I like most of your set up, but i think if someone wants to keep alot of fish tanks at least clean most of them. The water is murky and green. The murk is from too much fish waste building up and bad filters and the green is a serious case of algae bloom. Please take care of your pets.
for all those people who think clear tanks is the only answer for a come back you're sorely mistaken .....just because murkey water is there does not mean they are going to get sick and infact algae water is their normal environment in the wild so go back and read up on fish before you start making yuppy comments like a putz!
you guys sayin crap like that bout murkey water are morons fish in the wild live that type of water and algae does not hurt them at all especially the big fish...its kind like their natural breathing evironment....so for all you wanna have clear tanks comments...go back to school and rad up on fish 101.....boneheads!
@ghettolives If anyone needs to go back to school, it's you! Your writting skills (or lack there of) are crap. By the way, what the heck is "rad". I didn't know that they taught that in school.
@TrueConservative123 your so called TrueConservative ID is so not true in your attitude towards people in general, its more like you're a Liberal....oh hell why don't you just change your username to TrueLiberal!
@ghettolives Lmao My attitude torwards people? I was just calling you out on your contradictory comments towards others. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that YOU that was calling people morons, boneheads, and saying that they need to go back to school? I believe so.
@TrueConservative123 its one thing to call me out, but its another to pick on my spelling and you're a very critical person who needs to chill out "and or get a life" since you like making quotations and mocking anyone who wants to say whatever shit they feel like!
@ghettolives If that's the way you feel then you may want to consider that the next time you make rude comments to others. My remarks about you would never have been made if you hadn't put your disrespectful post up in the first place.
Actually you are right, fish do live in murky, algae water in the wild. I personally love algae in my tank but I guess I am weird that way. Just need to keep the water perimeters within healthy range. Also trueconservative123 shouldn't talk about grammar and spelling as his English skills are not as polished as he'd like to think they are.
@copperpaint Not all fish live in murky water. Many fish enjoy crystal-clear waters in rivers, lakes and the ocean. Most freshwater fish originate from waters clean enough for humans to drink.
Yes I am aware that not all fish live in murky water. It may have been true at one time that MOST freshwater fish originate from waters clean enough for humans to drink but I don't think that is true anymore. Plus I live in the land of 10s of thousands of lakes and I can say that no lake is clear every single day. They can get riled up from storms or what have you. Silt is usually on the bottom waiting to be stirred up. And algae is always near. This doesn't bother the fish
you guys are stupid saying the water is bad for the fish! what do you think fry eat and where do you think fish get most of their nutrients in the wild?
For you dumb fux making comments about the water color, crystal clear water is for your livingroom aquarium... This is a fish farm, and your local pet stores go to guys like Rick Perez to stock up!!! In other words, the fish you buy outta local petstores on display come from guys like this!!! This is where pet stores get theyre fish from,"Fish Farms"!!!
ha ha ha ha hahhhhhhhh you people commenting about the water quality are alll rednecks the "dirty water" in their habitat is mud and algae not fishpoop and nitrates i think i would have a beautiful and balanced tank rather that 60 inbalanced ones
they looked alright to me but for the record a fish will go to the clearest water they can find, even in the wild, their may be a few exceptions, which may also be some of these kinds of fish . i would be interested to know if the fish gain some essential vitamins from this peet, and is that why you use it? i have never herd of peet being used to keep fish.
peet is used to lower your ph it darkens your water because of the peet itself you can biy it at your pet store in a little box like seramic beeds,an this is not the persons tank its a video of rick perezs tank. also did u know water straight out of the amazon river that is brown is cleaner than our tap water the brown is all sediment an minerals so u are wrong fish do not go to the clearest of wter
i love his tanks and the dirty water .. its more natural looking . thats where they live .. i keep discus too and my water is very acidic and brown like that . please people if you don't like someones hard work they put into something than dont comment on it .. go to another websit or something .. i hope one day to get what this guy has . a nice big fish room . thats my dream.
Ricks fish room is awesome. I've been there a few times and was able to get some fish from him about 7 years ago. He has a huge filtration system that filters all of the tanks. I'm willing to bet he has over 6000 gallons of water in that room. His room is not meant to be a shedd aquarium. He breeds and keeps fish. The water quality and temp is always perfect. Did you know algae is a natural filter? The fish couldnt be any healthier.
Water conditions perfect. Man, doesn't look that way. Water looks very brown and typical of water whose nitrates are off of the charts. The fish appear cramped and unhealthy.
@KirkMcLoren - that makes sense since they will eat their own young if not separated or in tanks with plants be them real or fake but i know what u meant which live bearers were troubling you?
@KirkMcLoren agreed,i remember several years ago i tried breeding guppies in a clean tank and it never works, the guppies always died. one day i found the pleco died 2 hours before i went into a 2 weeks trip so i had no choice but to turn on the auto feeder and leaves. 2 weeks later i return and the tank was deep green with thick algae growing on the tank. But then i saw lots of tiny little fish near the gravel and i realizes, it works! until now i always keep my breeding tank slightly green ;)
I know Rick. Those of you who have commented on his water quality don't really know what his system is. Those tanks get about a 100% water change daily. Just because he doesn't clean the glass all that often, is no indication of water quality.
He's not an incredible fish keeper, just a guy with a fish room. There is no way that those tanks can have any type of water quality that I should be learning about. I have seen good fish keepers and you are not one of them.
You guys ever think that maybe it is the lighting and not the water quality. The fish obviously look healthy. If you ever kept Oscars you would know they get HITH rather easy from poor water. Room looks cool.
This is youtube you can clearly see a tank thats well maintained on here, regular maintainance dont make water green unless you are a bad or a novice fishkeeper in my opinion
Ever heard of algae? Quite a common thing to find in tanks...
And as they aren't display tanks, why would he be bothered about it?
You're obviously a novice fishkeeper, otherwise you'd know that fish much prefer to be in green/brown water than crystal clear water. It keeps them from getting stressed.
bad water quality.... even if they come from the amazon they dont deserve this... some of you may say that in the amazon the quality is just like these, but think first , in the amazon they r in the wild , they have a lots of places to live, but in captivity they cant choose, so try to give them some quality place to live...
this is most obviously his house and not a fish store. at the end it shows a trampoline and a backyard. fools. no one here has ever heard of rick perez? this is most definitly his personal cichlid room and he is an incredible fish keeper.
I know Rick and hes a good guy. The water quality is fine he has an auto system that pumps fresh water into his tanks daily. He just doesnt clean the algae all of the time because he has such a large system. Just because the glass is clear and the water looks good doesnt mean it is. The nitrogen cycle and dissolved metals are much more imporant than the look. Rick is the first to breed peacock bass domestically so he is doing it right.
very nice selection of fish.I wouldnt take a dump in that water. have respect for god creation take better care of them (water quality is terrible) I double the recomeded filtration on all of my tanks (I have 9- I just gave one away for a friends son) I dont care what part of the world the fish is from (I have fish from all over the world too) My water is clear and clean 1 tank has a minor red algae problem no biggie. You have a glorious collection my friend If they are too much for you downsize!
The water in the wild isn't all nice and filtered and clean, have you seen the Amazon? Theres a ton of sediment and other stuff in there and the fish love it, plus i'm sure it's just the lighting.
Hey i'm posting a vid of my tanks...if it looks like im at a sea world or the palace of fine arts in SF, dont pay attention, theyre really my tanks at home that just look like a pet store, i mean sea world, i mean my house
