  • My laptop has a built-in wifi. How Can I get a Cantenna to work with it? I have two apartments in on opposite sides of a street(lots of steel and concrete) and want to share internet off a Greenpacket Wimax Box. Any ideas?

  • @itsrichardintt You will have to buy a usb wifi adapter with an external antenna. You can get them for around $10 online. Just unscrew the antenna and attach a cord to your cantenna.

  • awesome waveguide!

  • talking tooo low.

  • what diameter is the can? and where did you put the n-type plug?

  • @sotris99 N-parts are dirt cheap on ebay. The can is a standard juice can (in the US). It is approx 4 inches in diameter

  • @crazypcdude thanx for the reply... about the n-type plug i meant how far did you put it from the edge of the can

  • @sotris99 Oops, I see that now. It is about 1.75 inches from rear of can.

  • Thanks for the video. My own cantenna has been a lifesaver. So many job applications are online only, and job searches, etc. Many homeless aren't allowed in locations where FREE wifi is available, including PUBLIC library computer access. Lucky my laptop still works after 5+ years and a cantenna can get me long range access to the free wifi that is available to regular people.

  • This is AWESOME DUDE!!!!

  • I say one video that says the cantenna would reach up to three miles. Were you using any signal amps or boosters or was it raw signal?

  • @YouTubbingGeorge The cantenna just collects signals very effectively. There is NO WAY that a NORMAL wifi signal would have anything left at 3 miles for the cantenna to collect. For that, the originating signal would need to be high strength. It might happen if you are on top of a mountain looking into a valley, but it is not likely.

  • @crazypcdude Were you using a raw signal or boosters when you done your test? I did read where some people made a connection with no boost a few years ago on google up to a few miles. I'd have to try finding it again. But they were using two 21db directional antennas. I have two directional antennas and I never used them they are still new. I'm more interested in something as a hobby for myself and possibly my nephew to if he's interested.

  • @YouTubbingGeorge We were collecting raw signal, using a wifi card with 3db output.

  • @crazypcdude 800 ft rocks for a 3db output especially if you're not using a inline booster with it. I would have guessed it would be more like 15 or 16 dbi minimum. Have you tried hooking anything like a hawking wireless range extender to it?

  • @crazypcdude my friend lives in wales and he got a wifi signal in the village 3 miles away using a cantenna. He lives up high and it was line of sight across the valley to the village so it is possible

  • What software does the cameraman use?

  • @AlleTheMaster Inssider, it is free. see my video for what it looks like.

  • say..are you outside?

  • Crap, did I forget to mention that???
