  • @jts024 Tried. Too old for that. :)

  • Nice I like the use of the GoPro

  • First up I am going to tell you just to hear me out and read the whole comment first. When you crashing the cymbals try hit them in a way that you get a nice short accent instead of a full sustained crash that will help with the feel. Also you swing is just a little straight. The more jazz you play and listen to the better this will get. Also have look at jazz jazz permutations and play them on the snare and bass with the ride pattern and hi hat on top. Hope this was at least mildly encouraging

  • @Crusada54 Thanks! Good insight!

  • Roflmao

  • What kind of jazz is this?

  • i have those same shorts ._.

  • how the hell does the video have so many dislikes, wtf is wrong with you people, he's enjoying the music and its great clean drumming, more power to you man!

  • This is quite a sexy video!:D And people really need to calm there balls. Jazz beats arent the easiest things to learn and i listen to metal and im giving kudos to this so the stupid shits saying this was bad can go suck a huge one.

  • never take your pinky off the stick!! maybe on a buzz but thats it! good vid tho.

  • dude nice playing very tasteful.. one question. what is that wooden thing on the side of your snare drum? i think i may want one.

  • @Soundman37 Thanks! Google: Yamaha Groove Wedge - Makes cross-stick patterns very warm and nice.

  • @alexkills I actually do have videos on my face book lol. so you are incorrect. I can't comprehend how someone can take this much pride in playing so poorly, and you will keep playing poorly because you wont take any sort of criticism. your just like f**k the world I'm awesome lol, which is why you will always be a less than mediocre drummer. Enough said...

  • @KINGCRAB3 Really? Give me your facebook then. You're a real fuckin' dick, and you just contradicted yourself, saying that I won't take criticism on drumming, and I act like I'm better than the rest of the world? If you're so good and know everything about jazz drumming, quit acting like a total prick and give him some advice instead of picking on him.

  • I think it's good enough as it is. Playing the drums isn't just about swinging wildly.

It's nice to the ears and follows the tune, so why this much criticism?

  • @JaganNoOtoko Thank you sir. I appreciate the comment :)

  • 0:53 WHY

  • @DrinkingRoses Dunno. That's how it came out.

  • @DrinkingRoses What's wrong with it?

  • @200ike That Is EXACTLY what I am currently Trying to firgure outt hahaah.

  • gostei muito a batera é muito show e som de jazz é muito massa...

  • @kielpeniel Graças

  • so to me it looks like u put up a shitty video, then wait for people to post negative stuff so you can argue with them. and i know ur gonna respond to this like "read the description durrr". and to what level have you set the bar exactly...instead of taking criticism that people give u, u throw it away and say "stop picking on me im not a jazz drummer :( " And if your not a jazz drummer, why would u put up a trash video of yourself playing jazz that u know people will respond to negatively?

  • @KINGCRAB3 Haha. Here's the response you wanted. There's been plenty of positive comments amongst the negative ones. I wanted to play a jazz vid and I did my best. I don't give a crap if you like it. No more than 15 seconds dedicated to you. Good for me.

  • @KINGCRAB3 Where are your drum vids? troll. by now I have to say he plays better than you, because he's provided proof. You have no videos whatsoever, so your opinion doesn't count.

  • So i saw your response saying you're exploring new styles of playing, with jazz what i've picked up is to try to emphasize up beats as much as possible as well as 2 and 4 which you're doing great with ( a little more work with the ride accents and you'll be golden) and rather than playing on count one to play on the and of 4 to propel the music forward. But it's great playing otherwise man, keep it up!

  • blegh. This might be the least swinging drummer I ever saw.

  • @lompeboertje he's shite right? someone this crap doesnt deserve saturns and k's

  • @SuperDrummerJoe

Keep rude stuff like that to yourself. Art is art and can be subjective, obviously. There are probly people out there who really enjoy his playing. You are not the drum police, so pipe down.

(btw, I'm a pro drummer, so I know a thing or two about stuff)

  • @SuperDrummerJoe Once again, someone who hasn't uploaded any of his playing, yet thinks he's entitled to an opinion on how someone else plays. You have no proof of how good you are, so don't talk shit.

  • @lompeboertje Bleh? Well Its Jazz, Not metal So He isnt Gonna Be tearing That shit Up Headbangingg. Duhh.

  • @lompeboertje Mate, he just said he isn't a jazz drummer. He just ENJOYS playing it. That's what music is about enjoyment. You're all forgetting that none of you play like Gadd, Chambers, or Collaiuta so why don't you back that fuck up and show some respect to your fellow drummers.

  • hey it's an awesome vid and the drums sound amazing with hot rods... one question i had was what are you miking these with??? also i was wondering that if you play 1 & 3 on the bass drum every time you do a swing beat...i get that may be a sound your going for or what someone wanted but it changes the swing feel so...not to be a douche or anything just trying to understand why you played it like this in this video...

  • @blurbysherbert You're one of those people that actually thinks before posting a comment. Thanks! If most comments were constructive like this YouTube would be a better place.

The reason I played it like this is because... I don't know what I'm doing. Haha. No really. I'm a rock drummer branching out into other styles so stuff like jazz, swing and latin are not part of my usual repertoire. I still need to work on some of this stuff a little more.

  • @sixstringsensei

Agreed! When I first started playing jazz and swing/fusion styles, I played in a really linear way so I could learn to feel the beats. Getting into the triplets was hard, so I kept playing like this until it came easier. Don't listen to the haters. You'll do fine. Some guys can do retarded fast tom/snare fills and blast beats but can't play with a click or a real band. Keep up the good work!

  • @blurbysherbert About the miking. Take a look a some of my latest videos. In the video description text their is tons of info about the recording setup. Also check the blog at dannycruz . com. Lots there too.

  • @blurbysherbert for beginner swing players its an easier way to keep it flowing and happening.

  • Great job man ur an awsome drummer

How did u match the 3 diff angwls on final cyt with the audio ???

    Isnt it hard??

  • @Drummerstefen Yeah it's hard. The audio is recorded and mixed in Logic Pro. The 3 camera angles are then imported into Final Cut along with the mixed audio track. Then all is sync'd up and edited to fit. :) There are more processes I didn't mention, but that's the essence of it. -Danny

  • Very nice!

  • i like it.. saturns are beautifull.. great player..

  • try using sticks next time, having the dowels was cool but you need to use the sticks to get that great crack out of that snare and its plain fun for dynamics. With dowels you can only go so far with dynamics but with sticks its a different world

  • @frodog19 Cool. I think I might have another video I haven't edited yet... and it's with sticks.

  • Me gusta. :D

  • @FUELEDbyVEGGIES Thanks!

  • danny i realy like the sound!.....whats the video camera..........i almost cryed jkjk it a realy nice cover man make more!

  • @logansdrums Video cameras a Go Pro HD Hero (3). The sound is not going through the cameras though. Only the video. Tracks are courtesy of Rhythm Magazine.

  • I think your fills let you down. They just don't sound right.

  • @Bluequacker Thanks! Yep, it's not perfect traditional jazz, but thanks for taking it for what it is. -Danny

  • I played jazz this bad at about my 9 - 12 month point.

    Why post this?

  • @kiethsurf1 Another hater with no vids to prove how good he plays.

  • Danny: you shouldn't post something like this on Utube with you playng jazz.

I am a jazz drummer (amateur - 6 yrs). This is a laughable disgrace. Put something up that shows you and your equipment in the best possible light ! Certainly you play another style better.

  • @kiethsurf1 Then go laugh. If you were as mature musically as you claim, you would keep your nasty comments to yourself. There are plenty of bad videos on YouTube. I'm entitled to my own. I enjoyed doing this video, so screw you.

  • bro sick shit very much your own style. forget anyone tellin you your not good. if they knew anything they could obviously tell you know your stuff hope to see another video of some progression keep it up :)

  • Sounded good to me. Love the sound of your Saturns!

  • Nice kit, nice studio room, nice sounds.

  • Nice practice studio. I need to get that kind of set up at my house. Keep it up!

  • i dont see why everyone is dissing this video, yeah it might not be your "traditional" jazz drumming but its on its way. sounds good to me and for not being a jazz drummer its not that easy. i hardly ever play jazz, i know the basics but thats it. sixstringsensei I LIKE IT :D

  • Thank you dude. I can see my own jazz weaknesses on this video... But that doesn't make it bad. I mean... Am I not allowed to post up a jazz video because I'm not a real good jazz drummer? Screw these guys man. There's tons of crap up on YouTube. There's no way this video is bad. -Danny

  • okay i wasnt tryin to be rude im just saying i thought it was obvious not to use a china in a swing kinda song like this. and the pattern over all is ametureish. and probably the most most most important thing in to always keep the hihat on 2 and 4. in my opinion u should cut out the bass on 1 and 3. once again not tryin to be rude

  • @moken1238 Haha, he wasn't being rude at all. In fact, he was agreeing with you.

  • @sixstringsensei - don't bo so sensitive personally responding to every comment. Truth is, this is lame whether you claim to "not play jazz" or whatever. It sucks cuz when you put in "jazz drummer" in the youtube browser, this gargage comes up first. Take my advice, erase this video of you graciously fumbling through this song, and put up vids of you playing rock music which is clearly what you're more familiar with. Practice your jazz, and THEN post a video of it. go ahead and respond now...

  • I have 70 videos of other music and 1 of jazz. I think I'm doing OK. Move on to the next video in your search.

  • Furthermore... This video of me playing jazz with 2 years experience is staying up. Then when I have 3 years experience I'll post another. Then another. There's a nice little block button on YouTube. If you don't like it block it.

  • @jsh4drum

What is the reasoning behind your ignorant comment?

  • uh...my reasoning is your mom. ha!

  • Ummm. How old are you? ??

  • No wonder. Your last comment says it all. I've been wasting my time.

  • I like this very much and I like your candor in discussing the purposes of the video and the project generally. I'm not a jazz drummer either. I now play rock drum set which is very different so I do not pretend to be able to analyze what you are doing on the drums. But I like the sound and the groove very much, whether it's "authentic" jazz or not is irrelevant to the narrative you provide.

  • This is great - love it!

  • THANK YOU!

  • fake jazz drumming

  • Hmmm. Fake reader. If you'd taken the time to read the description you'd have an idea of what he hell you're talking about.

  • @sixstringsensei I have no idea why all these people are so negative to you...

  • i have a question. who the hell uses a china in a upbeat jazz song. and the bass drum on 1 and 3 is not very jazzy if u ask me.

  • Another... Come'on people, read. Read the description. I'm not a jazz drummer. Pretty good once you set the bar. Plus, most people that are into jazz actually posses some musical maturity and sense of criticism. Two traits you obviously lack. China in jazz? Ever heard of Fusion? Set you facts straight.

  • Did I forget narrow-mindedness? Oh yes I did! You want perfect pro-jazz. You're in the wrong place. Search for Steve Gadd or Vinnie Colaiuta - Or buy yourself a Steve Smith DVD. You're in the wrong place here.

  • How do you know where to put the sound dampening foam?

  • Are you talking about the foam inside the sticks? They come like that.

Or... You mean the foam on the walls? Well, I didn't have enough to treat the entire room, so I treated adjacent walls. There are 2 bare walls and 2 treated walls. My hopes were that the sounds reflected off the bare walls would be stopped by the treated adjacent wall. Not all that scientific, but worked pretty well.

  • Wow amazing how you play the drums, the sticks are more bigger for Jazz?

    Take care, keep playing :)

  • Hi! Thank you! These sticks are thicker than normal sticks, but not denser. They are actually made up of many little sticks bundled together. They are usually called "rods". These actually have a foam core in order to make them softer sounding. Look the up... These are Steve Smith Tala Wands. Cheers, Danny

  • Yes!, I realized that hahaha, I have 14 and I started playing drums on my Church and I wanna learn more tips on drums, I hope to learn more and be good like you...

    Take care, Johnny

  • @JnthnLoops Hadn't read you last message 'till now. Thank you!!! keep at it!! -Danny
