Due to jokers disorder, a type of AsPD, it's very difficult for him to love or accept it. It's hard for people without it to understand that someone with it may not feel certain emotions like guilt, fear, love, etc.. He may feel close to love but not love. She is useful to him, she cooks cleans and is an outlet for his anger and other urges. And she is willing to be all his. That's why he keeps her around and that may be his version of love. He's a psycopath. He's different than most people.

Tbh I think they are cute when they want to be! Joker does kiss her at a point. I love how Harley gives back what she gets at points. I mean, she tries to shoot him then finds out it is a toy gun. He instantly is impressed and spins her around, that scene is acually adorable! ^_^

I'm noticing:

1. Original style (when he is a judge)

2. Simplified style (when Harley is in the custard pie)

3. Super-simplified JLA style (when Joker and Harley are hugging in front of the balloons)

4. "Harley&Ivy" style: Joker's masculinity is exagerated as Harley compares him to Ivy (one episode)

I loved the video! I however, do not find this couple to be "cute". I find this couple to be a little sad and depressing really. Poor Harley is always trying to receive love and affection from the Joker, which he gives only to manipulate her. I don't believe that there could ever be love between these two because I don't think the Joker knows what love is.

@ruenesca If you take in to account the comic books, their relationship develops, it is only early on in their relationship Harleen is a submissive character who just takes it, later on she learns from the Joker, and becomes a villain in her own right and leaves him, just to have the Joker suddenly realise she isn't around any-more. When she does let him back in her life, the table is turned, and she hit back. Which the Joker prefers, methink.

They twisted the characters a bit...while I agree that Joker does love Harley on a level that's not always shown...well, New Animated Series sucks haha check on the original animated series you can still find those subtle moments that communicate his love for her. Also, comics. The comics are the bible. They hold the truth for the characters.

But I prefer the Animated Series ;)

She chose to leave that once and Joker came back for her because he knows that he needs here. And I believe that he does know what love is, but he's scared to love her because of his past. As well, if you look at the Creeper episodes, Joker is constantly pulling Harley away from Jack Ryder, because she's his. Possession, obsession, its twisted, it's unhealthy, it's Mad Love.

If I remember right, in the comics he tells Harley that he does care about her...before launching her out of a rocket since he thinks those feelings get in the way. But as Dini put it: "Somewhere deep down in whatever shrivelled nut of a heart he has, there might be a little bit of affection for her." After all, he still keeps her alive so there must be something there.

Creators themselves stated that love it mutual, but Joker's ability to show same care and affection is more limited since his instability and general homicidal nature. Just read "My Boyfriend's Back" and see what he becomes when he is stripped of his killer's instincts. So no, there is love between them, it's not all about manipulation. And it's not all that tragic.
