Hey my good Git person! ...I just wanted to drop a comment saying I'm doing a run of LeafGreen with my starter hacked to be Chansey (and not allowing her to evolve, that is, not hacking in the NationalDex). Which is to say, a Chansey Only Run. I'm not recording it, sadly (though Misty made me wish I had!), but anyway, I do have to say that it's very interesting so far. If not a bit painful...ouch.
@BohepansTheThird Sounds interesting. I've never actually used Chansey in-game before, (I leave the stress of capturing it until post-game) so I wouldn't know what sort of strategies it could use. I'd imagine things would get easier once you get Seismic Toss, Defense Curl and can purchase the X items. I might give it a try one day.
The minute I see X items, I'm buying them. Chansey has REALLY poor offenses. (I'm just breaking level 30. Her Attack? Not even 20 yet... Special Attack is doing better, close to 40 if memory serves, but not a lot better, I'm afraid. And that's with Modest, for crying out loud. Brock was an utter bitch - Geodude's Defense Curls made Tail Whip pointless, while Onix and his stupid Bind were doing percent damage and...just...argh. Pound FTL. And Misty wasn't much better, somehow...
Sadly, Seismic Toss isn't available until post-Diglett Cave in FRLG, so as of this moment, I still can't reach it (I'm about to start the S.S. Anne). And Body Slam, which used to be on that ship, is now long, LONG past that (somewhere in post-game), so that's helpful. @_@ Though I don't actually remember if Chansey can learn that...
I feel sad that I keep having to use Mega Punch (and now Egg Bomb), heh. T_T
@BohepansTheThird It's a good thing X items are available in Rustboro's Pokemart. Otherwise, I probably would have needed to raise Zigzagoon to about level 21 before fighting Roxanne, and that would have been most upsetting. The thought of taking Brock down with a Chansey sounds like torture.
I'm certain Chansey can learn Body Slam, though I would rather use Ice Beam and Thunderbolt. Sentret and Rattata have about the same Sp.Atk as Chansey, but they still did decent damage. (Might need a fair few EVs for the stat, though) Counter could be useful as well, but relying on the AI to use physical attacks can be surprisingly annoying, as I discovered using Wynaut in a test unevolved run of Ruby.
At least Ice Beam and Thunderbolt will be right where I know they should be - I'll just have to scurry up a lot of cash to get them. (I refuse to play those damn slots, and thankfully it's not American HGSS in that one can't just buy coins. @_@ If I ever meet the guy who decided Voltorb Flip and no chance to buy Coins were both good ideas... x_X)
As for Counter, that and my Chansey is managing to outspeed things so far anyway. (Or is it a low-priority move by Gen 3? Haven't used it in ages...)
I still remember poor Brian/bpblu getting screwed over by a combination of Counter and She Who Shall Not Be Named, back in his Rental Pokemon Only series of Pokémon Stadium. Man, she's a bitch...especially to be mean to bpblu, of all people. T_T I hope she's happy in video game land, wherever in it she is. O_O Aiya. @_@
@BohepansTheThird I loved how he went completely silent for a while after it happened. Absolutely hilarious. I feel bad for laughing about it now, but it's what he wanted.
And I believe that he would...no, does, still want us to get laughs and entertainment from his work, and I still do, for certain. I ought to go back and watch those videos, actually; last thing of his I watched was his Bubble Bobble and Puyo Puyo videos.
I don't blame his stunned silence, honestly - totally unexpected. Like the other losses/matches in general to/with her that he showed. She was just...wow. And to think, I never knew as a kid...
@BohepansTheThird Actually, I just remembered that Serebii slammed Delcatty as being outclassed by EVERYTHING due to terrible stats and a terrible moveset. Not to mention, it's a Normal-type, so its STAB isn't strong against anything.
Not to sound jaded or like someone who knows nothing about the series, or like someone trying to incite trouble/flaming (just a small personal opinion, don't take it too seriously), but I feel that the folks at Serebii will slam just about anything that's not perfect. So that doesn't surprise me in the slightest.
And in the defense of Normal types, being Normal doesn't stop Snorlax and Chansey/Blissey from at least being decent if not good...
TBH I don't know much about Serebii outside of their PotW reviews. Doesn't help that I also forget about bulky Normals such as your examples... whoops.
Just a personal opinion, but, I've felt like their Pokemon of the Week reviews have been going downhill for some time now (despite that before then, I found them very respectable and helpful), so that's why I've stopped taking them very seriously on that point ^_^; But it's all down to opinion anyway, which we're all entitled to, so they can have theirs. I just prefer to hold a different one and not take theirs as the final word on a Mon's worth.
@BohepansTheThird So I'm not the only one who's gone off Serebii's POTW reviews! You only have to look at the ones made in 2007/2008 to see how much more in-depth they used to be, and I also hate how they try to inject humour into them for no reason.
But still, I don't really like all that tier crap in the first place. If used correctly, almost any Pokemon can pose a threat. Plus, with the less used Pokemon, it's easier to catch opponents off-guard.
Seriously! I believe it was Karen of the Elite Four who once said, "Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. that is only the selfish perception of people! Real trainers try to win with their favorites!" Maybe I'm just a Pokémon fanboy, but, I've always taken that to heart, heh. When Gardevoir lived in the shadow of Alakazam, I still used her. (Er, okay, not all Gardevoir are female, but that's not the poine.) When their own mascot was frowned on, I still thought highly of Celebi. Y'know? @_@
And yes, I agree about the forcibly injected humor. It just feels stupid half the time, if not flat-out ridiculous and unnecessary. Like even they don't take it seriously anymore. At least then we don't have to take them seriously anymore, either. Heh.
You know what? Fuck Tate&Liza. Fuck lucky crits. That whole thing was just bullshit. @_@ Jesus. What a show...wow that was ridiculous. That poor Zigzagoon. T_T
Because of your comment, I'm trying that now in LeafGreen. I'm just about to enter Vermillion City; I made a terrible mistake in letting Gary choose Bulbasaur (thinking easy Psychic kill), and was victimized horribly by Leech Seed. I had to reach level...27 or something to beat the guy.
Added that LeafGreen won't let Happiness evolutions occur until the NationalDex is unlocked...I have my work cut out for me. This is not easy so far. XD Yikes.
Fuck Brawly. XD

@BohepansTheThird I'm certain it is. The move has been the same since Gen II. God, I can't believe how useless it was in Gen I.

This brings up a question... Are you going to make a "Weakest Character of Gaming Ever" on Pokemon?

Like what? Magikarp, perhaps? Or Unown? (Oh gawd, Unown solo runs...why must they exist? Blows my mind, it does...)

8:03 => Yep, those double battles were confusing during the 3rd generation and missclics were very common.
10:36 => If it was me playing, I would have said some really, but really nasty things... XD
11:05 => Just... LOL (And I'm not writing this often)
Steven's Aggron is always an impressive sight. I'm sure he is the only one in the world able to make it a Special Sweeper. XD
And Cradily's bulkiness is often underestimated, at least the Big Root was not created yet.
