Great job, to make a bonsai, just prune the shoots, and the roots every month. This means, once the plant is established, you can keep it in a small pot, and every month or so, cut off the top 25% of the leaves and the bottom 25% of the roots. Add fresh soil to the bottom of the pot. This will keep the plant small. There are many other things you can do, just experiment, and have fun
You said much quickly..... learn proper English its much more quickly or short term quicker. I count get 30 sec into your video due to your horrible English!
I peeled some lemon seeds yesterday, but the video ii watched, the woman then peeled them again. Taking off the browwn peel that is on the inside of the hard shell. And today... the day after, all the seeds are spliting apart. Is this normal. Im afraid that my seeds are ruined :(
@evanahickey dont worry ! that is normal. its suppose to look like its cracked in the middle. thats how the plant begins. and the root starts growing :)
so how did it go, you got to make the bonsai from the orange? i want to make the orange bonsai and the olive bonsai... if you have any tips just let me know coz i will do it soon.. thanks
A traditional banzi, of 18 inches or so, will need to be planted in a container that will hold about a half a gallon. Then you prune the tree into the shape you want as it grows.
Once a year, during the tree's normal dormant season, you take it out of the container and trim the roots back about two inches away from the edges.
The network of tiny roots do the bulk of the absorbing, and trimming the roots back once a year allows those tiny new roots to grow and keeps the tree healthy.
A bonsai, is a tree with its roots and limbs cut back. For example, you can get a small fern, and take it out of its original pot, cut the roots down, and put in into a smaller pot, like H=3in W=5in and then you cut back the branches. Just google it
Err, sorry that would be white oaks... A little sleepy. The bitter taste is tannin, a chemical used in tanning leather. Acorns MUST be processed to purge this chemical, hence the boiling.
The acorn is still used for cullinary purposes although rather sparesly. The lack of use is due to a strong bitter flavor the nuts posess. For the most part these particular nuts are considered a survival food, being abundant but usually unpallatable. By boiling them in seven changes water it makes them more pleasant to eat. The best are said to come from silver oaks as they tend to be sweeter. In the market they are most often used to make noodles to the best of my knowledge.
what temperature should i keep my seeds at, i've put some lemon seeds in sowing compost and put them in a electric/heated propagator (because i live in the isle of man, to cold) and the temperature in the propagator is 30 degrees celcius, is this ok?
there are actually 2 skin layers, so careful not to peel the 2nd layer. I soaked my tangerine seeds and then accidentally peeled the 2nd layer and the sprouting bud.
Any tree can become bonsai if grown from seed, and also you can harvest wild moss. To harvest wild moss leave pots of dirt outside, in a area that is around 90% shade, and also the soil has to stay fairly moist. Its easier over winter.
A little more than 2000 years ago, a people called the Lusitanos living in what today is Portugal (and also part of Spain) used to make bread from acorns. They called it "bread from the forest". The acorns were from the cork tree (Quercus suber).
But it mustn't have been very good because ever since the Romans invaded the place no one ever ate acorns again!
Today, free range pigs are raised mainly on acorns. They seem to like it.
well, i've done everything starting from the end, i took some seeds and planted them right away and then started looking for help : D, can i take them out to apply your method first? or is it too late, i planted them 3 days ago.. thanks in advance.
josh thanks man my mom was wondering on how to grow a orange tree faster and i was looking at some videos and i found yours and the video was really nice thanks a lot my mom loved it keep on making videos i rated it a five stars!!!=]
Thanks for the speedy reply! I have about a dozen seeds soaking in warm-ish water as I write this. Question: when I place the seeds into dirt, do I bury the seeds or place them on the surface of the dirt? If burried, how: laid flat? pointed end up or down? Thanks again!
I also plan on trying my hand at creating an orange bonsai, I hear it is not to difficult, I also have some experience with creating bonsai. So I want to try from seed, and one that will create a fruit will be really nice, a bonus is the flowers are really pretty and smell amazing too.
Thanks for the advice. I have a Bonsai orange tree and I have been wanting to grow more. What you do is grow your seedlings in their own pot dosen't matter the size just not to big for 2 to 3 years. Then repot your tree into a smaller bonsai pot trimming the roots and styling the branches to your likeling.
thank you for the help. If you want them to be come a bonsai, you are going to have to let the tree grow for a long time in a cotainer. It is better that you start with a store bought orange tree. There are some great vids on you tube on how to make a bosai.Good luck!

2) How long do you soak the seeds in the water?
Maybe you mentioned it, but if so I apologise for missing it.
Again, GREAT video! Thanks for posting it.
