  • and for motivation: set goals that are worth working for and that are for YOURSELF not for others (bad examples: looking like XYZ, getting laid, etc.). ask yourself: what will this do for ME? elaborate and then go higher until theres a spark of emotional energy. that means, your goal is high enough to motivate you.

  • Elly makes a good point, but dont get it wrong. suppressing emotions is not healthy and doesnt work in the long run, but recognizing and accepting emotions as they come and still keep training is ok.

    off the trainingtime one can resolve them by questioning the why behind them (inner dialogue).

  • I use to workout 5 times a week for 2 hours a day! I did this for years! but then I got married and had a family. Its hard to to be a good provider and a good family man and still at the end of the day want to workout! I need some help myself guys!

    I had no problem working out when I was doing it at the gym. I came into some money about a year ago and bought my own equipment, but ever since I've been doing it at home, I've found it difficult to find motivation.

  • I'm finding a lot of advice I'm being given for working out etc. applies to everything in my life at the moment. The whole thing of having a goal and emotions etc. getting in the way and having to turn my brain off seems so important for a relationship I'm working on with a lady, I keep letting my emotions and brain get the better of me but I gotta shut down and play it cool. Thanks for always being my perspective Elliott!

  • fucking right on elliot. today was the first day in a WHILE that i didnt want to hit the gym. im training for powerlifting so i just didnt wanna deal with heavy weights at all or any part of my workout today. but i said fuck it, went to the gym "turned my brain off" and worked and still had a pretty good workout. great advice man. your rock!!

  • Hi i checked your site but i dont know which product i should get (workouts) I have been doing Stronglift for 1 year the 5x5 method but right now i dont know what to do that would help me get stronger in my sport which is BJJ (I do 3 times a week Brasilian Jiu jutsu and some wrestling) MY goal would be to gain 5-10 pounds of muscles in 1 one year or less

  • @yoluigi you can do that with the free mass gaining workout I gave away in one of my videos about 8 months ago... all you have to do is download it and use it right away.

  • You just need new stimulus brotha. Your body has acclimated to the workouts

    you are doing so switch it up: movement order, weights, rep scheme, tempo, new movements altogether. But Elliots got it right, sometimes our inner voices just don't shut the fuck up and we need to quiet our mind. The goal of many eastern philosophies and religions is quietness and becoming nothing. Huge wisdom there.

Maybe apply Elliot's strategies when you return, but turning off your brain now if your in an over trained prob won't do any good or might even exacerbate your problems. Your describing all the symptoms that I experience as I approach my off week.

  • Yeah true. It sounds more like the guy didn't have a goal. Just going to the gym for no reason. That doesn't make any sense really because if you look at athletes, they always train towards a goal rather it's to run faster or to swim faster. They always have a goal. For me, my goal is to beat myself and to get big so that I can feel great about the way I look hence make me enjoy life.

  • also elliot it is good to set even a weight goal. like to lift 400pound deadlift or to get a 200 pound clean.

    once you achieve these its fulfilling as fuck

    these goals are esp good to set for begginers since most of them train to look better aesthetically (which wont be prevelant till 6 months'ish into their routine)

  • ok video kid this is what you do based on what Elliot said. First stop going to the gym for a week and that will make you want to be at the gym. Second, a pre workout such as Jack3d will wake your ass up quick and you will want to be the best. Finally, choose one lift than you want to increase weight on each time you go to the gym. For me I always wanted to squat 2 plates a side and worked as hard as I could to get there and it made it that much better when i finally did. Than make a new goal

  • Ive had the same problem, the reason why it happens is because you lost the reason you train, like elliot said: set goals! Its the only thing that helped for me.. Set goals and make a plan to it

  • @acubanmissile if your thoughts are resourceful or if you know how to cultivate strong thoughts, then do it... but when your thoughts / emotions seem to be against you then its best to turn away and ignore them for the time being.

  • @acubanmissile he means turn off thinking about all the garbage in your life. For example if your gf is screaming at you for hrs and than you go to the gym after you have to learn to pretend that didn't even happen and focus at the task at hand

  • @acubanmissile the video is titled "Motivation to Workout (when you don't feel like it)"...so its pretty clear that when Elliot says "turn off your brain", he is using it in the context to not listen to the part of your brain that is telling you that you dont want to goto the gym.

    In other words...dont think about it, just do it.

  • Yo Elliot, I weight 360 lbs and i'm only 19 years old, I'm in the gym every other day lifting, and I have a nice base of muscle, now I want to lose all this fat to show this muscle off, and your all I can turn to! I don't eat much fruit and no vegetables, so It's so hard for me to eat healthy, please give us a good meal plan or something we can follow, and maybe some alternatives to soda, your my role modle Elliot!

  • @dlo4eva buy some broccoli that has a light cheese sauce its how i started eating vegetables. Im not elliot but here is some advice.

  • @dlo4eva its so simple. cut out ALL the garbage in your diet no candy no twinkies (give yourself at least 1 cheat day a week on that day eat all that your ehart desires.). switch to water. if you must theres 5 calorie packets of drink mix you can get from walmart. cardio and watching what you eat. you have to take in less than what your body needs, but not by a whole lot. just around a five hundred calorie a day deficit. i dropped 85 pounds, just remember its a marathon, not a sprint. good luck.

  • @dlo4eva cutting out sugar is what works for me. and for the soda, if i cut it cold turkey i end up binging and drinking a twelve pack or something. for that i only replaced it with 1% milk for some meals and once a day i'll get one but only drink half of it. don't know if that'll help you but it helped me.
