Difference btwn invaders and defenders -- the former is there for a prize (money, glory, great name etc), later is there for survival (lose means death). Huge difference in attitudes.

@CaptainGrimes1 Strategy maybe very important, but the most important is how many support you can get. Small countries cannot fight a war against super-powers without support from other super-powers. Vietnam has Soviet Union and China behind their back. When Soviet Union in Afghanistan, the whole west was supporting the resistance force. American win in Afghanistan simply because Taliban has no support. Same in Iraq.

@DarkFenix34512 The problem with conscripts during this time period is that they're unwilling to fight. Thanks to Robert A. Heinlein's novel, Starship Troopers, conscription became a thing of the past and most armies today us a form of "natural selection" and volunteers.

Soldiers don't just need training and skill, but dedication, motivation, morel, and iron wills to serve the nation and armed forces through volunteer. Also people who have physical and mental disabilities must be put into consideration. On the other hand, there was once a battle were 900 Filipino soldiers fought and defeated a Chinese army of 40,000 men, via inflicting 12,000 casualties through a holding action in Korea, 1951

@CosmoShidan its better to use as many as avalible ,sustained,trained ,well fed,well armed ,well planed,well backed force than to have none,but its ones birth duty to fight for his mother land when its attacked by an invader..with what ever avalible or die trying...in 1971 300 indian infentry engaged 3000 pakis with tank colouns ,pakis were defeated ,in that 300 paki ssg invaded india ,,and were compromised to civilans villagers ,only a hand full made it back alive to pakistan next day ......

@pakifucker999999999 Another reason, why in the west, there is no more conscription, is because conscription is considered slavery since putting young people into a position against their will, away from their homes, their families, and friends, and to die in some foreign place; moreover, it's better to have the strongest join through a volunteer force that involves one year of training, and a 95% drop out rate. Such is practiced in the Filipino army.

@pakifucker999999999 Evan Canada practices volunteering. A good army is not strong in it's numbers, but the coordination of the commanding officers and troops. Plus it's best to try to finish a war with the least amount of resources and men as possible as Sun Tzu says. If too many soldiers were in an army against their will, and dropped like files, then there would be a decrease in morel. Also there are the families of the draftees to consider who will grieve.
