I don't understand why u guys talk so much shit I bet none of u got drafted number 1 after skipping s year of high school so he could get to the bigs faster so just leave the kid alone
@swootwan As shitty as it may be, it's working for him, and that's all that matters. You want to see a shitty swing? Look at Vladimir Guerrero. He has one of the weirdest looking swings I've ever seen, but he puts up some DAMN good numbers. Swing mechanics is not everything in making a good hitter.
I'm 13 and wen ever im not playing baseball, hiting the gym,or books i'm either riding my longboard or looking up baseball mechanics its been a long time now were i see debates were you should lift up ur back foot or keep that back foot down and rotate it but i see slow mo vids of ppl like pujols, fielder, jeter, arod, and the man him self harper and they all have there backfoot off the ground and do they do it on purpose or just happens natrually nd what should i do my self?,Thanks
@jovanb101 the back foot comes off the ground because of the force from their hips. its not like they intentionally lift up their foot after the swing, itsj ust from the raw force they put out from swinging. ROTATIONAL HITTING IS BULLSHIT. hitting is and always will be a linear act.
That's not linear. You admit that the foot coming forward and off the ground is from hip rotation, guess what, hip rotation brings the hands and shoulders around, that's where the power comes from. Linear hitting is only striding and using as little hips as possible and flicking the bat at the ball. Throwing your hips first allows better bat control, bat speed, and minimizes head movement. It's like Heyward, he can't hit when he strides too far bc his head moves. Its logical
in my mind, keeping your weight on your back foot is a little league term. Because if you dont tell a kid to stay on there back foot they are probably going to lunge...
Once you get older and understand your swing, then you know that a weight shift occurs. And the foot doesnt come off the ground because off the weight shift. It shifts because the driving of the back foot.
@NicoMoran1 not it doesnt, the foot coming off the ground is from the hip rotation (the back hip rotating from 180 degrees to 90 and straightening of the front leg. When your back hip rotates forward quickly, the back foot is pulled by the hip a couple of inches and due to momentum and when the front the straightens at the same time, the back foot comes off the ground as its coming forward. Theres no “drive” off the back foot, that is ridiculous. Get ur shit together
picking ur back foot up off the ground is not necessarily the product of a great swing... but it is what a lot of great hitters do.
The back foot coming of the ground is due to the hitter driving hard with there back foot. It does have a lot to do with physics and quite frankly if you ask me... Common sense. Driving the back foot would be pointless if there was no weight shift. Every hitters weight shifts for a brief second at least in there swing at the point of contact.
That video is extremely inconclusive. You cant tell if he went oppo, popped up to third or what. Give he probably homered but in the video I told you to watch he pulls the ball and his foot is off the ground at contact. I went to the the cages yesterday and on high ball that i was beat on i had to rush my swing and i stayed back on my foot, maybe your clip is an example of bonds staying back on a ball he was late on. But if you take his truest HR swing its off the ground at contact.
@noahmcdx He's not "jumping" to the ball, simply transfering his weight to the front. watch any major leaguer hit a liner or hr and you will see that at contact, everyones back foot is completely off the ground. he's not actually jumping, thats just an effect of his incredible hip rotation. and i'm pretty sure he knows how to hit curveballs and offsepped stuff...
@seadogsrock6 So if he doesn't jump to the ball, why does he back up after every swing.
NO major leaguers back foot is ever completely off the ground. If a major league hitter's back foot comes off the ground it's a mistake. And what about hip rotation leads to jumping to the ball? Nothing.
Once again, baseball is physics. The best way to hit a baseball is to apply the most possible force to the ball from the bat. No one is ever going to maximize that, but there's a specific way to do it.
@ajs1850 Pujols' toe is still on the ground... and it slides forward slightly. But he still has a firm front leg and WAY more balance than Bryce. Bryce's foot is OFF the ground, and falls of too the side.
@hurley149100 bad article url? K, I'll check it out.
Let me start you off with this article to get you a little educated
batspeed.com/research10.html
You can't fucking argue with physics. Have any other mlb hitters you can show me that have there back foot off the ground.
If you jump to the ball your bat lags and your back elbow leads, instead of the hand being infront of the elbow and shoulder. You must stay on your back hip, which is impossible if your back foot is lifted at contact.
@noahmcdx Griffey, Chipper Jones, Barry Bonds, Josh Hamilton, Cal Ripken Jr, A-Rod, Pujols, everyone that hits with real power because they turn their hips completely before they make contact. thus their foot leaves the ground.
@hinkie07 Barry Bonds, who has one of the most mechanically sound swings of all time, does NOT lift his foot. So tell me, what in the human anatomy/physics puts turning their hips completely before contact and their foot coming off the ground together? Ofcourse they turn their hips completely before contact, nothing after contact matters, other than feel things, and results, and mechanically mandatory things that must happen AFTER contact if proper mechanics are applied BEFORE contact.
@hinkie07 There's a difference between having little weight on your back foot & having your foot off the ground. Atleast HERE & in every other video I have seen of Bryce, his foot is lifted a good 2 inches . Pause at 0:28, that is NOT proper bottom half mechanics. Apparently his swing has been calmed down. If so, GREAT. The only one of those hitters you told me about that lifts his foot off the ground, is chipper, & STILL not even half as much as bryce does.
@hinkie07 and chipper actually doesn't have a great lower half. He used to be good enough to get away with it, because not only was it not that bad, he was also just a great hitter, but now, as he gets older, I see him not rotating often, and I noticed from the left side he had trouble with outside pitches, which I related to myself before I gave up switch hitting. In a strikeout on an outside fastball, Chipper swing looked like what I felt like I did on outside pitches, not enough rotation.
@noahmcdx OK the point is that the weight during the contact phase of a power hitters swing is not on the back foot. Watch Griffey back in Seattle. And I wouldnt put too much stock in not rotating completely on outside pitches. Its kinda like flying open in pitching, you wanna rotate to the contact/release point then release the energy at that point. Like a whip.
@hinkie07 what I meant by rotating on an outside pitch is you NEED to atleast open your hips. Poor lower body makes it REALLY hard to hit outside pitches, which is why chipper struggled. You should never change your swing to a pitch, atleast very minimal. You swing earlier, or later, and if you can't hit the pitch like that it's later. That's why the best hitters just have incredible timing. Have you ever seen joe mauer hit an outside pitch down the 3rd base line? It's just beautiful.
@hinkie07 You need a base on that back foot. More weight is on their back foot than you think. You can put the top of your toe on your clete on the ground and still use it as support. But if your back foot is off the ground, there is no weight on that backfoot, quite obviously, and if you think about it, that in turn creates another force pulling you in a different direction, gravity. When your knee hinges, the foot pulls closer to your body as well, so gravity will pull you down AND back.
@noahmcdx Go watch Manny's Swing Analysis around seconds 24-27. Its a game swing and at contact his foot is sliding forward. You cant tell me his weight is on his back foot at CONTACT. Similar to a golf swing, you plant the front leg then rotate around it.
@noahmcdx Not on Earth. What you see is every hitter shifting forward to the contact point and catching their weight with their back foot when they finish their swing. Forward then backward, its almost universal amongst power hitters.
Pause the video at CONTACT POINT, of any good hitter. None of their back feet are off the ground.
If you want to see a good swing, watch barry bonds. He has one of the best swings of all time, and him taking steroids killed his rep. Watch his arm angle, and where his upper body and head are lined up with. His back foot, which is on the ground.
@noahmcdx Ive been watching barry hitting in the video entitled Bonds4c and it CLEARLY shows barrys back foot leaving the ground and landing maybe an inch or less behind where it started indicating his weight COMPLETELY left his back foot then returned on the follow through. Watch the clip. YOU ARE WRONG. WRONG. WRONG
@hinkie07 No, that does not indicate his weight is completely off his back foot. Barry's back foot moves a few inches behind him AFTER his swing. Not at contact.
You are WRONG. WRONG. WRONG.
And no, you really can't use babe ruth as an example.
@noahmcd Watch it again. His foot is off the ground at contact theres no denying it. I believe its a homerun derby swing so one can conclude its his true power swing. Granted you dont want to copy Babe Ruths swing nowadays but its an indication that having your back foot off the ground at contact is a product of a complete and powerful swing. You are a fool if you dont admit that the weight of a good hitter is on the front foot at contact, not moving forward or backward just on the front foot
@hinkie07 No, once again, his foot is not off the ground. You don't seem to recognize the difference between little weight on the back foot and back foot off the ground. Weight comes off the back leg because of the 30 ounce bat swung forward at 90 mph. It's called momentum. BRYCE'S weight comes COMPLETELY off his back foot, because he jumps to the ball.
watch?v=uXVocLLKJ9k
Tell me his back foot is off the ground one more time?
Oh and by the way, that analyzer is the best on the internet.
@noahmcdx I watched the 2008 homerun derby and you know how it shows their swings in slowmo...EVERYBODY's back foot was off the ground on contact. EVERYBODY. I am tired of this arguement. Its over. If you wanna learn some things look up chris oleary rotational hitting 101.
@hinkie07 wrong. I don't care what your eyes see. Whether they're deceiving you, or they're swinging differently in a home run derby, your still wrong. It's physics. Research says the best hitters in the game follow rotational mechanics as they are described on batspeed's website. I'm no longer going to type long paragraphs. From now on, just simple, "your wrong's". Your tired of this argument? Your the second guy thats jumped in to this. Your arguments gone half as long as the last.
@noahmcdx What makes you so qualified to know?.. I mean its not like he is the number one draft pick or anything, it's not like he didn't have some of the best coaching money can buy since he was a little kid. So i'll ask again, why are you so qualified to say he has a bad swing?
@thutch10 Because I know what rotational mechanics are and most major league hitting coaches don't. Good hitters have rotational mechanics naturally, rarely does someone learn rotational mechanics, because you don't find that kind of coaching, and if you do, it's almost never until your atleast into pro ball. It's called physics...
and no, bryce harper never had good coaching. What are you talking about?
@hurley149100 Pretend to swing a bat. Not a slow swing, a real swing. Stay on your back hip, which is proper in a swing, meaning you could draw a line from you head to knee. Now, at contact point lift your back foot off the ground. It causes bad balance & over-rotation. Now swing, but let your back elbow lead & jump to the ball, not staying on your back hip. Now lift your back foot off the ground. You can do it now, but your bat lags, & your hands are too close to your body. Which is BAD.
@noahmcdx OH really you can't? Well I wonder how he hit a 500+ foot homerun with a swing like that. And got drafted at an age that is unreal, but maybe the scouts didn't see what you saw? Cause he's still putting up numbers in the Arizona Fall League. The kid is not human.
Oh and heres another "MLB Player's swing" youtube.com/watch?v=ypr-ZPUMC4Q
@hurley149100 My point that I already stated, is that he would be better if he had a proper swing. What makes you think he would have a proper swing? His dad taught him rotational mechanics? The same mechanics some mlb hitting coaches cant even properly teach to hitters? Major league hitting coaches aren't scientists, they're hitters. The best hitters have naturally good rotational mechanics. Bryce almost does. His top half is great, his lower half blows. Bryce is just a natural hitter.
@hurley149100 My coach was filmed in the batspeed dvd, and he is on the website. John Elliot. find the other resources section, and there you have it. Quakes baseball academy. I've been working on those mechanics for about a year now. My coach also runs the Top Prospects baseball camp.
to all u people he deserves all the mkoney and shit that he is getting because he earned it but he has a bad mouth he need manners and it applys to everyone even bryce harper
he's such a kid. He needs some serious maturation before playing the bigs. I can't believe he was given so much money as a 17 year old. He's still a kid, and he's never had any real coaching in his life. His swing from the waist down is horse-shit, he's just got superior hand-eye coordination and strength. He still takes batting practice like a homerun derby. He's not working on his swing one bit. If he's not fixed, he's going to have SERIOUS trouble hitting professional pitching.
@noahmcdx hmm so you know better than every single major league scout in the entire country? Thats exactly what you are saying, the kid is a stud. Just a little jealous i think. Why do you have to hate on such a great talent.
@thutch10 i'm not hating. I can't wait to see him in the big leagues. I just wish he would use his natural ability better. Why do you think there were slight doubts whether he was even going to be the #1 pick. Did you watch the draft? Some of the predictions had him not being #1. That's because he's a kid, & there's holes in his swing & its clear. Baseball is physics, & that you can't argue. He JUMPS to the ball & that's a fact. Offspeed pitches & especially curveballs will cripple him.
@ajs1850 You know that's probably just bullshit you made up to sound like a fact to disprove my statement? Where are you finding the statistics to support that?
And even so, if that were true, hitting .400 or something in JC doesn't say anything about his average in the big leagues. Maybe he WILL be a prolific power hitter, but he's never going to hit for average in the big leagues. And all because he didn't fix his swing when he was 17,18 years old, the age most kids are still in highschool
@jill1250 get your guys' fucking facts straight. HGH is a hormone that is released during your puberty years. Taking HGH as a teenager has such little effect on a kids strength that it would hardly even make a difference. And no, I'm not saying he took HGH but its okay, because it doesn't make a difference. I'm saying your body already releases testosterone when your his age, theres no need for hgh...

@noahmcdx They have already calmed his swing down. something that is necessary if he wants to stay back on a 75 curve after a 95 fastball.

@liljeter2018 good, that is what I've wanted to hear.

@noahmcdx But I love how you just read the batspeed website just so you can sound like you know what your talking about.

@hurley149100 My coach was filmed in the batspeed dvd, and he is on the website. John Elliot. find the other resources section, and there you have it. Quakes baseball academy. I've been working on those mechanics for about a year now. My coach also runs the Top Prospects baseball camp.

to all u people he deserves all the mkoney and shit that he is getting because he earned it but he has a bad mouth he need manners and it applys to everyone even bryce harper
briantestmeanddie 1 year ago
he's such a kid. If he's not fixed, he's going to have SERIOUS trouble hitting professional pitching.
noahmcdx 1 year ago
@noahmcdx hmm so you know better than every single major league scout in the entire country? Thats exactly what you are saying, the kid is a stud. Just a little jealous i think. Why do you have to hate on such a great talent.
thutch10 1 year ago
@thutch10 i'm not hating. I can't wait to see him in the big leagues. I just wish he would use his natural ability better. Why do you think there were slight doubts whether he was even going to be the #1 pick. Did you watch the draft? Some of the predictions had him not being #1. That's because he's a kid, & there's holes in his swing & its clear. Baseball is physics, & that you can't argue. He JUMPS to the ball & that's a fact. Offspeed pitches & especially curveballs will cripple him.
noahmcdx 1 year ago
@noahmcdx you do know majority of his homers came off of offspeed pitches right?
ajs1850 1 year ago
@ajs1850 You know that's probably just bullshit you made up to sound like a fact to disprove my statement? Where are you finding the statistics to support that?
And even so, if that were true, hitting .400 or something in JC doesn't say anything about his average in the big leagues. Maybe he WILL be a prolific power hitter, but he's never going to hit for average in the big leagues. And all because he didn't fix his swing when he was 17,18 years old, the age most kids are still in highschool

legit....he took hgh
jill1250 1 year ago
@jill1250 get your guys' fucking facts straight. HGH is a hormone that is released during your puberty years. Taking HGH as a teenager has such little effect on a kids strength that it would hardly even make a difference. And no, I'm not saying he took HGH but its okay, because it doesn't make a difference. I'm saying your body already releases testosterone when your his age, theres no need for hgh...
