I first heard this song on a school bus in... 1986... I think it was - on an excursion. I'd fallen for a girl called Peta, and at the time this song immediately encapsulated my feelings for her. Seems a bit over the top now given that I was only a teenager and love has since become so much more complex (and rare). But at the time it seemed so serious, and real. Thanks for the memories... Cheers.
Yes, there is a certain, undeniable Beauty & Magic to this song that is just timeless, & evocative! For it definitely awakens many Great & Wonderful memories, feelings & sensations that just come flooding right back in this very soothing, feel good manner, as I feel overwhelmed with these vibrant, irresistible euphoric highs! Man I feel Great, pure & enraptured! Any ways, isn't Ric quite the ferocious swordsman!
This Beautiful Song is from Ric's 1986 This Side of Paradise Album. I Remember that Roland Orzabal from Tears for Fears Played Guitar on this. Many Thanks for Posting.
it's almost like songs like this shouldn't be heard today, because they're so pure and 80ish like, today's 'people' just can't relate at all to them, after the 80s, everything went to shit, there still was in the 90s and still is today good things 'creeping up' outta nowhere, but by and large its piles of s h i t, let me laugh some real hard at american idol, hahaha, today's world can't even 'touch' the 80s music and movies, and 70s etc. on back, today all they do is try to reinvent the wheel
I get it. I'm dealing with children now. I won't say that this new music is crap (I am not my father). I like a lot of the new stuff but the 80's had a certain edgy quality. I hope to see it again. Not a chance though. Music evolves we must as well.
Da video is perfectly made kitsch.Archaic symbols and pictures out of da dark times o mankind. Da video and da plot da song itself initiates in da mind is da same kind o stuff..
initially ocasek's voice grated on me (compared to some of the other legendary singers during the late 70's/early 80's like sting, steve perry, lou gramm) but i've since learned to appreciate it....nice song
when i was in 6th grade, sick in bed with dad taking care of me, he stepped out to do a couple of errands and brought back this single - a 45. not the sort of thing he usually did, it was so sweet!
Vancouver, BC area is so nice! I'm a Leafs fan but admit that i loved residing (Oregon/Washington) up in Canuck country. I miss it there so much. The NW is the most beautiful part of North America, and thats with a lot of competition from many other nice areas. As for this beautiful song, it just goes to prove how equally talented and such a good fit all of The Cars were for each other. Their talent and resumes speak for themselves. Kudos!
Que emoção enorme falar do Rick(The Cars) adoro esse cara é único roqueiro, romÂntico maravilhoso pai e marido 1000. FOREVER,o nome da músicajá diz tudo.
Being a native of Massachusetts -- born and raised just a few towns north of where David Robinson is from ( Woburn; where I worked for 7 years until 2008), I'm so proud to call The Cars "one of our own". I loved them the day they pulled up, and treasure them now like a fine classic! The Cars are different a genre than Aerosmith and Boston, also "townies", but The Cars, without a doubt, are the same echelon, and are just as loved here at home and all over!
Happy Holidays Ric! Hope you had a very nice holiday season thus far and hope it continues throughout the new year to come... You're a true sweetie and i never get tired of hearing your wonderful voice, especially in this lovely tune. You and the your Cars bandmates helped to bring me the most amazing childhood memories through your music. That was a while back LoL and today is a new day, but the memories persist so eloquently and elegantly. Thank you so much. Cheers dear friend! xoxo EjGerbino.
Mr. Gerbino, Ric Ocasek sends his best! He was so moved, & so deeply touched by your heartfelt words, amazing eloquence & by your unrivalled capacity to inspire & to convey your deepest emotions! It was quite the tear-jerker!!! For after reading those lovely & poignant comments that you just wrote Ric was overcome with so much joy & elation that he started to cry, as he went through three boxes of tissues! Can you imagine that? Mr. Gerbino, you're Emotion in motion! Ric just adores YOU!!!
Comox? as in Cam Neely's hometown? See the Boston connection-his first season in Beantown coincides with this song dropping (86-87)...just found that cool that's all!
BTW Vancouver Island is beautiful...would love to go back sometime!
Yes, it is beautiful here. Nice to hear this song again.
Wrong about Neely (why, oh God, did the Canucks trade him?) He's a Maple Ridge boy like baseball's Larry Walker and racing's late Greg Moore. Sporty little town just outside Vancouver.
Comox is where Pam Anderson grew up (and I use the term loosely).
I'm just north in the birthplace of Barry Pepper, Campbell River, and I'm not anybody special. You're welcome to visit, I'll take you salmon fishing.
Ooops. You're right. Neely was born in Comox. On a different note, I was sad to see Benjamin Orr, who sang lead in Drive and Let's Go with The Cars had died almost ten years ago.
Of course the video is ridiculous---after all it WAS the 80's. I heard this song on Confessions of a Shopaholic and couldnt place it. I knew I heard it and loved it....but what was it called!?!?! Augh! The Cars are awesome. <3
I was 15 when the song first came out. I didn't think it was that nice, but listening to it first time in a couple of decades, I kind of discover the beauty of it.... It brings back to me a lot of old feelings and sensations I had back then. Beautiful song!

gorgeous bridge solo (orzabel?) and as flat out lovely a melody as anything he wrote for the cars -- and that's saying a TON... if pop can ever be beautiful, this is it... thanks for posting
Really cool background for this song.

color magic and emotion and cadence...This was the 80s!
The media doesn't want the public to have these anymore. Just drab, soulless, monotone crap. Easier way for them to control the population.
Bring the 80s music back! Bring back the 60s music! Bring back the soul and inner life!

He also did the lead vocals on Just What I Needed, too...good bass player to boot! I think it was around September 2000-cancer got him.

No! Ric is still **very much ALIVE**. That was Ben Orr that died of pancreatic cancer; the *other* singer in the Cars.
