Yes EMS should be in charge of a MEDICAL situation but this is a trauma situation. Fire assume scene safety overall with guidance and communication with their EMS colleagues.

5.) If he was "dead" then why the ambulance transport ? (rhetorical) He probably wasn't dead just yet. But the EMTs wheeling him over to the ambo hadn't done anything except C-Spine immob. No oxygen, CPR, BVM, IV, code drugs, whatever their local protocol is.

1.) 7-8 hood rats recording the thing on their cameras could have effected a rescue, like the one where the car was burning. There were fewer there that tipped the car and pulled they guy out. Oh well, it's NYC.

2.) FD engine or ladder officer should have done a 360 survey and size up and come up with a game plan. PD was second in and should have assisted FD.

3.) Airbags and cribbing would have prevented the fall. The fall could have injured a FF or Cop. Stupid not to have cribbed. contd.

It's a tough call but if you watch, you can see that his head is in a slightly different position after the car falls on him. It's possible but we won't really know because we weren't there. Either way, this was not a good situation.

@oneclipse NYPD ESU lifted the auto simply by placing the Hurst Tool (hydraulic spreaders) under the car and lifting, because they had to get involved with the firefighters operations, the description doesnt say how FDNY was about to grab chocks when ESU had the hero helmets on and pulled a stunt like that- the tool slipped out causing the drop

we got a guy in my volly house (a new york city asshole) who claims you dont need to crib a car on all four weels. well let this be proof that cribbing i always a precautionary action that should be taken. this guy (a member for less than two years) was corrections esu, he had the balls to tell chief we dont need to crib and he isnt even an offier. he will go as far to kick cribbing out from under the car if someone cribs. dont forget the suspension. get those assholes who say no out of the way.

If they would have cribbed the vehicle right, while jacking it up, this wouldn't of happened, lack of communication is the biggest reason this happened

Fortunately, for the victim here it appears he passed quickly RIP. If you look at the footage in the beginning you can see that the victim is lying prone (on his stomach) and they focus in on his face which is facing upwards. Most people can't look behind themselves and live to tell you about it. Let alone for 70 feet under a moving vehicle. He was dead before responders even showed up. Therefore you can't cause further injury to someone who has passed.

This happens all the time, the cops are in such a race to bet the FF that they do not properly chock the vehicle! The FF were on scene first the PD should have been on stand by if the FD need them! You never extend a hurst tool all the way when the vehicle is not chocked! The FD was not ready for the car to be lifted. I wish the PD enforce the law and leave the rescue work to the FF just like they do all over the country and world!

It is clear that at 4:52 into the video that the NYPD Emergency Service Unit operated the jaws of life in an inapproprite and reckless manor causing additional injuries to this victim. The FDNY was clearly setting up the air bag rescue system which is safer and more controllable. After the NYPD dropped the car you can hear the Fire Fighters yelling at them and then you can see them scurrying away from their screw up like rats. Leave the rescuing to the FDNY

@132230ak That's BS. The victim died of suffocation because nobody tried to help get the car off him so he could breathe. The Fire dept was trying to get the pressure off him as quickly as possible. Air bags take too long. He had already been without oxygen for 10 minutes when the fire truck came. It was already too late for him. If you must blame someone other than the old lady that CAUSED the accident, blame the gawkers for not doing anything.
