  • it said was dirty so i went to my computer i selected format then it changed it anyway but gave it a 4gb allocation size what is that much appreciated!

  • I don't know if it was because i did this but after i did this (and it worked) i disconnected the external HDD and connected it to my PS3. Nothing showed up so i connected it back to my computer. My computer found it but it does not run autorun or show up on My Computer. I feel like i'v tried everything but i have to fix it because i have important documents in there. Please help!!!! Thanks :)

    PS: I have a Samsung G3 Station 2TB

  • FUCVKING WONT WORK. THIS SHIT WILL NEVER WORK I ENTERRET EXACLYU LIE U IT JUST SAYS INVALID SHIT!!!!!!!! FUCKKKK!!!!!!!!!

  • would this work while working on Windows Vista Home for converting an external HDD which is on FAT32

  • @lungudragos I would expect so. Always make sure you have a backup first, just in case...

  • Thank so much Pc Rogers . 100% Works

Really great explained Tut. Thanks alot !

  • @FreeCompConsultant i got problem,it say "Windows found errors on the disk, but will not fix them because disk checking was run without the /F (fix) parameter.

Convert lost chains to files (Y/N)?"

  • @TheRttleSNK run with /F, then I always answer Y to convert lost chains. Usually I just delete them afterward but only after ensuring they don't look meaningful.

  • Two thumbs up!

  • thanks man !

  • This helped me so so much, My 5GB file couldn't be copied to the usb because it was too large (8GB USB) but converting it to NTFS did the job, thanks dude, simple but helpful.

  • thanks :)

  • mine says "this drive is dirty and cannot be converted. You will need to clear the dirty bit on this drive by dunning CHKDSK /F or allowing AUTOCHK to run on it the next time you reboot."

when i run it, it says that "chkdsk cannot run because this volume is in use by another process. would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? y/n

i press y and restart my computer but nothing happens

  • @rdy2pone Try:

    sfc /scannow

Could be that Autochk.exe is corrupt

  • For me it says "an incorrect volume label was entered for the drive" i put c: drive

  • @BMWboy6 You have to match whatever the drive has for a label. If you do a directory of C: in a DOS box, it will tell you "Volume in drive C..." followed by the label info, usually all upper case. It may have no label.

You can set the label easily by right clicking the drive in My Computer, selecting properties and changing the label in the box at the top

  • @FreeCompConsultant Got it Thanks!

  • Thanks a lot :)

  • hey man it says to me when i type FS/NTFS: access denied as you do not have sufficient privileges. you have to invoke this utility running in elevated mode.

    help :)

  • Wow.. my thing got formatted.. wtf?

  • Very clear, easy to follow instructions. Thanks for the help.

  • thx a lot it's work

  • Nice! I thought it was hopeless but now I can use my clear drive for my PC now that my PS3 data is safe elsewhere.

  • Thank you very much Roger!

  • TY!!!

  • Hi Roger!

I've got a Western Digital "931GB E-book" with only 16GB free space. How can I check if 16GB is sufficient for "conversion process" before running CONVERT command?

I have a decade of data saved and no other drive to Backup first. Taking a 'Chance' is not an option for me. Will my drive take significantly longer to convert to NTFS from FAT32? Whats the safest way to go about the conversion process?

Need NTFS format for storing files larger than 4GB.

    Thanks!

  • @ronisize420 If taking a chance is not an option, please don't. I have never lost any data doing this but I ALWAYS had important data backed up just in case.

Backup is cheap. If nothing else, get a free account for your most important couple of gig of data. Find SugarSync 5GB free account at OnlineBackupSpot(dot)com

  • @FreeCompConsultant :

Thanks for your input! Ill look into this asap. =)

  • THANKS ALOT...AWESOME VIDEO.

  • good job

  • @FreeCompConsultant

I have 2 accounts on this computer, but only one is logged in. And no i am not sharing any files

  • @GamingFurry You can try booting into safe mode

  • when i try to convert i get this error:

"Convert cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Convert may run if this volume is dismounted first. ALL OPENED HANDLES TO THIS VOLUME WOULD THEN BE INVALID. Would you like to force a dismount on this volume? (Y/N)" I'm running an illegitiment copy of windows xp with SP2. I have a 160 gig drive on FAT32. What does this error mean and what should i do? Please help

  • @GamingFurry Are you sharing files, is another user logged in?

  • can i convert my main C:/ disk to ntfs?

  • Comment removed

  • @ruptur3d yes you can but remember my advice to backup first - just in case!

  • @FreeCompConsultant alright, thanks.

also how do i check if i acctually can convert?

  • @ruptur3d Just type in the command, it will tell you if there is an issue.

  • @FreeCompConsultant excellent, thanks again

  • How do i delete the fucking words already in the command prompt??!?!?!?!?

  • @EconPROOF You don't have to... but try

    cd \

  • this is work in Win7???

  • PLSSS HELP

for label i write FAT32 but it says "An incorrect volume label was entered for this drive." PLS Help!

  • @Haluciniram the label is the name of the drive

  • Comment removed

  • @Haluciniram I have never lost data doing this, but if you read the comments below it might seem others think they may have. I ALWAYS recommend a FULL BACKUP before doing this JUST IN CASE.

  • Comment removed

  • it says i have corrupted files on it and it wont convert =o

  • I tried to convert but it says that convert is stopped couse I don't have the rights to do so. I'm already adminstor of computer and problem is still there.

  • @TheAlluvaa Is this your c: drive or another drive? You may have to take ownership of it.

  • @FreeCompConsultant i have the same problem than thealluvaa and im the owner of the pc wt cn i do now???

  • @meyerjocker You need to take ownership of the files, google the term for great instructions, then give yourself permissions.

Don't know for sure if that's the problem but I have seen it before.

  • @TheAlluvaa Type O then press enter and then it works

  • when you say save all data do you mean all software, or do you mean controlling programs like windows and word too?

    plz comeback to me thnx!

  • @XLUpLoaderXL Well, a COMPLETE backup is ALWAYS BEST; but, if you can replace the operating system and programs from original CDs then at least backup any data that is important to you first, just in case. You SHOULDN'T lose any data in the conversion, but I prefer to be safe than sorry.

  • @FreeCompConsultant ok all i need to know tnx :)

  • okay so i have an 8gb stick and i used the normal format thing from windows 7. i selected ntfs and now its only 200 mb!!! what do i do? i need help!

  • Thanks very much for this informative clip. I converted and lost a lot data that was on FAT 32. Would you know if there is a way of recovering my data?

  • @shamalbaba Are you saying that you converted from FAT32 to NTSB and then some data was missing? I have never heard of that happening before, but nonetheless I do always recommend a backup first.

  • @FreeCompConsultant

Thanks v. much for your reply. I had to convert from Fat32 to NTFS because I had to copy a Windows backup file of 26GB. Now all my data is missing on the (external) drive that I converted. I was wondering if there is a way of getting my data back. Thanks.

  • @shamalbaba Is ALL the data gone? If so, did you convert or 'format'?

  • @FreeCompConsultant

I used "covert g: /fs:ntfs", and now I can not see any of the old data. I must say after conversion I copied the 26GB file to the disk. Thanks.

  • @shamalbaba You can try EASEUS Data Recovery Software, it might help you.

  • Thank you so much this tutorial actually worked, I watched other tutorials and they were so shitty w/ no commentary. Saved my ass.

  • is it possible to conver from NTFS to FAT32

  • @Nikola24able It can be done, it's not simple; Why do you want to?

  • @FreeCompConsultant well I formated my HDD to NTFS from FAT32 so I can copy HD movies and now because of that my device (I'm not sure how it's called) which allows me to watch movies, pictures and music on TV won't recognize HDD in NTFS format

  • Thanks, it worked, and you explained it well. You also answered my major question about whether converting from FAT 32 to NTFS would delete my files (it doesn't). Very nicely explained.

  • Thank you! I am trying to upgrade to Win 7 and have a huge amount of files on an external drive, but my main drive C is too tiny to take all the files. When I tried to put files over 4GB on the Fat32 external, I ran into issues. I thought I was going to have to clear a ton of stuff, but this conversion is a life-saver!

Well done, nicely explained and thanks a ton.

  • it works....thks

  • mine says cannot convert volume on this device

    help!!!

  • I have a problem with my HDD 640gb when I want to convert from FAT32 to NTFS it tells me CONVERT is not available for RAW drives...pls help! it's an external hdd

  • @mariusiacob92 Are you sure it is formatted at all?

  • @FreeCompConsultant What do u mean? I have my internal hdd NTFS and my external FAT32 just buyed

  • @mariusiacob92 If the computer says it's "raw", then it probably is NOT formatted, especially if it's a new drive. Is there something telling you it is FAT32 now?

  • @FreeCompConsultant Yes it's new...I saw at properties he's fat32.

  • Comment removed

  • How come mine says conversion from FAT32 volume to NFTS volume is not available?

  • IF i convert, will my files be deleted?

  • @DaansMontages As mentioned in the video, I have never seen data loss doing conversion. That said, I would never be comfortable doing a conversion without a backup of all important data.
