  • My economics teacher showed the class this...

  • Love this video - I've used it on my Nextstarfish blog

  • great song specially the ending!!!!

  • I LOVE THIS MUSIC!!

  • I WAS IN THIS :)

  • damn it! now I have to write a 500 word essay reflecting on the "message" of this video....fml

  • to have living standards that give us quality of life comparable to what we have today, we need very little money. think about it. 20 years ago, only the wealthiest could afford cell phones which were basic and bulky. to buy one of them today, someone on minimum wage only needs to work for one hour. the only thing that's stopping me from making the leap is caring too much about what others think of me

  • What ridiculous little puppets we are and what a sick twisted stage we dance on. How much fun we have dancing and fucking, not a care in the world. Not knowing that we are nothing. We are not what was intended.

  • reminds me of what I done last birthday

  • this song is very catchy

  • wow.... my religion teacher sent me here for this?

  • @b4ckstr33t ...My religion teacher also sent me here...

  • Screw this crap. cant get any more annoying than that

  • Notice how at the end of the video it's dark, he's alone, depressed, and has nothing left. That's how it is in the real world. You eventually run out of money to feed your addiction and lose everything, including the "friends" you tried to buy.

  • Actually, both of you are wrong. Materialism is the idealogy which says that the material world is all there is. The rampant need to buy and own useless things is based off of the idea that this world is all we have, and so therefore we should get all we can out of it. Both of you should do some philosophy research. I don't say that to be rude. : )

  • It is preachy by being confrontational

  • I was shown this a few years ago. Just watched it again. Still amazing.

  • Our culture's solution to everything: BUY MORE STUFF.

  • I wrote a paper on this subject; if anyone is interested in reading it, send me a message.

  • Anyone got lyrics for this?

  • "A LLAMA?!? WHYY?!"

    because i can.

  • this play should be called "Materialisim! The Musical". thats all this talks about. consumerism is wanting to prospire, materialsm is the need to have usless stuff

  • @theotherguy245689 Straight up this isn't a play, it's a short film, also prospire is not a word I can only assume you meant prosper. Assuming you meant prosper, you have no idea what consumerism is, your definition is wrong. This video explores consumerism. Even if you were right that it only explored materialism, materialism is a symptom of consumerism, and so you would still be wrong. Why would you comment on a topic when you clearly have no knowledge of this topic? This is very strange to me

  • And dont get me wrong,I'm not crazy consumer,I buy stuff more rarely than most,it's just stupid comparison between nice suit and tie,and people in India, that just live like shit and dont improve anything in their lifes, because being smelly and dirty is just a part of who they are.

  • @14Srb88 Being an asshole obviously is just a part of who you are.

  • If you are into consumerism commentary and sarcasm, have a look at channel "StillUsing". We're looking for other users who, instead of buying the latest technology, are happy to keep using older ones, for the lousy reason that they still work.

  • Dear Consumers,

You must not stop consuming as if there is no end to it because otherwise rich guys like me won't make more money. You must feel proud of your money and watch more TV (make sure you don't miss the ads). Oh and whatever you do don't show your concern for the environment or fair trade because then I will be making less profit. Oh and enjoy your trip to the mall.

    Some CEO

  • We're also making fun of consumerism with our "still using" channel. Pretending that using outdated technology is like drug use that needs to be cured. Because that's the message we get from ads and media. Gotta have the latest iPad, iPhone, etc.

  • Watch Syqnys' (Sickness) music video "Human Beings" It deals with this issue very nicely! Peace.

  • this is better than improv everywheres musicals :DDD... lol I now know what it feels like to rape the replay button

  • ROFL @ the comment below "vote and advocate" DOUBLE LAUGH AT YOU

  • LOL. eveeryone needs to chill out. its a musical thats obviously mocks the american life style. its something to be laughed at, not to be takin personally. If you have a problem with the way your country works. stop complaining and do something. vote, advocate, do something or just shut the fuck up!

  • hip hop music video about Consumerism. Check it out.

  • "I don't own a thing and i can buy even more"

"I am a system feeding trustworthy guy"

666 them all, no mercy on them!!!

  • hes like america personified

  • I got to meet that guy at the Dixie Film Festival in Athens. He's really cool.

  • The first minute isn't worthy of the great production that follows.

  • i made a musical called "A Consumer Carol"- check it out under the video responses! Its not bad :)

  • I HOPE YOU SUFFER SOMETHING PAINFUL. THIS IS TERRIBLE, AND IT'S A SONG NOT A MUSICAL!

  • Love love love it! im doing a consumerism unit with my students and this is an excellent intro

  • Im suprised that this video has been out for so long and has so little views.

  • 3:37 Far Left.. WTF.

  • gold plated fife? haha

  • But he could only afford a $150 suit?

  • this is amazing!

  • I was born and raised in america, I feel lost in not understanding why americans view consumption as a favorable thing. This lifestyle that is supported and to a larger extent-promoted on television, film, in society, and so on is not sustainable for the existence of man. The west introduced and exposed this kind of living to the rest of the world, it seems the values of the west is going to lead to the bankruptcy of our species.

  • Blood and guts and boobs and butts, and i just wanna make your head explode.

  • This actually makes me fucking sick. I actually want this man to die. This makes me physically sick.

  • This actually makes me fucking sick. I actually want this man to die. This makes me physically sick.

  • @Bonza937 its just a fucking musical stop being such a coon face

  • I WAS IN THIS

  • Hahaha i'm living the good life while I sit back and watch a bunch of pigs criticize me for using LSD to expand my mind....little do those fat fucks know I watch them while they get drunk and start beating the shit out of one another over who has more money! Its absolute madness! "this is madness" is what I say every time I see those big lines in front of the apple stores just so people can "keep up with the Joneses". Haha and people wonder why I always have a smile on my face. Sry you dont...

  • You can tell the redhead one the right (at the start of the dancing) has done this before or is very eager to dance =D

  • what's the name of the song and where can I get it from?

  • lol awesome.

  • This guy would make a good "Audrey II in Little Shop of Horrors" Well done.

Check out my musical, "Hydrofoil - The Musical"

  • Super Value Plus!!

  • The music is excellent and the main actor is just downright incredible. His movements really match the lyrics and he pulls off that 'trustworthy business guy' look well.

    Just great.

  • after watching this video most american pigs will call to a store and order a electronic stuff just because they feel insecure and their gov cant give them security..... stupid pigs consuming like crazy bastards

  • This video is excellent. Been watching it for a couple years now. Still as hiliarious as the first time.

  • typical american pig, showing to the planet how they eat every chinese-manufactured cellphones, mp3s, computers, tv and all the electronic trash they buy like maniacs.

dont forget ur 40 millions burgers a day, well actually 65 millions burgers a day.

    FAT american pigs, consumerism.

  • @RitvarLegend

Hey look guys! I can troll!

  • and you think im lying ? right, did you know that china send to your country everyday more than 1,000,000 of stuff from toilet paper to electronics

  • I actually agree. Get me the fuck out of here.

  • @RitvarLegend

    Congratulations, you're a bigot.

Oh, wait. I forgot. Bigotry against Americans is OK. Most of the hippies here will give you thumbs up for sticking it to "TEH EVIL AMMERIKKAZ"

  • Are there any more songs out there that have this singer? He has a very good voice.

  • dame this video is 3 years old awsome video

  • In two years, the people who believed and bought into this philosophy are going to be in the ditches, grubbing for food.

It can't last; and it's ending already. I really am going to enjoy seeing these scum bags hit the dirt.

  • @WoWzersworld Many of them allready are.

    The paradigm has shifted. ~cg

  • the story of my life. i buy a samurai sword but i forgot to pay bills

  • brilliant!

  • this should have way more views then it does now.

  • Damn. Now I want Starbucks.

  • clever send up of society's consumerist values. The hilarity of the lyrics coupled with the ridiculous scenes help to convey the point: we have become completely dictated by the consumer culture.

But what does it matter? We're all going to "buy, buy, buy" anyway.

    nice job.

  • @BOMBINGsmileyTART

Well what SHOULD we be doing? Anti-consumerists never answer that.

If people want to buy things, they should, within reason. If anybody's worried about over-consumption and how it could affect the economy, that's valid. But these people with their mantras of "You don't need posessions maaaaan!!" are, in my book, no better than someone who tries to force their religion on someone.

  • @CaptainKrauser Here's a thought. I grow my own food during winter and summer (jarring and grow root veggies for cold months). I got rid of my TV. I buy second-hand. I buy local. I recycle or compost almost everything (meat and animal byproducts are fed to my dogs, those you cannot compost). If you have to have any bank accounts, go for a credit union. Many and most of them put money back into the local district they are in. I don't have the answers but starting that stuff helps out. Be safe.

  • @CaptainKrauser Also, if you like fresh products (like eggs), getting chickens are easy and sustainable. Let them roam around and they poop in your farm area to help fertilize and give the soil nutrients. I have 4 of them, they're manageable and self-reliant animals. Investigate corporate-ownership lineages and stop buying from big corporate providers! It may be a little research, but you just have to if you want a fighting chance for your health and your family's health! Hope that all helps!

  • I honestly don't know what to say. Bottom line though, is that we buy what we want. It's human nature. If we can afford to be excessive, so be it. If we can't, then we have to find a way to live in moderation.

Rich people and big corporations and government and advertising and social pressure are not the reasons why we decide to buy things. It comes down to US. WE decide what we buy, not anyone else.

  • Human nature? I'm sure that neanderthals were thinking "Damn... if I could only exchange some sort of currency for Trog's sharp stick!"

While it's true that the self is a factor in deciding to buy things, no one is saying that corporations and advertisements are holding a gun to your head and forcing you to buy - they make conspicuous consumption look attractive and necessary, when it's mostly really just accoutrement and fluff.

  • That's not true. While we are a large factor, we are ALWAYS bombarded with advertising and clever marketing manipulating sex appeal and psychological weaknesses like the male urge to say, have the biggest dick.

  • Brilliant.

  • I notice that the stupid American consumer pulls a scam on the poor banker who can only afford a construction paper mustache.

Wait a minute, something is wrong with this picture.

  • this video is just brilliant lol

  • If buying stuff makes people happy, I don't see the problem. If they all of a sudden have no money, then they can only blame themselves for not being in control.

  • No one ever sees it as their fault.

  • Well then they should see things as it is instead of looking for a scapegoat.

  • First off, corporations are always bombarding us with sex appeal advertising. We can blame them to a large degree. Second, the problem is when we've forgotten our connection to nature and our place on Earth and succumbed to a sort of cocooning instinct, where we hole up with our IKEA couches and handmade dishware from the native peoples of Wherever, sacrificing our identity for our property and our self for our wealth.

  • ha ha, Downloadable for a small amount on an Ipod.. QUICK buy them both!!

  • I walk to school every friggin day, and I always see those feminine kids on segways. It always screams haha I am too rich to walk I am better than you!!! I'd get a big stick with thorns on it

  • when I see people driving segways on the sidewalk I want to smack with a big stick, and hope they eat shit hard, becaused they are lazy and obnoxious. But it's not worth going to jail.

  • Stupid globalization. Meanwhile those ladies in india are worrying about earning 7 cents an hour, just so guys like this can have some meaningless luxury.

  • yeah.. but, it's all very racional... that is the magic of economy and monetary system, and it seems like everybody belive that it actually works... but it don't.. and never will...

people are problem.. and their materialistic way of thinking.. the television and marketing are source of problem, and consumerism and capitalism is an effect of that problem...

so i'm very glad to see that some people are actually aware of the problem

  • @oscaringolilingo Ladies in India are fine with living like shit,we are not,we whites wanted more comfy life,so we made what you say is "meaningless luxury",that you,I can bet my head on that, also enjoy.

  • @14Srb88 I think by "meaningless luxury" he means iPhones and stuff, not flowing water. If you can't live without this kind of stuff, I'm sorry for you.

  • veryyy well done. too true.

  • His name is Robert Paulson . His name is Robert Paulson . His name is Robert Paulson . His name is Robert Paulson . His name is Robert Paulson . His name is Robert Paulson . • i love it

  • this was really well done 5

  • Could someone send me the lyrics of the movie? I'm not getting some of the things he says...

  • I think the amount of views really increased after this was on indmogul....

  • this culture is NON SUSTAINABLE, its based on debt that can never be payed back, eventually the economy is going to collapse and kill all the idiots that supported this lifestyle and sadly the honorable people will go with them too. when the interest rate on the national debt cant be repayed and china stops accepting worthless dollars, all hell will break loose. 2-3 years

  • Unfortunately it often takes a major kick in the ass to wake people up and make them make a change its going to hurt but its how we learn as much as i hate to say it

  • you're absolutely right. but the people at the top have known about this for a long time. the U.S. has been run by men who have sought after a global empire for a very long time. they get other countries in debt by giving them massive loans through the World Bank for huge development projects and they get them in their grasp. once the U.S. really starts to collapse which will probably be after the next false flag attack the central bankers will implement the NWO. problem, reaction, solution

  • Holy shit, THAT'S what the NWO is about? I always thought it was some radical conspiracy theory, but... but it's completely valid and happening.

  • @Re3volution so um... two years have past. should i commit suicide now to avoid the approaching chaos?

  • @21centuryg erm... isn't the financial crisis a couple of years ago serious chaos for you?

  • @QuantumExia96 well, yeah. but i was only in high school then. now i'm in the real world! help! i can't even find a freaking job, i've applied to over 100

  • @21centuryg Apply more jobs? haha sorry not really much of a help =) i'm still a student.... and i'm starting to feel how privileged i'm =D?

  • I swear I think I saw the star as a minor role in a teenick show...

  • Lol, wow haven't we come along away, The Western world possiblly the most self loving, self obssesed, money obssesed, materialistic vain, people the world has ever seen, and im proud to say im one of them! My mum is always getting up me about how society is gowing down the drain etc. she saw the POkerface video nearly had a heart attack

  • Anyone else think the guy behind the counter looks like a young Obama?

Speaking of a frugal (Yes, I'm talking about people paring down costs for the most wonderful time of the year!) Christmas (or holiday for those who do not revel in it) season, which is around the corner, this vid makes me want to go to Gaylord Palms to see a stage show in the atrium (It's FREE!) later near or on December!!!

  • All in all, wow.

Ok, 3:28 to 3:40. It's just jaw dropping.

I could loop this bridge all day.

Sir, I have one more reason to live.

To be a cataliser of the mind, like you are.

Although, next time you can remove some of the "too easy" jokes (you know which ones I'm talking about). Yes you do. (Y)

Congrats to the music composer, then the dancers, then all.

    So, whats the next step?

  • Hey, find a way to put you song up for download, like iTunes, and you'll see what happens. Chi-ching!
