@Juliaflo do it yourself-that's the damn problem with this whole damn country-waiting on some dumbass tv show-go out and request it and dance in frnot of everybody to it!
Still reminds me of the "Vicki von Vicki" episode of WKRP.
This song is gnarly, gritty and just bad ass!
That lousy Biggie Smalls song always pissed me off and does so even more now that it's considered by the younger generation's radio marketers as a classic. When's the last time anyone heard Rise on the radio? I was probably in my parents Volare!
cuando conoci a mi esposa esta cancion recien estaba sonando en la radio por lo que los recuerdos que me trae son lo maximo gracias a you tube por hacer posible que estos recuerdosacudan a mi mente de nuevo
this is a great song. kick back and enjoy.lite some candles and relax with this song playing, when i have a bad day i put this song on and turn it up.
wow,we had this record because of the luke and laura thing. i was too young to understand it fully, but this piece of music always stuck with me. i still love it :)
How do you figure a soap opera with a staged rape scene for entertainment helped the song ?
I think the song stood fine on it's own since it was released way before movies started pumping hit tunes out to the viewers, but that's just my 2 cents for what it is worth.
I guess it's subjective. But your original statement, that the song was popular "way before there even was a Luke or Laura," is false because Luke and Laura had both been on the show for years before the song was released. Never mind that approximately 8-9 million people were watching them daily at the time.
Yeah, my relative's favorite saying to me when I complained they was watching soaps was go get your own place, then you can watch whatever you like, lol
@jaetee83 i got raped to mandy by brry manilow and not one damn person watched muchless 8-9 million not even when i gave myself an abortion behind the stairs of a gay bar
Right - "1980." I wish I could hear that one again. And, as I remember, since they didn't use it for the Olympics that year, NBC instead played it as their intro bed to their baseball broadcasts that year - including the World Series.
I wish this offering were actually true to it's title: "1980". This song is "Rise" (from the same album) but it's NOT "1980."
"1980" was a song Herb wrote for the 1980 Olympics, which were aborted (from the American perspective) by Jimmie Carter's decision to keep US OUT of the Moscow Summer games that year.
And so "1980" never received the recognition it really deserved.
I sure hope the back up musicians are getting royalties. After all Herb is great, but ah those musicians. With that oh so sweet deep funk, what would the song be without their funky input? I'm not black, but long, long, long live black people and their soulful grooves!!
Songwriters and producers are the ones that get royalties. For example bassist Louis Johnson actually came up with the bassline for bille jean yet either did not accept or was not offered royalties
I wonder if Herb gets royalties for the sample taken at 3:23? It's been used for millions of rap songs. I'm sure he's on top of it since he owns A & M Records.
sorry, but my boyfriend and I, at the time, called this the "Rape Song", because of Luke and Laura. Yikes, sorry, just brings back memories. Adore Herb Alpert. I think he had a big thing with starting the Carpenters
This morning I listened to an AT40 rebroadcast from October 20,1979--that song was the number one song that week.

Im not sure this was a digital recording back in 79. If it was then it must have been on a
3M multitrack. I know Donald Fagen;s night fly was digitally one of the earliest digital recordings.

Great observation. Rise was indeed recorded in February of 1979 on a 3M digital 32 track in studio D at A&M Records.
