i have 3 30" monitors and i just bought 4 7950s and they are over killing my 3 30" monitors so i am thinking of getting 6 30" eyefinity monitors 3 on top of 3
It's all subjective really, dual monitors I think would be better if you need to work with 2 different programs simultaneously and need to go back and forth between. Rather than minimizing and maximizing windows you could use dual monitors, you could however use a 30 inch display at max resolution and set your window sizes however I find it makes workflow a bit cluttered to just use one screen for work.
I own a 30" inch makes everything much easier and faster. can never go back to a regular screen. I cant see us using 4k and higher resolution as a monitor unless maybe the side of the screen are curved. I do video editing, compose music, and also do a little bit of zbrus. 30" is the best choice for me especially because i also do my gaming and movie watching on it. Dont want to see a epic movie or game with two dark bars vertically on your display.
I don't have dark vertical bars when I watch an epic movie on my 42" HD TV. I don't game but if I did I would use my 40" TV. With my dual monitors I can have After Effects on one monitor and Premiere Pro on the other.
You migh want to check out all my videos. One video does have dual 24" LCD TVs with the 16:9 aspect ratio. I like to edit using a stand 4:3 NTSC monitor though even when editing HD. I will try to have a video explaining why soon.
Just do what you like with your setup, Personally, i think Apple Solder is a complete apple fanboy who wont see which has advantages, NOW i use Mac OS X as my Primary OS but i think that you should choose what you want.
@adobePC Windows 7 64-bit and Premiere Pro CS4 right now. Of course I can see the benefits of having dual monitors, but I fell that the only way Im going to go dual monitor setup again is if I get a HD-SDI in monitor that I can fully calibrate... otherwise I dont see the point personally. Btw when I edit I do the edits first and then show "clients" so I dont really have the same problem that you do.

I use two PC monitors and a dedicted NTSC monitor. That video was just showing that if I had to use only two computer monitors I could still replicate an NTSC preview. In the end everyone will have different needs and different work styles.
I think it is down to preference in the end and it's good to have choice, i also prefer two seperate monitors, i have two 23" Apple Cinema Displays and i do prefer it for video editing better, but for almost everything else i would perefer 1 screen.
It's actually better to have one huge monitor than two small ones. Gizmodo recently posted an article talking about a study which showed that people with 2 monitors are less efficient than people with one. And being a designer, I'd much rather have a big screen for making things than 2 monitors to worry about. Also, I'm not bashing you or anything.
I welcome your comments. A few software programs I have worked with would be more suited to one big monitor but the rest work better with dual monitors for me. I think the software has a lot to do with it more than anything else. Could you give us a short video of your software at work?
I'm too tired to do any videos at the moment, but you can see my work at leodime . deviantart . com / gallery. I put all my work there for now, until I finish designing my website and some client work I'm doing.
Nice setup and good explanation, but you won't be able to edit HD videos (i.e. with 1920x1080 resolution) and watch it in natively res on your displays.
I think a lot of people prefer dual smaller screens than one big one. I mean people that actually produce something. Its much easier keeping certain aspects of the software seperate. Doesnt matter if its coding, graphic design, audio or video.
Applesoldier stated that After Effects beats Motion. I would have to disagree. In the end it is the editors skills that matters most not the software or hardware. That is the point of my video. How you folks set up your work station is up to you. What software you opt to use is also up to you. In the end you have to please the client not yourself. Some folks use Vegas others use Avid. In the end use what works best for you and not what other people think will work best for you.
It is set to best performance as opposed to best apperance. Most pros would probably opt for best performance.
I do enable show thumbnail instead of icon only.
Vista Aero and OS X Expose mean nothing to me. I use the Adobe Bridge. I also don't care about widgets and gadgets. I just need to run my software programs..
The muliti cam in Premiere is really easy and you can mix video formats. My friend admits the Premiere is easier and the GUI is better. THe GUI is nto cluttered up at all. You have toal control of the GUI. In fact the new FCP acts very much like Premiere Pro with all the tabs. Do you see how easy it was for me to go from one GUI to the next? Did you notice I did not drop frames nor did Premiere Pro get slugish?
Pixel pitch: .255 (20) vs. .2505 (30)..even in my book Response time: 16ms vs. 12, slight advantage for the 30. Brightness: both 300 Contrast: 800:1 vs. 1000:1, advantage 30" Screen Area: 391 square inches on the 2-20 vs. 398 on the single 30. This is a huge advantage for me, before the analysis I assumed the 2-20's would be 20-30% more area than the single 30, not the case. with a 30" i can make my viewer in FCP FULL RES. Its better to have a 30 and a broadcast monitor
After Effects beats Motion, but Adobe has nothing compared to Color. And the way multi-cam works in FCP is far less troublesome than premiere. CS4 Suite falls noticeably short of what it takes to create real cinema which is why it is so rarely seen in real feature production. I find FCP easier to manage than Premiere, cleaner layout. Premiere is Good, but to say its FCP is just wrong. its way to expensive and the UI is just cluttered.
It is the fact the Premiere can use the second VGA monitor like an NTSC monitor if you only have two VGA monitors. My video was in response to some emials stating that the FCP and the Mac Pro do not need all the extra hard like I have for my system. The truth is you do need NTSC monitors and a good mixing board for professional audio and video editing. Niether you or macward have NTSC monitors hooked up to your systems so I brought my editing system down to par with yours and macward's system.
A 30" Apple screen is almost two thousands dollars and a refurnished one is like twelve hundred dollars-that's for one monitor folks. Most people are going to have that screen, but for those that make their living creating media and have the funds for it I'd say "whatever".
I am just demonstrating how Premiere can tap into the second VGA screen as if it were an NTSC monitor. It works great for realtime previews. For Premiere two monitors might be the best option. I am not sure how well FCP can make use of two monitors. My friend did not have much luck settign up FCP like Premeire.
FCP handles dual displays like a charm, Your friend must be non experienced. If you need proof how well it handles it, i can make a video. Stop spreading FUD. If he wants to set FCP up to be premiere? LOL, what an idiot. Bottom line, FCP does dual displays as well as anything else.
Please make a video response. My friend only had dual monitors hooked up for two days. He had to use his PCs computer monitor in order to do so. He uses PCs and Macs both. Please show us the titleing system in FCP why you are at it.
Keep in mind Adobe Premeire Pro can turn the second VGA monitor into an NTSC/client montior. I imagine FCP can as well although my friend coud not get it to work. Even the people at the Apple store said FCP could not do it. I can not say for use if FCP can or can not do it..
I also forgot. I use two VGA monitors and an NTSC monitor as a rule. If I did only have two VGA monitors I would have to place the second VGA monitor (real time preview monitor) about 3 feet away from me. It is to big other wise. Look at where I have the NTSC monitor in my Video Editing System video. You can have the monitor to close for comfort. Trust me on this one folks. A 50" Plasma Pro that is 15 feet away would work but my editing suite is to small for that size of monitor.
My Bryce software did not make use of dual monitors that well but I no longer use it. I admit most software will allow you to customize the GUI and Premiere really kicks as for client previews with dual monitors. Hexagon I think is one of the few programs that might be better on one big monitor but I think it all depends on the software and the user.
