About the pellets: they're sawdust pellet fuel with added limestone and gypsum in the bag. Nothing magic, but we test different sources of these pellets to find ones that work well, and make sure they're dry and clean. Some have the wrong kind of woods in them, and some get exposed to moisture and grow molds, which can defeat our chosen fungus. We dry and store it carefully. You can prepare your own substrate for less money once you know how this all works.

I've got that stuff on my Amazon Wish List. I can't grow tomatoes on my porch because I get too little sunlight, but I use so many mushrooms in cooking, I've considered this an option for saving money.
