I agree up to the point of needing a teacher, to me it's simple authoritarianism.
Buddha did not achieve enlightenment through rigorous study under a teacher, he was self taught.
Einstein was thrown out of school, and never studied under authority, he too was self taught.
One can't find individuality under the bind of authority.

Everyone does not see the need for a teacher but for those who feel they need it - the guru-disciple relationship remains an integral part of Sanatana Dharma.
