It was made while I was working at a company called Protozoa in San Francisco in the mid 1990's. I did all of the "animation" except for the opening title letters walking on. That was done by Emre Yilmaz. Fred the chimp was modeled by Bay Raitt while I modeled everything else. We used a motion capture system that allowed us to do a form of digital puppetry (aka performance animation).
The voice acting and animation is amazing, the graphical side of it isn't that great though, which is a bit sad, when all the other things are just perfect.
Ya, you are so right. He should have spent at least a few months adding details to please the spoon fed masses. I can honestly agree with you that after making this video to broadcast for free for all to gawk at he should have went back and spend countless hours editing and touching up each frame to get over that not great enough bar so have so ironcladly set inside your mind. I am sure you understand this. Your comment suggests a wealth of experience. =\
