area on Maui. It had nothing to do with the Super Ferry operating their service between Honolulu and Lihue.

Wow, people still think that the Ferry was created to create affordable transportation between the islands...just like how people thought the H3 was created to alleviate traffic in Honolulu. Do some homework, look at where the same Ferry system is being used around the world with this type of "ferry" and what it is eventually used for. how rude and Un-American of the Ferry company to disobey the very rights protected by the U.S. court system and enforced by its rulings.

you disgust me. do not rip on the coast guard. how many of your friends and family have been saved by them? my husband was out there. doing his job. you probably cant hold a job, so you wouldnt understand anyway, but when you have a job, you do what you are supposed to. and dont threaten coast guard. next time you need the coast guard, next time your surfer"brah" goes missing, next time your boat is stranded, next tsunami, dont call the coast guard.

I agree with you 100% My husband's dealing with that crap today and it amazes me how they were there last time rescuing a surfer and being appreciated by them and this week they hate us. The surfers were told to move, stop spitting on the coasties, stop swimming in front of their boats and they chose not to. Go Coast Guard.

the superferry is a new thing on kauai. we have had enough. there are so many issues to deal with here, the people are angry and the superferry has united us and focused our energy. I really hope that this is just the beginning and we do make a difference on our island. we really should be protesting the airlines, and the rental car companies, and the GMO people, and the military, and green harvest and others
