German tank crews were given (when they had supplies and the time) paints to camouflage vehicles. The problem was the paints were a very thick paste and they used whatever they had to thin the paints (gas, turpentine, diesel fuel, etc).The application of camo was usually done in the 'field' so there are a wide variety of 'strengths' of the colors used. So you could see some brighter greens and darker red/brown and vice versa. This all adds up to a lot of artistic interpretation for the modeler.
