The Old Testament IS part of the bible and it is perhaps even worse than the New Testament, although they both appeal to genocide, racism, slavery, the death penalty, homophobia and misogyny. I see a new trend rising were religious people seem confused as to the meaning of the word religion...you see evangelicals, jehova' witnesses, kabbhalists all claim theirs is not a religion. What, you don't believe in god? You do, so it is. The dictionary agrees. Religion is the most powerful tool for war.
I'm a 14 year old kid in Belgium and I like to see myself as a Rastafari.
THe only thing that's missing are natties! I'd like some tips from true Rasta how to grow them all natural, don't want wax, I want them all natural! Is that possible (I got the patience) and how should I do it and for how long?
@SentioBonus Are you aware that rastas follow the bible, a book that says to stone homosexuals, adulterous women and misbehaving children? Your country is famous for it's tolerance, why would you willingly de-evolve like that? Bob Marley's music is fantastic, but as far as his personal views go, they were sh*t.
"Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean! " Bob Marley.
Stop acting like Rastafari expert. I don't understand us. I don't understand Reggae.
I words are in hatred. I don't even want to point I on I mistakes about us. I will never understand what is Rasta about. And if I truly understand Reggae, then I wouldn't say such nonsense.
But I forgive I and I'll pray for I to see the light and that the hatred in I heart will be gone.
@SentioBonus There is no hatred in my heart. I'm just pointing out some facts. Like the fact that "Rastafari" culture is derivative of judeo-christian traditions and therefore, of the bible itself. The fact that the bible is full of false predictions, intolerance and violence means no system that uses it can be upheld as sane or healthy. The fact that Haile Selassie I was a murderous tyrant, not some biblical prophet-god-king. Please. Educate yourself, please.
We may have adopted things of the Old Testament? So what!
When I read the Old Testament, I don't believe ALL the rules. I read it and it contributes to my opinion about the world, how it should be. And I can't say Rasta is intolerant. I can say the Old Testament is intolerant, but Rasta isn't intolerant, we are the opposite: we hope for unity and love between all men. And I can choose not to believe in Jah, fine. But don't insult him. I don't know nothing about him.
@SentioBonus It is not my desire to insult the man or anyone else. He was a great musician, that is true. But, nobody's perfect. Just because I like his music, doesn't mean that I agree with his political and religious views. The bible is false and any movement that uses it will likewise be wrong. If you look close and with an open mind, you will see that is the truth. Religion needs to disappear if what we really want is peace. Peace.
You really believe religion is the cause of war? There will be war, even if religion dissapears. The problem lies not with the everyday faithfull believers, it lies with the people desiring power at any cost, the wicked men of our society. And Rastafari don't read the Bible. We read the Old Testament. Big difference. And we aren't a religion at all, we're of life who preaches for peace, love and sister/brotherhood. And don't judge all Rasta because of Bob Marley.
@MrLegwale64 Actually a lot of his songs credited to others were written by Bob. He credited others, to prevent producer Danny Simms from gaining control over the material. But I would assume a there were a lot of contributions to his songwritings by bandmembers and brethrens. Back then they were really bright!
im pretty sure that theres a gruop of people disliking every video on youtube -if you are reading this and you are one of those is my obligation to tell you to fuk yourselfup mofo!
@TheGoldRussian crazy? No, he's alive. That's part of his message. Lively up yourself. Don't care what the world say... He was feeling his music and the infinite power of JAH. Rastafari!
As I am watching this clip, I have a tape (yes I say tape) of the album NATTY DREAD. The song Natty Dread is the second on side 2 and was written by RITA MARLEY AND ALAN COLE but NOT BOB MARLEY. Of course this song features on Bob Marley's album and this is a Bob Marley's show. Bob, like other artists, was intelligent enough to know that if he didn't acknowledge the writers, he would be breaching the intellectual property law. LET'S CREDIT OTHERS!
I am impressed by the featuring of the father of Reggae Joe Higgs (at around 0:06-0:09 of this clip on horns wearing a yellow adidas t-shirt with green stripes). It was Joe Higgs who tutored Bob, Peter and Bunny through FREE guitar and vocal lessons in the late 50s and early 60s. He also filled Bunny's position during the group's US tour promoting the 1973 Catch A Fire album when Bunny refused to tour. Bob Marley and his band were GREAT, but their success owes to this man.
Classic footage of Bob & the Wailers at the peace concert in Jamaica Bob & the band were on fire and I feel his concerts were always inhanced when the horn section where there blowing up a storm.
You said his sing and writing had become front and center, but you should know he did not write the song "NATTY DREAD", his wife Rita wrote this song. Regardless his music did evolve from the earlier years... A song was like a baby to him.... ever evolving and growing from it's beginnings... True master of course and in my eyes, a minor prophet as compared to Jesus a major prophet.... just my opinion.
Yeah classic Bob true, but it's what he said out of his own mouth and Rita too claims to have written it. You have to remember also she was more than likely heavily influenced by Bob's ways, thoughts, and actions... hence why this might sound like something only Bob would write to you. To be honest the album does not even credit Rita with the work. I know one of the Wailers even say so.. In any event, we can agree it's made better with Bob's spirit behind the mic..
i wish that guy narrating would shut up!!
