  • i collect TV sets like these as well, i love old analog sets, i really want one

  • That's one very nice television! It's to bad that analog TV is out now, I'm glad that there are digital TV receivers!

  • dvb-t sucks.

  • I bought a set very similar to that...a 1973 hand-wired 16" Zenith TV...it finally gave up the ghost in 1993...and had the original picture tube. That sucker weighed a ton to be as small as it is...but that was when the TV went "out" you had it fixed instead to tossing it.

  • Europeans called NTSC "Never The Same Colour"

  • THIS SET REMINDS MY THE 1969 SET MY LATE MOTHER BOUGHT IT. CAN I BUY THIS FROM U?

  • Here in the UK NTSC was known as "Never Twice Same Colour." This will be the reason we adopted the PAL system for the strart of colour here in 1967. I remember watching Rowan and Martins Laugh In, and how garish the colour was on our TVs

  • I live on the central Oregon coast, and atop Mt. Hebo sits one of the last operational NTSC transmitters in the U.S. I have heard that it will probably stay!

  • HEY! I live in Kalamazoo, Michigan & have some sets I would like to sell you, if ur interested! I have a LOT of parts & remotes for the old Zeniths, too! Contact me if ur interested!

  • GORGEOUS set! I have NOS knobs for these! I also have LOTS of other NEW parts for Zenith & RCA if u need anything! I sure miss analog! This modern digital junk makes me sick! Either you HAVE a pix or u DON'T! & MOST of the time...you DON'T! Just LISTEN to the BASS coming from that little 3x5 inch spkr! NOT like modern GARBAGE flat screen with 1 inch headphone speakers! I HATE modern JAP CRAP!! US made sets were MUCH better quality! Too bad there are NO more! ;( GREAT collection, Man! BRAVO!!

  • YES!!! PBS DIED IN IL!!!!!

  • press 5 repeatly

  • @kyleis52 WHYYY??? have nothing BETTER to do?? LOL!

  • NY NOTHER HAD A 1969 LIKE THIS. I WISH U CAN SELL IT. IT WOULD MEAN ALOT TO ME

  • That is the first color set we had. We were late going to color because we always owned Zenith sets and my father would not buy a new TV until the old one died!

  • So what system is being used in the US today PAL?

  • @ludvan64 OMFG A NOOOOOOOOOB

  • @ludvan64 ATSC...digital JUNK!!

  • That's crazy, we never had that many over the air channels.

  • Hey you think you could help me find the model of TV my grandfather owned? Its quite similar to that one there but i know its younger than the 70s. It had more plain dials and didn't have the pull down panel in the bottom I don't think.

  • Where can i put the HDMI cable? xDDD

    Just kidding, nice TV

  • NeverTheSameColour

  • How did you get your converter box to output onto channel 18?

  • is that a newcomb record player in the background?

  • where to buy?

    HDMI available?

  • That's my kind of tv

  • I have often heard they are hard sets to work on, but I have always wanted to find another one like my folks had when I was growing up. It was a 1976 Quasar with the TS-958 chassis. It was the first year Quasar was produced by Mashusita Electronics rather than Motorola. I had our old set until 2001 when the CRT finally died and like an idiot I the set out. Where I live in Kentucky we still have analog cable and where I only use basic cable, I could still get use out of an older set using Ch 2-13

  • Awesome old TVs.Glad someone else likes these old TVs.Over here,in the UK,we expect to go digital in 2011 l think.l've no idea why,as the analogue system works well. However they've turned the signal strength down in recent years,to make the digital look better. But the "freeview" box l have keeps dropping out,and the TV screen then says no signal!

l have an old late 60s Sony that has a hue and AFC control, both rare over here.

Thanks for the NTSC demo!Seems odd VHF TV signals.

  • i like digital, but i wish i could have the analog back for its unmatched reliability. tons of older tv's around and still work perfectly fine. i have a 1985 RCA 13 inch portable that needs tuner work and i have a RCA 27 inch console tv that works perfectly. i love them both. truely awesome tv's

  • Depending where you are located, there still may be a couple analog low power TV stations. In my area in case you haven't seen my videos; I have WYFX channel 62 from Youngstown and a translator station from Canton; both Ohio; on channel 52.

  • i still see a few pop up on my fiances parents Vizio tv, signal sucks on those channels, but not much better can be said about the digital. have to reprogram the damn tv just to get the channels after rotating the antenna.

  • Channel 38 is WCPX ION. You can find all the channel listings on the Wikpedia Encyclopedia website, and search under broadcast stations. They are now listed in digital format only, but there may be still some low power TV stations on analog.

  • Nice vintage TV!

Cool thing is WWME-CA (channel 23) is still broadcasting NTSC analog right now, as a service to those who don't have a DTV or converter (they are broadcasting WGN news at 9 and NBC 5 news at 10 and news at some other times, as well as sister station WCIU "the U" 26 programming). I'm guessing its transmission power of Ch 23 falls just below the requirements for full-power analog cutoff.

  • How did you get Chicago channel, don't you live in Texas?

  • Nope, I've lived in Chicago area all my life

  • You're probably thinking of "retrochad", he makes very similar videos to me and he's in Texas.

  • Tv went from tube type in the early 70's to modular solid state by 74 to electronic tuning and high scale intergration and micro proc. sets by 1979. More advances where made in electronis in the 70's then any other time

  • At 9'36, that white dot fading out in the middle of the screen after shut off brings me back to my childhood!!

Also, turning the ring around the channel switcher to adjust the picture is something I haven't done in ages!

  • also we use PAL

  • here in Australia we'll start shutting off analog later this year and my hometown's gonna be the first.

  • LP stations are staying for now if you happen to have any in your market.

  • Oh gosh I remember TV's like this VHF, UHF, tube, wait for them to warm up. Before cable TV, in a large city you were lucky to get 4 or 6 channels, typically ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS, plus one or two independents. This was also WAY before Fox, CW (UPN, Warner Bro), religious and Spanish channels. With digital I can get about 20 channels over air, but I have digital cable (+300 channels).

I am surprised you where able to video tape CRT TV so well with frame speed.

  • We still have NTSC to november in kentucky.

  • Did you guys have two PBS stations? I thought 11 WTTW was the primary PBS. At least it was when I lived there in the '70's.

  • Correct, channel 20 and channel 11 were both PBS.

  • There will be a lot of egg on people's faces when the official switchover takes place. It'll take about a year before everything gets back to "normal"...at LEAST a year.

  • aw, your just mad because you dont have a HDTV yet

  • Damn! Can't watch Bozo and Empire Carpet commercials no more. I lived in New Orleans but I could get WGN via cable.

  • Are there any LPTV, Class A or translator stations in the area? Those will still be analog after the cutoff (far as I know).

  • no cutoff for LPTV, Class A, or translator stations.

  • that is really sad , to think that is the last time EVER that set will ever pick up a broadcast on it's own, it is like a part of our life is dead and gone, I hope this damn digital shit bites them in the ass, LONG LIVE ANALOG !!

  • I agree. The digital transition is all about the FCC making a buck as they sell off the analog TV frequency spectrum.

  • Almost agreed with you, but I prefer equally for the deaf and hard-of-hearing who use

closed-captioning would regardless on the digital if signal reception is weak, but analog have problem with CC, yet sometimes HD have bad captioning than SD digital.

I love analog for premium channels using with cable converter box, cable and satellite. Digital stinks.

  • You have great reception! What do you use for an antenna? I only get about 10 channels in my area.

Hard to believe that in a couple days, it's the end of an era that was such a big part of our lives over the decades. Hopefully there will be plenty of digital channels (and decent converters) available at least.

  • Nice set. Were there many 18-inch sets sold? This it the first time I've heard of one.

  • I've got three different 18" models. They were introduced in '69 as the "decorator series" of cabinets and last offered in '72 like this one. Most all looked similar, with different cabinet and accent color schemes. They're great sets, very heavy and rock solid as you'd probably expect.

  • You have an awesome selection of over the air channels. Do you have a digital converter box ? I'm thinking if i lived in your area, I would be perfectly happy with antenna TV. No cable or satellite.

  • terrific - I hope you record some of the stations as they shut down their NTSC analog broadcasts
