It's mostly a skill problem for me, I'm sure, but I might try the duct-taped sock method to see if that helps any. Do the larger sticks also help?

in the song it's a cymbal roll, and it's hard to tell when the drummer is actually hitting the cymbals so the developers couldn't convert it into rockband notes.
