what i find amazing is the chinese secret service can penetrate thick glass with a needle thrown by hand. i saw it on ripleys believe it or not. it showed the ugy had penetrated thick glass. in the properly trained hand a sowing needle can be used as a lethal weapon. many people are not aware wars can be started with very primitive weapons. for example say the uk became flooded with millions of high powered lethal potato cannons that would be enouguh to start a street war

and that is one excellent bowling ball cannon you have there, complete with carriage, elevation control and a recoil system. Definitely better then the old propane tanks that i have seen in the past

The recoil was the biggest problem. Several thousand ft-lbs of energy had to be delt with. Some engineering/math was done and then finished with some trial and error. The cannon would soon destroy itself without the recoil system. The firing is done with a large musket cap with a small black powder booster to eliminate misfires. Thanks for watching...buho

I've had a few say the ball in the video hits the ground in front of the cannon. This swirl of dust is caused by the motion of the ball passing overhead. Stop the video during the process and you can see the ball is around 4 1/2 feet off the ground at that point. I may put more videos on YouTube if there is interest. The max. range is +/- a mile. Most Bowling Ball cannons are mortars and are fun but aren't able to hit much. Direct firing is a gas. I had some early problems but found out it was ball weight. At 250 meters a few ounces makes a big different. I now weight my balls to the 1/10 oz. ...buho

How many grains of black powder are you putting in that thing?

With a 16# ball I usally use 3 to 5 oz of FG black powder. A lighter ball and going fo distance I use up to 7 oz. Do you know of any cannon shoots in Northern California? Also where was your motar shoot filmed at?

Try calling Sacrament Valley Shooting Center in Sloughouse. It's on 2000 acres. The "Clay Pits" in Oroville is nice.

The Cowboy action shooters have a 6 pounder they use from time to time. BLM land is usually cool too. By the way, what is the maximum charge and range? Looks like a squib load.

I make a powder bag from pantyhose material and tape it on the bowling ball before I slide it into the barrel. The primer cap has a small booster charge that lets me maintain a 100% firing rate. I don't use over 7 oz. for a charge and only with a lighter ball. The recoil is brutal. I have a 84" barrel and get a good burn. ...buho
